That is my protagonist
Skyler has a strong sense of justice. Due to the circumstances of her birth she is forced to be a killer. The moral dilemma is that she cannot accept herself because she believes she is a monster who deserves punishment.
This moral dilemma becomes completely debilitating after a grave tragedy befalls herself and those she loves. The pain she feels from the self guilt is unbearable, so she adopts the philosophy and convictions of a mentor character. Said character teaches her to hold a sense of responsibility for her friends and family, that she embraces wholeheartedly.
This change allows her to developed as a character and find a means of redeeming herself, but her sense of justice is not gone it is just repressed. It begins to manifest as a subcontius daemon of vengeance.
This demonic IDD is expressed within the animalistic part of her that will come to the forefront when under grave threat, or anger. It seeks to enact vengeance against the world for stealing her innocence and seeks to punish others for their sins.
This IDD seeks to punish skyler as well and will destroy whatever it can to make her suffer, including innocent people, as well as her friends, family, and brothers in arms.

She isn't psycho, but she can be driven to madness due to her moral conflict with herself. Most of her character development is overcoming this by doing what she can to do good in the cruel world she finds herself in, attempting to find redemption.

Heh don't worry plenty of other characters to appeal to you, but I needed the dark tone to have a purpose in the narrative, and establishing character vulnerability is the primary reason.
I love ultra violence too though that is why Skyler's uncontrollable IDD is there, to allow a morally riotous character have a breaking point.

I sort of took the premise of Tokyo Ghoul( which I genuinely dislike as a show it just has an interesting premise) and ran with it.
The premise of the narrative is what would happen if some people were literal predators to the rest of humanity. To exist as one of these creatures would be reprehensible morally, because they live at the direct expense of other people. Their lives are paid for with lives.
This presents very few ways of justifying ones existence. Either embrace their nature as monsters and live for the sake of living, fabricating entirely new moral codes, or finding some means of redeeming oneself. Skyler grapples with all three of these, and other characters will as well to one degree or another.
I understand this premise has been done before, but I feel like many of the examples I have read/watched didn't explore the moral question nearly enough.
I made them entire setting with this in mind.

No I was just saying 'Skyler' sounds like simple therapy could do a lot for them, which is normally what makes psycho-play characters unrealistic, since a big share of their plot tends to be the product of a simple to fix issue, but on second thought, the concept of therapy clashes wildly with your setting as presented, anyways, so I guess that hole is filled.
True that, most of the stuff I make gets zero attention from me after it's done anyways, so I try to focus on the process.

Honestly, just start illustrating, it's far easier and more fun to improve if you contribute to a long term goal with it, and far more fun to look at bad, old drawings if they're within a story context.
After you've grown a lot and done a good chunk of illustrations, you can just go back to old parts of your story and redo them. It's no big deal.
Every pain is a gain, no effort is wasted, and you can't start too soon.

I think what you mean when you say "hold ourselves back" is just that, there's no central personality to anyone. Who you are changes a lot, as you examplified, when you talk to different people, or when you're in different places or at different times.
What you're feeling for Tsugu may, as barbaric as it sounds, be the fact that you don't register things that are beyond your interaction with Tsugu, that you feel she is holding nothing back because you blend out what she possibly could.
Which is easier with any personality conveyed only through media and prepared acts, as opposed to in-person.
I don't think other people are fake for unwillingly adapting to who they talk to, hell if I even know who "myself" is, depending on certain mental triggers I can act completely different even on my own.
It's not like how we talk to people as opposed to when we're alone or with someone special to us isn't part of our identity. You're not one of your personalities, you're all of them.
About the community, it's probably a problem most if not all anons ITT have, but Tsugu could definetly not exist if it weren't for loving, wholesome supporters of her like you are one.
Just like any person, Tsugu's identity is shaped by her environments, and part of that environment is you.
