After telling my psychologist about my serious concern of having actual ADD/ADHD, she went back to the usual questioning and somehow went off-topic. I don't remember most of what she asked but one thing stuck with me since she asked it toward the end of the session.
>"I know what you think is going to help you, or at least you hope is going to help you." >"I don't know, what do you mean?" >"You hope for some magic pill, something external that will fix all your problems of procrastination, pessimism, inattentiveness, and so on and so on."
I don't know what to think about this. I want to fix my problems. I don't care if it's with or without medication, if that was really what she aluding to. I want to fix them. I just can't. I either fail at trying or try and fail doing the things or keeping them up. My life is full of pessimism and addictions. I dropped out of college 3 times and want to start once again this winter. My mother scolds me on a daily basis to do something like going to the gym, instead I just watch YT. I am written off as lazy and as not using my true potential.
I can't get add meds either so I just take benzedrex. Otc stim does the same thing as adderall. Cheap and easy to use. Have fun.

I live in the EU, no way that you can get that OTC.

I was in the same situation about 3 years ago. Now im on my way to a Ivy League Level University. My advice to you is to keep pushing because I used to be a Morbidly Obese Incel Loser ready to quit at age 15. Inattentiness aint your fault. Push on and keep fighting after you get treatment. Take action and make use of your life.
Adrian Campbell
So you say I should go to a psychiatrist although my psychologist wouldn't approve of that? I'm also what you call a morbidly obese incel loser...
Easton Flores
You can just get it off Amazon. I'm pretty sure they have like international shipping.

If thats what it takes. Forgive me cause this is literally my first time ever posting on Yea Forums (i usually just lurk). Anyway, Get treatment but be smart about it. I am currently taking one of the only non-amphetamine ADD drugs out there called Straterra. I've heard some people have had bad experiences with it but it works for me.

Sorry for the wait btw. Trying to post is a pain in my ass

I have diognosed aspbergers and recently I've headed back to college to finish off my degree.
I wanted to have access to the meds for concentration so I arranged a meeting with py shrink and overplayed my ADHD super hard.
Long story short I have access to the strong meds. It for extended periods that require alot of concentration. Makes studying mutch more enjoyable.
There are no pills to fix procrastination it comes from within.
Jack Hughes
I know that the procrastination won't fix itself, but the meds, as I read online from anecdotes, will turn >jumping over trumps 30ft wall into >jumping over a 5ft fence It will most likely be manageable to fix the big problems, and not impossible.
Leo Turner
This is pretty mutch how it is. I take an amfetamin substitute called "Concerta" but I only take it when I study because I don't actually need it.
Since you live in the EU like I do. The school is forced to adapt to your needs in most of the EU country's. If you have a diagnosis.
For example. Longer test time in special rooms, don't need to do certain assignments and so on. I get a shit ton of extra help because of my aspbergers and adhd
Henry Martinez
You can AMA OP, Ill be here for a good bit. I literally went from A fucking nobody almost failing out of highschool to someones whos never been more successful and happy in their life. I have full faith youll get there too.
Aaron Rogers
Forgot to add. Don't rely on the meds for anything. Try to work out your problems and let the meds work as a crutch.
I've had a few friends that relied to much on the medicin to help them and they ended up worse than before.
Just as a warning. :)

Wow now that someone like you offers himself to answer my questions, my mind is fully erased of questions I had minutes ago. RIP
I didnt know that, thought universities didnt give a shit lol
Well did they get it prescribed though? Every "adderall gone bad" story is from people who don't have adhd and abuse it. I'm still planning on seeing my psychologist even after I possibly get diagnosed, I want to finally be able to go through with the stuff she tells me to do. I dont want to go home and just ignore everything she said for the past hour. I want to better myself.
Logan Johnson
ask your psychologist if they'll fuck you
Chase Lopez
Thats the Yea Forums type of answer ive been waiting for

They got it described... My uncle who was a really well payed graphic artist in the US. Started taking prescribed ADHD meds about 10 years ago. Now he's homeless and an alcoholic.
Universities don't give a shit. They are however forced by the "School law" to obide to you. Ask your shrink or call the schools. Getting that diagnoses is a gane changer in the study world
Where in the EU are you from?
Hudson Wilson
I can download kik of some shit, if you want. I want to help cause if youre anything like me, you could provide alot for society. Not helping would just be such a waste of potential.
Parker Williams
Also good luck and hope everything works out.
I'm heading to bed, have been driving cross Northan Germany all day and need to sleep.
Best if luck!
Elijah Hall
she's not going to help you. you should never have a woman doctor, anyway. women should not do any kind of actual work, and they can't be trusted.
go to a different doctor. the best thing to do is go to your normal general medicine doctor and complain to him. hopefully you dont have some raghead cunt for a general practitioner as well.
as a general rule, if you are a white male, you should get a white male doctor. they are just more likely to help you.
Parker Cook
Im from Germany, living in Cologne. Well I'll look out for med abusing behaviours. I surely don't want to end up under a bridge.
Alright have a good night, also lying in bed trying to sleep now. Thank you very much.
I'll look out for that next time I change doctors lol

How long have you been seeing this therapist? I obviously know jack shit about you, but in general I think what she's saying is true: people often want a simple answer to their problems.
In her own words (and I'm assuming she's echoing back things you've told her), you have problems with pessimism, procrastination, inattentiveness, etc.
Has she brought up cognitive behavioral therapy? That's what I've been doing with my shrink, for similar issues, and it's been helpful. Definitely takes time though. And it alone hasn't "fixed" me- in fact, I've slowly come to realize that the whole idea of being "fixed" is a fucking illusion. Now that I'm thinking about it, one of the major things I've gotten out of therapy is that I stopped seeing myself and others as so black-and-white... I used to see other people as normal, while I was this hopeless fuckup, but in the last year I've been getting better at seeing everyone in shades of gray. I grew up in an upper middle class family, and know some people personally who are really successful (high six figure salaries, some making over a million annually), but whose personal lives are a fucking mess.
Anyway, I'm starting to ramble: my point is, if you want to fix the shit you described in your OP, I think your therapist is probably right, it's going to take time. If you're anything like me, you didn't drop out of college because of some mental disorder; you dropped out because you don't have the things in your life that motivate other people. And those things aren't necessarily good- more often than not, it's fucking ego that motivates people, or shitty parents that filled their kids heads with all sorts of shit about how they're life is going to suck unless they become a doctor (and then when they eventually become a doctor, or a lawyer, or whatever, they realize that they're fucking miserable and that all the time and effort and debt was a complete fucking waste: this happens a LOT more often than people admit).

ADHD fag here. Got the meds. They can come with a lot of bad, too, so I wouldn't worry too much. I came off it and manage fine. A whole lot of management is techniques, which a psychologist can help you with. And even if you weren't alluding, she's right. It isn't magic. It fixes a chemical deficiency, but ADHD is the whole brain. It gives you a baseline for dopamine and nonepinephrine. That's it. And exercise can do the same.
On that note. Shitty psychologist you got there. She should have referred you at least for a differential assessment where they try to figure out the root of the issue.
ADHD shares a lot of symptoms with other disorders as well. Bi polar, anxiety disorder (it can also cause anxiety disorders. Two way street) so what you really should be asking for is an assessment.
Zachary Perry
A psychologists job is to help you cope without meds. Most psychologists cannot prescribe.
If you need meds, make an appt with a psychiatrist. They are MDs and can prescribe meds to help.
She told me that she really thinks more men would be happy if they were transsexual and her "goal" is to convince more of them that that's their problem.
She also thinks more women would be happy as transsexual but that it's "not as big of a problem society has".
Trust fucking no one.

Benzedrex is horrible, please don't settle for that. Those lavendar burps give me nightmare. I'm ADD for most of my life, but I need my adderall to thrive during lectures. It has turned my life around and shown me that I'm not just a lazy, pathetic procrastinator. For me, it is magic like that..
I dont know much about adhd, but I watched this video recently. I found it very interesting, the treatment described sounds like it was developed from a place of real understanding of the disorder. Hope it helps
