I have an arraignment tomorrow for driving with suspended license/expired inspection sticker. I have no prior criminal record, and did not get arrested when my license was revoked. What will happen, Yea Forums? Should I plead 'guilty', 'not guilty' or 'n o contest'? Any advice is much appreciated.

>I have no prior criminal record
>my license was revoked
hmmm

My license was revoked when the cop pulled me over for the inspection sticker. He said I wasn't getting arrested cause I have no criminal record but did tow my car. I've been ubering to work ever since.

You will become trapped in your small town, and put on probation for being black.

what?
>driving with suspended license

I'm not black, but the judge may be.

why was your license suspended?

Unpaid ticket.

i'd probably plead not guilty and get a fucking lawyer

roughly what you could get fucked with just for the driving on a suspended

get to court early, look as presentable as possible. Wear nice clothes, be sure to shave, etc.

when you get to court ask a clerk if the judge accepts reconsideration letters of a given judgement.

during the hearing, speak intelligibly and be sure to use honorifics. e,g, your honor, yes mam no sir etc.

No here is the juicy bit, judges live mundane lives and are bored out of their minds most of the time.

Garner a favorable decision by whipping your dick out after about 15 minutes after the hearing starts and sing america the beautiful as LOUDLY as humanly possible.

Judges love the break in monotony and will likely give you a reduced sentence for the lols

if this fails just send the court a reconsideration letter if the clerk told you they accept them

also, pay your fucking inspection stickers on time next time you lousy fuck

If you have everything in order now, they will likely just dismiss it.

What does having everything in order mean?

The cop that stopped me did say they will most likely dismiss it but I will have to pay fines and the court costs.

Ticked paid, DL reinstated and inspection sticker good.

Traffic Court is monotonous, the same handful of infractions over and over, the judge rolling through the docket on autopilot.
Disrupt the flow at your own peril.

I've had that kind of thing dismissed with zero cost.

The ticket is paid and the inspection sticker is good, but I haven't got my DL back as I was planning to go to the RMV after the arraignment. I haven't driven since my car was towed that day and the police officer took my license. Is that bad?

Doesn't something like 20% of drivers currently drive on a suspended or expired license and more than 40% of americans drive on an expired license at some point? I think its scarily common (I only say that for insurance purposes).

As for as punishment you'll be fine. You can try to fight it and honestly you might have the charges dropped. Depending on how they are filed and state law the officer present during your violation will have to be in court and most often the cops dont show because they get paid next to nothing and its always on their off days.

As for pleading guilty you'll be hit with a fine and told to pay the clerk before being allowed to get your license legally. Try to see what the prosecutors will work you down to because I personally dont even worry about licensing and shit. Just pay a fine when you get caught and be on your way. Much cheaper in the long run as long as you dont cause accidents.

Should have gotten the license fixed, before court. But, that might be enough. Suspended DL, can be a nasty charge. Just tell them you planned to do it after the court date and they might cut you some slack.

Do you think I should guilty then and hope they just hit me with fines, or will that risk some asshole judge actually trying to send me to jail?

Oh, and a cop will always keep a suspended/revoked DL.

Jesus christ, nobody told me any of this. Thanks though

It means you've fixed whatever defect prompted the original citation.
If you get pulled over for a burnt out light or a cracked windshield, having receipts showing you got the work done to repair it will usually get things dismissed.

In your case, it means you've paid the previous ticket, gotten your car inspected, etc. and all that's left is seeing the judge so he can confirm that you can go get your license reinstated.

THEN GO GET YOUR LICENSE REINSTATED.

The amount of times people don't understand the judge isn't going to update your records at the DMV, never go get their license unrevoked, and then get arrested again for driving on a suspended license is too damn high.

If they didn't take you into custody at the traffic stop, it's probably not a jailable offense. Act like a civil respectful human being and you'll probably get the minimum fine or charges dismissed.

If judge is black say "i wuz on my ways to get pussy my nigga" and he will let you off with a warning.

I hope you're right. Thanks man

You can clear your license at the courthouse, in Florida it's called a D4 release, if I remember right. Then you can take your license to court and show the Judge. He's at the Judge's mercy now. He may cut him loose or give a new court date to bring it in or make him plea and do penalties.

You plead NOT GUILTY, and go hire a lawyer. Or you plead guilty and take your chances. If the driving unlicensed is a misdemeanor you NEED a lawyer. Get one appointed.

What state?
Why was your license revoked prior to you getting pulled over?

For misdemeanors, you may be arrested or given a notice to appear if the circumstances warrant it. OP may still go to jail.

State is MA. My license was suspended as I had an unpaid ticket. I still physically had my ID when the cop pulled me over for my inspection sticker, but he informed me that my license was very recently suspended as I had not paid the ticket on time(I fucked up, I know). He said since you have clean criminal record you are not arrested but he did take my license and tow my car. He also told me that I have to go to court but it will most likely be a fine, however I think that probably depends on the judge which is why I need advice on what to plead.

did you get a notice in the mail?

Yes

actually don't answer that

>Towed for out of date inspection sticker

>A first offense conviction shall result in the following penalties:
>A fine ranging from $500-$1,000, or
>Imprisonment for no more than 10 days, or
>Both fine and imprisonment.
get a lawyer

Ok

if you don't know never do but anything, just no contest or I do not know so he can know that you weren't offered any real insight.
.The sticker is used to male you aware of laws, you can't bit know them with it, you didn't have it, you can't really know. You were driving fast? I'd ll no, just eat the pill and offer to pay it off if it's a fix it ticket. And if it's a ticket cause you smelled, shut up and hope not to die, no homo. And if you don't actually have a license and they want to pursue for criminal and irrational misconduct cause you don't know anything, you should make certain that you are a citizen on the sheets he has. And if it works out in your favor l. thank him to say you mean that you really didn't knowing was safe to be in court. Don't die.

Listen to me, get a lawyer ASAP.

If you can't, go to court and plea not guilty. The worst that is going to happen is ten days in jail with $1k in fines. Do not talk about the incident, you do not recall any details about the incident, you do not agree to anything other than you are entering into a not guilty plea. They may try to have you sign your right to council away (free council) so just double and triple check any documents you sign in case you're planning on using that.

You have the right to a lawyer.
You will be assigned one by the courts if you so choose.
Ask to be released on your O.R. or Own recognizance.
You may go to jail and have bail set.
Bail in that case will likely be $500 so have that ready.

You may want to talk to a prosecutor and try to have your charges dropped or reduced/try to negotiate a plea bargain. Some won't talk to you, some will. They are humans too you know.

Good luck my dude.
