grab a bunch of blank printer paper, bringing up some figure drawing sites, and just filling that stack with figures.

Wanna learn how to draw humans? Crunch figure drawing. Wanna learn how to draw nonhuman characters? Crunch figure drawing. Basically if it's not an environment or something fully mechanical, CRUNCH FIGURE DRAWING.

You can learn about theory and history all day, but in the end it's a workout; you work the muscles involved to strengthen them. No teacher can give you info to put that into your brain; it is ultimately a self-driven process.

So yeah- the core and foundation of drawing any sort of characters is going to be entirely about:
-Practicing figure drawing in sessions, NEVER just one at a time. Try for a minimum of 10, or even 5 at a time, as your brain trains itself exponentially faster when you do a lot of something while it's still fresh in your mind.
-Take a moment after you finish the figure to look at the reference and spot the ways your figure differs from it; find one aspect you want to improve on, and try and get that part just a bit more correct in the next one.
-Repeat.

First off, commission a better artist(unless you did this, in that case, they do get better at art).
Second the colors, while it's not sparkledog worthy it's pretty damn close. Mellow him out a bit, use shades of similar colors and best not to use a vastly different color scheme. Instead try to use colors that complement one another and look well together. Learn color theory.
Third, the functionality and design, the hand eyes seem like a cool concept but coupled with the tei eye, its kinda overkill. Best to have one or the other.When designing an OC, think about the world they come from, how has that world affected them? (Maybe the hand eyes make perfect sense and I don't know anything about the world your oc comes from.) The best character design are ones where you can look at a character and immediately tell their personality.
Also, this probably falls into the art category but he has next to no detail on the arms, legs and chest. Is he muscular? Does he have any scars? Detail it out. Every bit counts.

That's a good critique, I usually don't think that much about the world that most of my oc's come from, I just make characters that come out of my mind.
