They went the “Aliens” route with the sequel to this lol. Most out of nowhere change in direction for a sequel I can think of since Evil Dead II.......and it was awesome.
REC and REC2 are two of my favorite horror films.

The possessed thing at the end was pretty creepy but the language the movie was really grating to listen to.

I find "realistic" atmospheres to get to get to me more than horror movies. So if youre into that id recommend Contagion or Chernobyl (series).

Pretty sure someone else mentioned it, but The Ritual is a really good movie if you like movies that are spooky, but you also don't need to dissect the entire movie to understand it, like most "good" scary movies nowadays

Here's what I'll tell you. A group of girls go spelunking in a massive cave system. After a cave-in, their leader admits that she has led the group into an unexplored section of the cave system instead of the fully explored portion that they had originally planned to visit. They're only chance for survival is to go down and try to find a way out.

That isn't scary at all.

I didn’t particularly enjoy this movie, but it got points for actually making witches scary again. The witch in the movie was primal, inhuman and other worldly.

First one was mostly good, everything after it fucking sucked ass though

While not totally shit your pants scary. There are some spooky moments and its pretty good for a zombie flick.
