I'm struggling in between atheism and christianity. I'm a skeptical person and I like to look at evidence. Even though there is proof that Jesus christ existed, everything prior to that era sounds like magical bullshit with no proof. Church and religion seems like a waste of time though spending an eternity in hell is the most terrifying thing I can think of.

Buddha isn't a god. Buddhism itself doesn't demand a diety. Buddha refers to Siddhartha Gautama, a philosopher and a teacher. They follow his wisdom and teachings and observations. They don't worship him.
And Buddhism is an extremely pragmatic and realist religion. Some Hinduism gets thrown into it in India, some Japanese mysticism in Japan. Its very flexible when it comes to spirituality because it's central teachings aren't really All that spiritual.

So, in about 400 AD, at the first summit of Nicaea, it was decided that Jesus was God, and not just the son of god. The bible was a book written over the course of about 4500 years, starting with the book of job as the earliest written book. The Old Testament is primarily a history of the jewish people, its written to address the people of the period. At the time, it would be better to follow YHWH than Ba'al, because baal's main form of worship was baby sacrifice. So, that was fine at the time. The Old Testament is constantly filled with people turning away from god, thinking they dont need to follow the first 4 books to the letter, and then god murders all of them.
Then in the new testament, theres a guy who comes and says that you dont need to follow the books to the letter. This is where the old debate of the letter of the law vs the spirit of the law came in. it was an apocalypse, apocalypse from the latin, apo-away, kaluptein, to cover. So Jesus was meant to be an uncovering of the real meaning of the laws of YHWH. So christianity is a cult, a sect of Judaism that took off, with a little help from the Holy Roman Empire enforcing it in the later years.
What I would recommend, if you're looking to decide. Look at the morals. Do you think its a good thing to forgive, to try to forget anger, to share to the needy and to give people second chances. To not be jealous of those who are lucky (joined at the 11th hour) or judge those who have done wrong (cast the first stone).
If you agree with those morals. Live by those morals. You don't need to believe that someone is watching you. You just have to be a good person.

Incidentally, Hell is basically only mentioned in the new testament, mainly in revelations. Revelations was written by John the Revelator, who had really bad schizophrenia. Demons, lucifer, all that is mainly a mythos thing, not a real christian thing.

They were the greatest scientists of the time because the peak of science at the time was in the catholic world. Many of them believed that their discoveries heralded the end of the world, that these 'revelations' of the natural world would mean 'it' was coming.

However. Catholics arent the majority anymore, and very few of the greatest scientists of today are catholic. So maybe note that correlation is not causation.

I'm sure there were a number of "prophets" around in the time Jesus supposedly existed, centuries before and centuries after. I meant we've got lots of supposed prophets these days too. Buddhism doesn't require a god. It gets peppered in in Hindu areas, but Buddhism itself doesn't care about it much. It's about what is the true reality. In as basic and objective as it sounds.
