"James Bond" isn't one specific person, it's a code name that gets taken up by multiple agents throughout the years. Timothy Dalton was the last Bond that I liked. A James Bond film is supposed to be slow paced, grandiose, and a little lighthearted humorous. Brosnan-to-current films are too hardcore fast-paced generic action film imo. Too many cuts.

James Bond can be a Jane Bond if the need arises within the show's lore.

Tastes will and do differ. Moore was the funniest Bond. Connery was the manliest. Dalton was the most spy-like. Brosnan was the most professional-looking. Craig turned out to be the most mature of them.

I'll always prefer Connery. He fights like he has no training and lots of experience, is a chauvinistic pig which perfectly embodies the book character and the time it was written in, and delivers more initiative than brains. The other actors had good things going for them too, but not the same.

I don't know about that. He is usually mentioned as one of the better ones. But the things he was better at, weren't capturing the viewer in the same way as the more colorful guys did. Bond was always supposed to be over-the-top, a provoker, and Dalton unfortunately had the gentle touch.
