Your resting heart rate is dependent on a lot of factors. Yes, weight is one of them but it's just a piece of the puzzle. Running, for one and having a stronger heart will decrease the rate it needs to beat in order to pump the same amount of blood. Diet, sodium levels, hydration, also play a factor, even the amount of lean body mass affects your heart rate at rest. To answer your question, exercise and healthier eating will give you a stronger heart and lower your heart rate. Aided by clean eating, you'll also decrease your risk of heart disease.

stop being fat, stop smoking anything, stop drinking alcohol and caffeine, exercise, eat healthy

First off...85 isnt horrible.
Eat less salt, and do more cardio, its really that easy.
70 is really pretty low, mid 70s is fine...why that number and whats the one month time limit for?

thanks lads. if i do lots of cardio every day how fast do you think it will go down? or is it that different for everybody.

there is a paper on google scholar where mortality rates are a lot higher for people with a high resting heart rate. your heart is working its ass off 20% more just to pump your disgusting blood into your penis. your wear and tear is a lot higher... that is quite a burden for your heart, it has to beat 8 million times more a year than a normal heart

someone told me im going to have a heart attack by the time im 40 unless i can get my resting heart rate down to at least 70. i dont eat bad, eat salt, or smoke. im 5'11 145lbs

What is the purpose of wanting a lower heart rate? The rate itself is pretty meaningless. Cardio is the best way to I crease the volume your heart can pump with each beat. Aka stronger heart, can pump more with less beats.
This is something that take a long time to achieve. The heart is not like every other muscle, it works 24/7 without getting tired, so working it out through cardio is a long process, but the only one. Try long distance swimming or hiking. Running will tire your body out too fast before the heart can get its workout in. And j mean bouts of hiking at a steady pace for multiple hours.

unless they're a qualified medical professional, ignore them

the sticky

ask your doctor for propanolol and tell him you have anxiety.

I agree. 85 resting heart rate for someone your age and size really isnt that bad. Unless it's a qualified doctor telling you this, for reasons unbeknown to us, then they don't know what they're talking about

Heart disease is just as much about your genes as it is about your diet..youre >doinitrite.jpg
Just remember skinny doesnt equal healthy. Eat fish, veg, junkfood is fine right now, you're still a teen and literally still growing. If you had a heart issue, it'd be congenital, and you'd knoe about it already. You don't develop heart disease in your teens unless its a genetic disorder, you develop it in your 30s when your metabolism hits the brakes.

What someone is obviously not a health care professional then

Dr here, Can confirm excessive BPM can shorten lifespan, and increase risk of heart attacks. But that's the issue, increased - lots of other factors at play.

/fit/ told me not to listen to any of that advice because its outdated. they are also the ones who told me i would die unless i got my heartrate down to 70. everybody there seems to have a resting heart rate of 40-60. surely 85 cant be normal?

want me to leak your best friend

40? Only the top long distance athletes in the world can achieve a rbpm that low. They're full of shit. 60-100 is well within the normal range of a young adults resting heart rate. You are fine. If you're worried, eat healthier and exercise. If doing that also happens to lower your heart rate then all the better.

it shouldn’t be under 50 unless you are an olympic athlete. also en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beta_blocker

It's not normal
Are you eating fatty foods?
Do you smoke?
Do you exercise?
Do you drink soda?
Do you eat sugary foods?

You know damn well what things you shouldn't be doing. So stop doing them.

I have a resting heart rate of 68, but I'm 220lb and 175cm.

I do have a fairly active life style, so I don't know what to tell you.

do you get stressed easily throughout the day?
try yoga, or at least deliberate breathing exercises.
just 5 minutes a day of light meditation can do you wonders.

Well, can confirm, no matter what your heart rate is now...one day it's gonna stop.
Mid 70s is 100% normal.
If you have a heart attack in your 40s it wont be from the bag of chips you ate today. Non-congenital heart disease is a long game, so chill.

What is your blood pressure?

ive never paid attention when i go to the doctors so i dont knows the numbers but they say its "normal".

to everyone itt, thanks for your advice. ill do at least an hour of cardio everyday and try to eat better

most chain pharmacy’s have blood pressure machines free to use. good luck op, take care

Also cut down on stress. Stress can change this whole process

will do. thanks guys

85 is horrible you should be at max 120 when running full speed for 30 minutes, 45 is what a normal human being should strive for

Keep in mind that you can be as far as a visible fat guy, but look slim. Fat can grow inside your body and be more dangerous than visible fat.

Anyways, cut down on sugar, alcohol is one of the worst. Then I suggest cardio, which can just be walking or cycling. Build up slowly and watch your diet. Mine dropped from 80 to 58 at some point because I was riding 64km by bike almost every day (commute on race bike)

Try increasing salt intake

My average bpm is 95+, my resting is usually 70. I’m 25 am I dying?

no your normal

>40? Only the top long distance athletes in the world can achieve a rbpm that low.
I only ran 5 miles every other day and lifted alternating days and got to 40. I went in for some minor surgery and kept tripping the heart rate monitor waiting for the surgery to start because I kept dipping below 40.

you can get it to zero if you kys

this chart is accurate, but it doesn't mean much. blood pressure is far more important than heart rate. heart rate barely says anything about someone's cardiac health.

i forgot to add that i was a fat kid for most of my life. ive been almost completly unactive for 6-7 years now. the reason i also made the OP is because ive been getting chest pains and hard to take a deep breath.

anyways thanks again people
