I just started reading it and finished the part where Moses parts the Red Sea to escape the Egyptians. It's a good book when reading it as a fiction novel.

Former Christian here: how do you approach ideas like the immortal soul in relation to biology? One thing that bothered me is how when the brain is altered by chemicals, brain damage/lobotomy, or dementia, it's possible for a personality to be altered to a degree where a person is not the same any more. To me it seems like all there is to a soul is a collection of memories and neural connections in the brain.

Hoping not to sound like one of those uber-atheists cause trust me, I can't stand them either.

How do you deal with the knowledge that an Omniscient (knows literally everything) Omnipotent (All powerful in in every sense) and omnipresent (everywhere, and anywhere at any time or place) God, created the very evil it portends to want to save you from?

How do you deal with the fact that, this same god absolves itself from guilt by being infallible (literally made itself unable to be wrong) to escape guilt from creating the problems it wants to save us from? That this same god knew Lucifer would betray it and still let it go to run amok, to create some false illusion of choice that I'm sure you'll cite because you probably stopped reading because logic and common sense are the enemies of religion.

It's like someone holding a gun to someones head, and telling the person to hit themselves then asking why they're hitting themselves. It's completely unlogically hypocritical.

We are in a simulation type scenario that within exists every single outcome of every possibility imaginable. All consciousness is the aggregate collection of knowledge and experience of the universe. All things all linked together somehow and within us we have the ability to access this link. Almost every ancient diety, god, prophet, or whatever touches on this.

Be that as it might be if you truly wish to believe that, it doesn't explain away the fact that god already knows the choice current you made completely destroying any necessity of choice. You're living in the current line of your life and that line is already lived, the illusion of choice is an illusion because of this because God already knows what you choice you made before hand in that specific line of possibility/reality.

Therefor, our existence is a joke because and solely because God created, aided, and abetted all these potential choices and negative outcomes before we've ever lived our lives making it all pointless. It's the ultimate joke without a punchline and that joke is our lives.
