So does anyone know how much a residential rooftop solar panel system should cost? Say, for a 5000kw array

DIY or Installed?

Installed yo

$25,000

Stupid question since you didn't specify location or type of property.

Really? I just got a quote for 18k. Guess that's a good deal.

It’ll turn into $25,00.

A house? In the midwest?

What do you mean? They'll jack it up? Tack on extras?

Basically.
That or they’re using low end hardware.

Jinko panels?

Pretty basic shit.
Okay, but not great.

They have a 25 year warranty tho (the installers)

Double check that. To my knowledge they don’t offer a 25 year warranty.
I may be wrong.
What batteries?

I know, it's not Jinko, it's the company that's installing them.
It's a grid tie, I don't think there are batteries, just an inverter.

That’s why it’s less than $25,000 then.
Jinkononly does 10 year warranty.
I’d upgrade panels a step. Labor should be under $5,000 for sure.

So how can they claim 25 years? Won't they have to replace them twice by then? Will they try to weasel out of it or something?

The panels won’t necessarily fail after 10 years.
The company may honor the warranty, but these are small businesses.
They retire/go out of business.
Seriously, a 25 year warranty from a contractor is not something I would count on.
At least if the panels have a 25 year warranty, anyone can replace it.

best guesstimate over $100 million.

5,000 kw = 5 Megawatts. That's a huge amount of solar panels.

this

Also note that solar panels do have a shelf life of 10 years. After that, the power generation declines in a bell curve.
