I play many many hours a week and I wish I had never been introduced by my parents. It is a complete and utter waste of time. Any single benefit you can get from video games you can get better from some other hobby. There are some amazing games that are truly worthwhile experiences that have something more than entertainment to offer, sure, but on the whole they are trash and anyone who says otherwise is coping hard

whether or not people should play games isn't really a valid question; people should do whatever they want within the law. the question should be "is playing video games a valid hobby?", to which I'd say no, not really. playing video games is about 1 step above watching tv, in that it's a valid way to pass time, but the things you gain from it are pretty minimal compared to more engaging or creative hobbies like learning a craft, creating art, playing music, or literally anything else. one could assume that with the growing digitization of the modern world that virtual achievements will one day mean something in 'real' life, but right now it doesn't, unless you're highly skilled in a popular competitive game. I'd say that's one of the few exceptions to what I said; dedicating your playtime to a competitive game is the only way to actually gain something out of video games, other than the very rare game with some artistic merit.

It's a waste of time and contributes to the downfall of our society.
