a little earlier, I was drinking some Antiquary 12 y.o. blended malt whisky;
might open a new bottle of Laphroaig QC [Quarter Cask] Islay single malt whisky shortly, rather than opening another bottle of ale - don't want my bladder to be too full, at his time of night

Whoever suggested Bushmills, thats pretty common for me. The Black Bush is better but harder to find. Its just aged Bushmills, but much smoother. Good Irish is often better than most blended scotches.

I agree - Spitfire is very disappointing and I never buy it to put in the chiller in my private bar.
At the moment the chiller has Greene King Abbot Reserve, Shepherd Neame 1698, Morland Old Crafty Hen and McEwans Champion ales in it. The are all very good and I recommend them very highly.

The 12 might be better. The Reserve is very light and mild, but I don't think it's aged 12 yrs. Flowers and honey, like that. But the Reserve was only $35, so, I'll just say its worth a try.
