I don’t think anyone has forgotten, they just don’t like to admit it. Americans are arrogant and outspoken people when it comes to their country and it’s achievements (and for good reason). For that reason, people don’t like to give them recognition, but realistically- the American military is unparalleled in so many areas no one is stupid enough to think that going to war with the US military won’t be a lethal task

I don’t think it’s actually profitable to win wars now. It’s much more beneficial to the military industrial complex to just maintain a presence in a country and suppress insurgencies rather than try and nation build. This prolongs armed conflict in the region allowing continuous support financially to the military.
