Guise. Real question here. Melatonin doesn't do shit for me. Started off at 1 pill a night and hopelessly worked my way up to 5. Still no results. Unisom or anything else with that active ingredient (dyph-something) works a lil but gives me horrible restless legs. The only thing that works is alcohol. I'd try weed but I can't afford to fail a drug test. Any suggestions?

Melatonin is weird. Lots of scientific data on it, and it's not magic. Doesn't work great either if you have a serious underlying sleep disorder, though it can help.
It knocks me TF out. But also a big variable I've read is timing. You have to have some semblance of a sleep schedule and you can't expect it to work at like 9pm if you've been going to bed at 4am.
Also you need to do the regular sleep hygeine stuff. Avoid coffee and energy drinks before bed, avoid food, avoid screens, and if that's hard at least get apps on your phone/computer that adjust your colour scheme at sunset to eliminate blue light which fucks with your natural melatonin.

Took some last night and woke rubbing my arms. Weirdness ensued, I must have been confused and mistook my arm sweat as lotion. Considering using again so I can record more paranormal activities.

Melatonin doesn't work for me at all, in fact it has the opposite effect. It causes my entire body to feel like it's vibrating, making sleep impossible.

I don't not believe you and im not a doctor that's really weird... Melatonin is a natural sleep hormone. You produce it yourself. Why would it do this I wonder?

Also melatonin is a guaranteed KO for me.

For me it's like taking viagra. It makes me groggy and sometimes I'll fall asleep. But about an hour or two later I wake up with a rock hard erection.

I've started using it for that. Works great if you take some uppers to stay awake.

If you have clinical insomnia, it most likely wont aid in sleeping even in overdose levels. You will need a sedative to combat the sleeplessness

if melatonin does nothing for you, increasing the dose will only make sleep problems alot worse when you eventually stop taking it.

There's no miracel pill, sorry. The only thing that is fucking 10/10 cure for sleep is general anesthesia. But for obvious reasons that can't be used as a daily sleep remedy.

Thanks for the genuinely helpful advice. I was afraid that a strict sleep schedule might be a factor because that's truly where this issue began. I'll have a doctor diagnose that tho, if it persists. I work on a computer until 10PM and it has that warm screen setting so I'll give it a try. My primary fuck up is having soda or anything slightly caffeinated before bed.
Probably going to do this because I'm leaning towards an actual sleep disorder here. I'll get 4 hours of sleep and lie awake until 3AM the next night. Reminds me of fight club...

You're welcome. I had sleep troubles for years and I'll tell you what worked for me.
1) the screen thing. Huge difference when I did the colour scheme stuff.
2) sciencey. Your brain still thinks food is a problem. It will arrange it's circadian rhythm around eating habits.
In the beginning, start fasting 14 hours before you want to wake up. When you're up in the morning at an ideal time, eat a Carby breakfast immediately. Over time (very quickly too, this isn't a long term commitment. Like 1-3 days if you avoid naps) your brain will learn, food available at 6am or whatever time you choose, no food after 4.
You'll start to get sleepy around 10ish depending on your personal sleep time needs.

However, in my country and alot of other countries, getting prescription for those things is extremelly hard. In my country it's usually impossible to get that tier level of prescription unless you have cancer or some other very serious disease. Among regular sleep meds that are easy to get or over the counter shit like melatonin however, there's no miracle pill.

Can't believe no one here had mentioned phenergan. It basically saved me from losing my job and girlfriend. It's more effective than melatonin but not aggressive on your system like a benzo.
