well I usually know why I feel the need to take a nap. it is related to the solutions you mentioned: I can't sleep well. but last night especially I didn't have a good night sleep. I know why, but now I (was) am stuck with the need to take a nap.
It usually doesn't help. The nap makes me drowsier and it makes it harder to fall asleep afterwards. Then I feel the need to take a nap the next day and yadda yadda.
It's just a very tempting thing to do and it's hard to fight off the impulse

If you are tired you should go sleep. If you are getting enough sleep and you are still tired you might be deficient in vitamin b or vitamin d. Try being lazy on a comfy lawn chair in the sun instead of inside on the couch. Make sure to wear sunscreen if you are going to be outside for a long time.
