Well, the way I see it, people fight over power. It's the one thing that you don't need to question, everybody wants it. I believe that real life is similar to George Orwell's 1984; most world powers are the same as us, just with different issues.
Corporations are a big part of it, especially gun manufacturers. If governments fail to meet the expected firearm sales, they'll just sell them to developing nations in Africa.
The rich just control everything, and have an unquenchable demand for power. It's not anything against the wealthy, I just see it like that, be it "world domination" or influence on how a public place looks/
