You're fucking retarded if you think people didn't care about the electoral college until now. There have been 5 elections where the person who won the popular vote lost the election. The most recent were 2016 and 2000.
People start giving more of a shit when the electoral college actually *contradicts* the will of the majority of voters. That's why they gave a shit in 2016 and in 2000. Because those are the two in modern history where it has happened.
Regardless, the polls largely showed Clinton with the highest likelihood of winning. She won the popular vote, so the polls weren't wrong.
They polled people, and the majority said they would have supported her. That's what the election results showed. The majority did not support Trump.
They extrapolated that to mean that she would win the election, which is very reasonable because it's very rare that a candidate loses the popular vote and wins the electoral college.
