how about you go ask /k/

Any glock is a good defense weapon especially if its your first

i have but i usually just get assholes who troll me most of the time

i guess i just figured some calibers were better then other's for a first time handgun.or am i wrong and there's really no difference besides preferance

Avoid .40, it's a dying caliber. 9mm offers the same real world defensive performance plus more capacity, cheaper ammo, and lower recoil. The only benefit to a .40 glock is if you need a glock really cheap because many police depts are ditching their Glock 22s in favor of Glock 17s so you can find used Glock 22s for under $300.

yes but you need to use hollow points for maximum safety, especially if you live with people or pets.

But not legal in all places. Glocks are hard to get in certain states. So reserach the home defense laws or get put in jail by autistic police

ok

well,i dont live in some libtard state.so im sure the laws are pretty good.and yeah, with whatever gun i buy im getting hollow points for sure

im just wondering because ive asked questions like this before and it seems like some calibers are better then others

Most hollowpoints clog with drywall and won't actually provide any reduced overpenetration vs FMJs. Hollowpoints should definitely be used because they expand and are more likely to damage vitals on your target, but they don't provide any additional safety in a home defense setting if you're worried about penetration thru walls. Only fragmenting rifle rounds like high velocity 5.56 will offer that sort of reduced penetration.

Yes/no

If it kills people dead it works. As a beginner, terminal ballistics aren't something you need to be worried about, at least not between 9mm, .40 and .45 ACP. 10mm is a little different but for your first handgun, you shouldn't be looking at 10mm auto anyway.

My personal choice would be in 9 (I prefer the 19 to the 17 but I don't like monstrous handguns) just because it's less expensive than .40, meaning more training at the range

drywall doesnt stop anything. But hollow points dont go through steel

9mm. The answer is 9mm. .40 is fucking stupid and is being ditched by the FBI and most police in favor of 9mm for a variety of reasons. Primarily cost and equal performance in studies. Also 9mm is far more common and followup shots are faster and easier. .40 is snappy and not very fun or easy to shoot vs 9. Get a Glock 19 for your first gun. It's the perfect do-all size.

Attached: IMG_20160202_171457.jpg (1441x1070, 418K)

so pretty much, for a first handgun.a 9mm, .40 or 45 acp would be a pretty good choice? because ive looked at glocks before and id perfer a .40 cal over a 9mm

True, but drywall will cause the right 5.56 rounds to start to yaw and then fragment. 00 buck and common pistol rounds will blast thru drywall as if it doesn't exist, hollowpoint or not.

people always use the fbi and police excuse, but id rather go by what your average citizen uses

Yes, its good.

But youre better off with a shorter length shotgun for home defense.

If you want a handgun look into a M&P Shield or Compact. Those are going for really good prices right now. Get one in 9mm.

Just get a shotgun.
Most states dont even regulate shotguns
Way less paperwork then getting a pistol

Ok, then the answer is still 9mm. Have you checked your local gunstore? 9mm ammo is far, far more common. Why? Because 9mm handguns are the most popular caliber for citizens. .45 would be next, and .40 would be a distant 3rd place.

Yes, I'd tell you to get a Glock 19. I prefer 9 based on cost alone

If you like .40, get a Glock 23

No. Get a double action 38 special with p plus rounds. Just keep pulling the trigger until they are dead or it stops going bang

Why?

9mm allows for more capacity.

9mm is the logical choice.

45acp is for fun at the range, and .40 is just to have one when you already have a decent polymer 9mm and a .45 1911.

There are only 2 main weapons you should choose.
Taurus G2C
and
Smith and Wesson M&P shield 2.0

All other guns compare themselves to these two specific guns.
Both come in .45 and 9mm.

Um...then 9 is the most popular by far. Glock doesn't even make a generation 5 pistol in .40 caliber because .40 has plummeted in popularity. The (current) 5th generation glock models are currently only available in 9mm.

Get a shotgun with a mix of 00 buckshot and rifled hollow point slugs.

popular doesnt always mean better, and people who are suggesting shotguns.ive shot them before and perfer handguns or rifles instead

its drywall man. You can poke through it with a finger. Nobody thinks about stopping drywall penetration

Former USMC grunt checking in : own a 9mm m&p shield, .40cal m&p shield, and a glock 22.

9mm jams more, gotta keep it lubed more (less powder smaller cartridge).

The single stack shields have WAY more recoil (the 9mm shield has more recoil than the .40 glock 22 ) just because of the design.

The slim design of the shields are more designed for conceal carry.

If you get a full size, its going to have less recoil than a slim / single stack design.

My glock 22 (the .40 cal) bought it used for like 350 bucks, old as dirt at a pawn shop, dont think it's ever jammed, I take terrible care of it, it's almost a joke. It holds tightest groups of all my pistols.... its honestly the most dependable thing I own, compared to the 400-500+ pistols I've got.
If you're planning on carrying it every day, go with an M&P shield, they're skinny as shit and no one will know you have it. The recoil on them though is monsterous.

If you want something to keep next to your bed, get a glock 22. That thing is so dependable i swear I cant even come up with a good analogy for it... it's great though for home defense.

Just nut up and say you want a 10mm and stop being a total faggot.

Attached: 220-hunter-pistol.jpg (700x600, 67K)

Hey, get what you want. I own Glocks in 9mm, .40, and 10mm and the .40 is the worst of them all. Harshest recoil for literally no benefit plus reduced capacity. 10mm offers really good power and is worth the added recoil, and 9mm is the best jack of all trades that combines capacity, performance, and low recoil. Like I said, get what you want, but .40 at this point is objectively a subpar choice.

sounds like /k/

.470 Nitro Express is the best caliber for home defense. Don't listen to anyone else.

Want the no "man up" BS truth? .22 pistol. No kick so it stays accurate, less chance of a deadly ritcochet or going through a wall, no deafening loud bang without hearing protection, all with enough power to pierce the thickest part of the skull. If you really only want middle of the night self defense against a robber that's the gun you want. Both the gun and ammo is cheap too so that's a plus.

10mm ive looked at,but its 50/50 on people telling me its shit for home defense and more for hunting.or its ok for home defense

YC9
Because you can now.

YEET

10mm is a great hunting and wilderness defense caliber that is capable of taking down deer and black bear. But the ammo cost and recoil makes it not a great choice for home defense. Also a terrible choice for a first gun. Only get a 10mm once you have a good amount of more common caliber firearms. 10mm is still somewhat of an exotic caliber and not common.

either way,i just wanted something more powerful then a 9mm but still good for self defense.perhaps 10mm is more what i should look at? its gonna be the first gun but ive also thought about just buying a 9mm glock and an ar 15 because of its the extra power id get

>monsterous
Lol exaggerate much?

so lets say i wanted something for a first gun thats more powerful then a glock 9mm,do i have any good options?

Here's a suggestion. Get the .40 cal glock 22 and also get a 9mm conversion barrel. That way you can practice with cheap 9mm and use .40 for self-defense if you think it's really 'better' than 9mm. (hint: it's really not)

Listen to this guy. Get a .40 cal and lots of companies make 9mm conversion barrels so you can shoot 9mm out of a .40 glock.

Get a Hi-Point

for a 9mm and .40, the recoil on the m&p shields is ridiculous compared to their full size counterparts... he's a new gun buyer, I'm trying to make it clear that if he's considering recoil, its a big difference between a pistol designed for conceal carry and one designed for open carry. The open carry is going to barely jump, the conceal carry is going to bend your elbow... monsterous I think is pretty appropriate.

>i own a collection of over 500+ pistols
okay, sure thing buddy

what about what i was saying though? lets forget the whole .40 cal thing for a minute here, would there be no other option for me besides 9mm? i dont really have a problem with 9mm but i just want something with a little bit more power to it

.40 short and weak. Hardpass

I have a .45 1911, I love it but would recommend a 9mm Glock, it has more ammo. I'm just a sucker for 1911's, only having 9 rounds (1 in chamber and 8 round mag) in my gun is the big reason I can't recommend it.

I would not recommend a .40 they are not that reliable. Your best bet is always a 9mm, cheap and plentiful. As for the Glock sure; I personally don't care for them but they are simple, easy to clean and hard to fuck up. Any 9mm Glock is a perfect place to start if you don't know much about firearms.

For more power I'd go with a .45 over a .40. .40 is quite literally pointless. At one point it was the sweetspot between the capacity of 9mm and the power of .45 but modern hollowpoint designs have made 9mm and .40 essentially identical in performance.

Just get a G21 in .45

Or a G20 in 10mm

.40 is kind of obsolete.

A snub-nose 357magnum might be monsterous, a 9mm shield is not. If you think it is then you need to jack off more or get ammo with less recoil.

Hand grenades and sarin gas

Agreed. .45 or 10mm if you really need 'more power' than a 9mm. Although realistically you actually don't need anything more than 9mm.

even a .22 is ok. this is such a silly question

OP you would know the answer if you did the right thing->Get training first.

Don't waste your money on a Glock.

Get a H&K USP in .45.

Don't get anything larger than a .40 for your first, go 9mm if you are concerned about hand strength. Bigger will not only hurt your hands to fire but will also shoot through too much. Glocks are good to start with, simple to shoot and maintain. My first was a .40 Glock.

have glock 17. best one and trained tactically with it. love it.

read it again homie, I was talking about price. the 400-500 dollar pistols*

im not concerned about hand strength,im more concerned about over penetration and if a .40 is really worth it over a 9mm because ive watched alot of those ballastics videos and wasnt really impressed with the difference between 9mm and .40

Duh?

i guess im not specifically set on glocks,it was just an example because ive looked at .40 caliber glocks before

Go big or go home

Basically, go for a .40 if you want hearing damage and to look like a nignog. And go with a 9mm if you're not autistic.
>.45 acp 1911s are ok tho

lmao .40 was the first pistol round i ever fired. it's fucking horrible, like i couldn't believe i was that shit at handling a pistol and i couldn't believe how much fucking kick that had.

i fired a 9 right after that and felt like i could actually hit a target.

.45 isn't difficult to shoot.

Its a great round for home defense with hollow points due to relatively low muzzle velocity but great stopping power.

Are you pretty strong??

you dont need to be strong to shoot a gun

> .45 acp 1911

what about a .45 glock?

For home defense in small apartment, go with a .410 judge.

For self defense carry 45 or go home.

what about something specific to glocks?

So, anybody that says don’t waste your money on a Glock is a fucking idiot. Owned and carried tons of weapons. Carry a Glock everyday. Love Sigs, M&Ps, basically there are many quality handguns out there . But anyone who tells you Glocks are garbage is a fucking retard. So many gun faggots out there They think anything besides what they carry is garbage . And they know dick about weapons .

or would a .45 glock be good?

i cant say im 100 percent against 9mm though,i just want something with a bit more power then a 9mm

1911s are the only exception because no matter how old it is, still shoots like butter.

he's talking about price mr. MCcontextClues

The current standard is the 9mm Shield 2.0. You don't need anything else.

For the record I carry a Glock 30s with night sights. Q series isw holster. Black talons

i mean,i dont have a problem with 1911.i was speaking on glocks specifically.would a .45 glock not be as good as a 1911 .45?

why don't you learn how to fight instead of being a scared pussy all the time? you're what's wrong with the us.

H&K > Glock by a factor of a million, you Glock fanboy.

says the anti gun retard, time to send you commies to north korea where you belong

pretty much this. with a hand cannon, in the middle of the night, if that first round doesn't hit its mark, you're essentially fucked due to now being blind and deaf.

First gun for home defense that is cheaper would be any shotgun. Benelli nova is perfect. 12 gage shells won't penetrate walls and hurt your neighbors especially since you're probably new to shooting. Slugs are great for incapacitating intruders and won't have the spread effect. But definitely not a handgun unless you need to take it outside. If that's the case you might need a ccw from your state.

Psssst. W r o n g

If you carry a 1911 you better practice like a motherfucker with it. Cuz if you don’t flick safety off in moment of truth you are dead. If you practice with it and it becomes muscle memory, 1911 is fine but not as concealable and less capacity than other striker fire .45s

what's good for a house then, an ak47?

what if you didnt want a shotgun though

id rather have an ar 15 then a shotgun, ive shot shotguns before and ive always hated them

i dont know,ak 47's are for communists and sand niggers.be a patriot and own an ar 15

This. Avoid .40 - even the really good deals right now on LEO trade-ins. Get a 9mm or save up for one if you cant afford it

ok.....but what about a .45 glock?

Get a 9mm. Easier to shoot, Perform the same, and way cheaper which means more practice which means better shooting. Especially important for a first handgun. The learning curve is steep and you need to practice. The .40 will gain you nothing but making your wallet lighter and will make you a worse shooter. Think of it this way, a 9mm to the chest has better terminal effects than a .40 to the wall beside him.

Shotgun. Duh.

>Taurus

gtfo, you poor

The thing is you want rounds that stop fast and easy so they don't go through a person or wall. You are liable for any damage a stray bullet causes.

Then go for an AR-15.more accuracy for amateurs. Just get a low velocity round. Maybe 223. Always avoid over penetration for home defense.

Honestly try to find a way to try some different shotguns. If you find the right one they really are ideal.

As far as handguns get a wheel gun. Higher caliber, more reliable and you can find some that chamber in multiple types of rounds. Check out the smith and wesson governor. That's my personal bear gun and everyday carry.

what about a .45 then? i just want something that performs better then a 9mm but is still good for a first gun

or would a 9mm and an ar 15 be good? ive thought about that before but im not 100 percent what to get in terms of an ar 15 so im not putting holes through every wall in my house and shooting bystanders i dont want to shoot

>.40 is snappy and not very fun or easy to shoot vs 9.
I own a .40 and a 9 and that is a very true statement. The .40 barks a little more in the hand and it effects accuracy.

"Taurus"

I literally cringed away from monitor

Bought wife one at academy cuz it was pink... literally jams / misfeeds / misfires once for every successful shot. Horrrrridddd

To add, you don't want a rifle because they can hard to maneuver in a small area like a hallway or turning corners and harder to store close to bed for fast and easy access. Also they can cause way more damage to property.

why do you even need a gun? are you such an awful person that people are breaking in to teach you a lesson? or do you just like killing people?

Forgot Pic related.

>Taurus G2C
Found the Mexican

>wheel gun

you mean a revolver? i dont like having to load them 1 round at a time, and i know they have speed loaders.but id rather just buy a handgun

i will admit, before i seriously think about buying something.im either going to shoot a .44 or .357 revolver speed loader

i need a gun because im not a liberal faggot like you who thinks pissing your diapers is a more effective form of self defense

yeah, start with the 9mm. go to a gun range and rent a couple of models to see what fits, what recoil you handle, etc.

you start out with a big gun, you might make yourself anticipate and start flinching the shot.

fuck you hippy

Attached: IMG_20190120_174827.jpg (1731x1298, 660K)

You are a clown. What’s the difference? Besides price? Both are excellent weapons . I own both. Carried for work and personal for 40 years . And have actually put that shit into practice. So I like HK just fine. Have owned some but sold them. Plus Sigs, Colts, Berettas, Smith’s. For the money, you can’t beat Glocks. You’re the fanboy. Who knows dick but from what gun fags talk about. Owned Glock 17, 19, 26,27, 30s. Never a feed problem. Dead nuts accurate . You are exactly the gun fag I’m talking about.

Consider a Glock 30. Caliber is .45 and ammo (ball and hollow point) is much cheaper and easier to find than .40. Glock 30 is also concealable. Local and State nazis (cops) use the .40 to penetrate steel such as car doors etc. as it is a smaller higher powered round. You don't need that shit screwing up your life if you shoot through an apartment wall and kill someone innocent.

He could always learn to not be a limp wristed faggot if recoil is that much of a problem. We learn to overcome as we learn to shoot different weapons. If you start with something powerful anything weaker shouldn't be a problem.

...

If you want cheap and reliable and easy to use, hands down shotgun.

If you want reliable and easy to use, ar-15 but bear in mind you need to do research (not asking fuckers on Yea Forums) about what round to have it chambered in.

If you want cheap and reliable and versatile for function, get a high caliber wheel gun. 45 acp is good because with hollow points you will be able to kill your assailant with one shot with no penetration. 9mm has been known to need a full mag to put someone down. That can be dangerous.

Shoot guns of different calibers to find your favorite. It's all a matter of opinion. There's no "best caliber"

>nazi's

lol,why should anyone take advice from some anti cop libtard like you? have you even shot a gun before soyboy, and i dont mean the one your local antifa chapter gave you

>performs better then a 9mm but is still good for a first gun

Forget this idea. It's dumb bullshit. You want a big manly caliber to feel like a big man because 9mm is for wimpy girls. But those big calibers perform worse because you perform worse. They develop bad habits that you won't fix because ammo is too expensive. Especially in a light plastic gun. Good first gun or big round. Pick one, you can't have both.

If you insist on getting something bigger than a 9mm, get a heavy steel gun, it will mitigate some of the problems with heavy calibers. CZ75s are a good choice.

>there's no "best caliber"

i guess when i say "best caliber"i really mean "the one thats not going to go through every wall of my apartment/home and kill people"

H&K are overpriced. They aren't much better then Sig, glock, Beretta or Smith and Weston

The idea with any defense gun is only needing one full magazine or a full cylinder. Wheel guns reload slower but pack a bigger punch. You put someone down with 45 colt rounds and you might only use 2.

You use a 9mm glock and you might not put them down with a full mag.

or in terms of that point,is it more ammo and not caliber

Anything over 9mm is enthusiast/hobbyist level or you're compensating for something (or both sometimes)

so pretty much,if im buying a .44 mag or .357 magnum revolver and not putting my target down within 6 shots.im doing something wrong?

but im not 100 percent against revolvers,i know they make speed loaders for them so i dont know,id have to actually shoot one and reload it with something like that to see if i like using it because i just dont like the whole having to reload it one round at a time

>compensating for something

thats usually what the anti gun crowd says

You fucking idiot. A Glock is a striker fire pistol. Just go fuck your self . What a fucktard. Don’t get a gun. You’ll just shoot yourself you fucking incel

any gauge shotgun with heavy game loads, #6 20Ga. is what i use. anything under 10 feet, which is what most home defense situations call for and the shot will not have even came out of the cup, so you'll be hitting the intruder full in the chest with a tight mass of lead pellets that will dispurse into them on impact, and if you miss and hit the drywall what comes out the other side won't have enough energy left to be lethal, at worst you will pepper any bystanders in that room with tiny bruises.

just go to wal mart and buy a .410 mossberg 500 and a box of pd shells, no wait/permit or other bs

It's personal preference. Personally I like the feel of loading one round at a time. It just feels cool and my inner little kid enjoys it more. And arguably yeah if you're not putting someone down with a magnum round you're doing something wrong.

357, 44, 45 long, 10mm... There's a lot of good ones. The reason I suggested the governor is it takes 45 acp, 45 long, and . 410 shotgun rounds. Plus all three of those rounds give you a lot of options for types of defense rounds. Like I have 410 slugs for human defense and 45 long hollow points for grizzlies. Shit is so cash

but what if i dont want a shotgun?

> .44

the only .44 non revolver ive seen is a desert eagle and ive heard alot of negative shit about desert eagles

Get a G19x, includes 2 19 rnd mags and a 17 rnd plus night sites. Its the best bang for your buck in a glock. After that, buy a caa roni mck. It turns your pistol into a little smg with whatever attachments you want. Its the setup i keep in my apartment.

Wtf is your photo???

I'm talking about revolvers.

then you're likely to kill anyone in an adjacent room if/when you miss.
maybe go with a .9mm and see if you can find some rubber rounds for it. it will floor most attackers and not be lethal.

the point you need to pay attention though, when it comes to reloading, in a self-defence scenario its a moot point.
if you reload and keep shooting, unless you missed with every single shot out of the last magazine, the lawyer trying to put you in jail will call out murder, and PROBABLY win.

>if you reload

ok...but your missing one thing

the fact, your going to be panicking because somebody is in your house or apartment, still alive.that could potential harm you

just seems like having a magazine that holds 17 rounds or whatever would be a faster way to reload then sticking 6 bullets in a gun 1 at a time.im not saying i think revolvers are shit for defense,im just saying the reloading is what i have a problem with

but considering the direction america is going,i wouldnt be suprised if id end up in jail either way.just seems like america is moving further and further anti gun

either way,im done with politics.im more concerned about the topic at hand then de railing this with a bunch of political crap

I support the second amendment but I've been around a lot of people who take gun ownership to the next level and that is my honest opinion. Most of them are decent enough if you're in their circle and respectable but they still act like they're compensating.

Go to a training class without a firearm, ammo, or any time at the range.... good call buddy

regardless,read

because id rather focus on the original topic then argue about politics

that's the problem though, in this instance, you kinda need to keep the politics in mind. yes, its bullshit that you could go to jail for defending your own home, but its a good idea to do whatever you can to avoid that actually happening.

yes? Most if not all places that offer training are, get this, at a range, that rents out guns and sells ammo. I prefer it when people don't buy guns with absolutely ZERO training....

fuck glock, get American, buy a ruger

well, that isnt the point of my post though.if you really want to get into politics, donald trump is horrible for gun rights.but i dont want to start a big political discussion i want to discuss glocks and stuff

oh right, the patriotic "buy american"bullshit,i dont care where the gun is made.im not buying some inferior product just so i can parade around saying i bought american

Ruger is hot dog shit. Don't listen to this retard.

of course im not listening to him,he sounds like the typical redneck "hurr durr, trump 2020.buy american! hire american! i love america so much id fuck the statue of liberty!

I just bought a 9mm with some home defense hollows. got a zore lock. don’t have any other guns.

No it's a terbal gun overall, and therefore a horrible first gun.

Get a 22lr as your first gun, then get a 9mm pistol as your first "real" gun.

>pic is of some "real" guns that would be a good 3rd gun once you become proficient with 9mm

Attached: 6df5822b-a1bc-47f8-8898-7970bdabbbd4_zps06d70344.jpg (1024x768, 159K)

as someone who's looking to be a first time gun owner, you NEED to be aware of that shit.
"Drrrr, imma buy a gun cuz muh second amendment but I don't care about the laws because fuck da politics!"
have fun in jail after you have to use it buddy.
also, the question is ABOUT as answered for you as its gonna get on Yea Forums.

fucking LOVE sig. most people cant get over the price though.

She's French, fyi..but I'd do her.

all im saying is,i dont want the point of this post to be derailed by politics, the reason i didnt put this on /pol/ is because 99 percent of the time, some retard like yourself will bring up politics and instead of this being about if .40 caliber glocks are good.it ends up turning into a "hurr durr trump" post

>have fun in jail

well,i know the laws.but i guess if you want.you can keep living in your fantasy world where the entire population of america follows every gun law

>HK
>Chambered in a Sig round

LOL

youre the one who brought up trump. not me. im not even getting political. im just talking about existing laws, and how they could be interpreted to screw you if you ever had to defend yourself. keeping you aware. as I said, your questions been answered. god forbid anyone adds some other ON TOPIC thinking points. fuck it. sorry I tried to help.

what if i just bought a 9mm glock and converted it to 40 caliber? is that possible,i remember somebody mentioning once you could convert something and be able to fire 2 different calibers of ammo

What about the 357sig or the 45gap? Maybe the 32acp

regardless,im done with bringing politics into this shit now.lets get back to the point of .40 caliber glocks

Thats a big gun jack i have a expert usp. I use it for practical o rings sucks tho

300 black out with subs will work fine. Thats about as much stoping power as you need

is /k/ getting fucking fumigated or something? Why the fuck are you niggers posting .40 related bait on Yea Forums?
No, any firearm chambered in .40 is not "good" because it's unnecessary and quickly becoming lost to history. For self/ home defense a 9mm is perfectly suitable, abundant, and affordable. Firing any firearm within an apartment building for any reason is incredibly dangerous to innocent bystanders; if you choose to live tightly packed in an urban environment get a taser or a baseball bat.

i guess i just figured posting it on here would actually get me legit advice.but it seems like it turned into a political fuckfest just like whenever i post on /k/

>unnecessary

please explain why, also.the "innocent bystanders"thing i figured would be solved with hollow point ammo

9mm luger/ 9mm/ 9×19/ 9mm parabellum/ omg any gun but a luger is gay for using a luger. Lol

I'm saying 9mm for a start, and if you come to enjoy shooting as a recreational thing you can "upgrade". Also cheaper in the short and long run.

Use fireworks they're more surprising

ok,but in terms of "upgrading" what would be the caliber not to look at in terms of worrying about over penetration? i dont mind 9mm its just i figured some calibers over penetrated more then others

although,if i was gonna buy anything after the 9mm pistol it would probably be something like an ar 15

You can only go down not up. Can't make a 9 a 40

Boi. Yes hollow points can expand, and usually penetrate less, but that depends on a million factors. They aren't some magic thing. Get a 9mm glock, and for the love of god, spend some more money on a light for the thing so you don't smoke your cat or girl friend. Oh. and get training too. Like from a reputable source.

No chance either way you will not be happy i have 380s 9s 40s 45s 38s 357mag and sig all just for carry hell i got a naa revoler in 22mag. Nothing is perfect each one does somthing well. Its like a screwdriver one might fit alot of screws well but you can always find one thats perfect but only works for one screw. 9mm is the swiss army knife of calibers and glock is the same. You hit someone with a vcrown or a talon at 21 feet or less in the chest they are done.

No one cares that you're USMC. Most vets I know are fucking clueless when it comes to handguns.

ok,so what if i bought a .40 and went down to a 9mm?

thats because jarheads dont use handguns in the field.they use either artillary or m4's

>he doesn't know they are H&Ks

Attached: lolgoodfellas.gif (230x175, 1.94M)

your gay is showing

That's doable.

For home self defense, BUY A SHOTGUN!

.40 blows go 9 or 45

>45
Lol

Strictly 45gap

wouldnt 9 be a downgrade to 40?

1911 master race, 3.5 inch.

metal frame CHECK
pistol-whip able? CHECK
single stack? CHECK
crisp trigger? CHECK
big lookin barrel? CHECK
two active safeties? CHECK

It's the ultimate chad gun, anyone who disagrees is a pussy. oh muh capacity, protip you don't need that much ammo in a sidearm

Oh muh 2nd shot ability, protip with the trigger on a 1911 i'll be able to fire off rounds so much faster and on target than any glockfag

OP, just go to a gun range and rent a gun and put a box of ammo down range. A .38 revolver or a 9mm automatic would be a good place to start if you've never fired a gun before. Any manufacturer. You can then refine your taste in manufacturers and calibers as you put more rounds down range.

>CZ 75B
Got mine in .40S&W. Never regretted one bit, cuts holes out the bullseye.

>chad gun

cringe

my whole issue with "going to a gun range and renting a gun" is.sure,i could rent something like a .45 or 9mm but i want to rent something that if i wanted to buy it,will be practical for what i want,i dont want to rent something.shoot it,like it.buy it and then end up with something thats bad for what i want to do

also,i wouldnt say ive "never fired a gun before".i have, but they've never been handguns, ive fired a shotgun before

I guess go with a .380. Not exactly ideal but it will get the job done.

I understand. Once you find a weapon that you like and are comfortable firing, you can then purchase one.

so even if it would be something like a .45 or higher caliber,if i liked it and am comfortable with it.does it really matter if its higher caliber then a 9mm?

Never liked Glock.
This part comes back and hurts the hand.

Attached: 1561945099982.jpg (1155x1155, 70K)

Yea but a fucking real highbrow one like a 1908 browning. Just screams hipster carry.

a valid option, but most people go with the 9mm, simply because ammo's cheaper.

Thats a limp wrist issue. Do you have childs hands? Or do you cross thumbs?

If its:
A. Comfortable for you to fire
B. Affordable
C. Something you can shoot the same way almost every time
Then go for it

>not going for a colt .380
Pleb

If you prefer a .45, then get one. You are the one in the end that will be firing and cleaning and maintaining it.

Either you need to stop putting your thumb there or you have big hands.

i guess maybe i should rephrase this to

"if im comfortable with it and like it more then a lower caliber.would it still be realiable for what i want to do and not fire holes through my walls and hit bystanders i dont want to hit"

>is a .40 caliber glock a good pistol for small apartment/self defense if its your first handgun

absolutely not.

or would this be more of an issue that ammo would solve and not the caliber of the gun?

Im a retard idk why i thought it was a browning. It fucking says colt right in tbe gips.

Attached: 1557082429783.jpg (300x168, 10K)

Yo what? Im not the idiot geting slide bite. Im fucking insulated now.

gun discord discord / hr25gu

Fuck im a idiot but im now i also dont retain heat.

The problem there is that any caliber can go through apartment walls. Anyone that says "this caliber won't" is lying. In the end, would you rather have to use your weapon and possibly save your life or your loved ones life, or have no weapon and know your not going to unintentionally hurt someone outside of your residence. If the latter is a major concern, I would recommend you not get a gun.

>what about what i was saying though? lets forget the whole .40 cal thing for a minute here, would there be no other option for me besides 9mm? i dont really have a problem with 9mm but i just want something with a little bit more power to it

Go with a revolver then. Get a .357 magnum, you can shoot .38 specials in it for cheaper practice ammo., and then load it up with the magnums for home defense.

At the end of the day, a revolver is more reliable than a semi-auto is, and you don't have to rack the slide to chamber a round, just get a double action revolver and squeeze the trigger.

>would you rather have to use your weapon and possibly save your life or your loved ones life

this,BUT.i would rather be confident in the fact that using my weapon to save my life or my loved ones life doesnt mean that im going to fire a bunch of rounds that could potentially go through my walls and harm bystanders that i dont want to harm

>innocent bystanders"thing i figured would be solved with hollow point ammo
Go try it. Right now. If you have a buddy who has some land, go out in a field or behind the garage or something and build a small section of residential wall out of 2x4s and drywall, and then shoot it with some hollow points. I've done exactly this, and I'm willing to bet if you do so too, you will not suggest what you are suggesting again.
>unnecessary
unnecessary in that a caliber between 9mm and .45 is not necessary; 9mm and .45 offer plenty of variety to meet shooter's preferences. When it comes to ammo, how the round performs is only half the battle. The cost/ availability of a round, determined by popularity, is the other half. .40 is a dying round because it's not that much different from 9mm or .45, and there's already a shit load of .45 and especially 9mm available.

what about a .357 sig? ive brought up my issue with revolvers before but before i make any serious decision i think im gonna plan on at least shooting a .44 magnum or .357 revolver with a speedloader

>You are liable for any damage a stray bullet causes.

Actually in states with decent self defense laws, you are not liable for stray rounds that are fired in a legal self defense situation.

M8 it takes jack shit to kill anything, .22lr is good enough to kill any unarmored individual and it's cheap, want some more power 9mm hollow point thing shreds flesh, also .40 what a joke you might as well get a .45

Mean to respond to the other guy. curious as to how slide bite can happen though considering that curve is there to prevent that.

Meant to respond to the other guy. curious as to how slide bite can happen though considering that curve is there to prevent that.

Fuck this website on mobile sucks

I was talking about a colt mustang xsp but okay

This whole "certain calibers don't over-penetrate" thing is delightfully rarted.
Do this and you will see. Even a tiny .22 will drill right through drywall. If you have neighbors on the other side of your wall, you might very well kill them firing at an intruder.
It's much more important to choose a caliber you feel most comfortable shooting and train with it regularly, whether that be a .357 magnum or a .22 lr. In the highly unlikely event you are compelled to shoot someone on the way from the shitter at your mom's house where you live to your epic gamer den, just use a handgun caliber you have trained with and are ***comfortable shooting*** so you hit your mark and hope all the shots you miss because your hand was slathered in lotion and cum from jacking off to furry incest porn dig into a 2x4 or some brick somewhere along their journey.

Attached: 1552706906442.jpg (405x720, 32K)

so even if i lived in some place like an apartment, and stray rounds would happen to be fired through my walls into another person's apartment next door? if it was a legal self defense situation, even if i harmed somebody i wouldnt be liable? i guess i just assumed i would because it doesnt sound right in the scenario im thinking

.357 Sig isn't a very common round. Tbh I am not very familiar with it, other than knowing that it is very different that a .357 magnum round is.

It depends upon the state that you are in, you do need to check your state laws, and local laws as well, (if local governments are allowed to pass firearm restriction laws.)

Like I said, if you fire your weapon inside your residence, unless you hit an appliance, a wall stud, or possibly a body, it's going through a wall or a door (solid wood door MIGHT be an exception based on caliber) or a window. If you are really in fear for your life, your lawyer will probably get you off for any bullets that might accidentally strike someone or something. Again I would recommend going to a firing range or to the country where you can shoot at different substances at different ranges and seeing for yourself the results of said calibers.

Want to know what isn't a common round? .41 magnum. Just about every store I go to doesn't have it, I don't know if its just where I'm at or if I'm retarded

Jesus christ shut the fuck up you kike, it's the RANDOM board. ANY topic can be mentioned here. Seriously kill yourself newfag

Personally I do not like Glocks, so I wouldn't own one of them. They do not fit my hand well, don't care for the balance on them, the only time I fired one it jammed on the second shot, and I prefer to have an external hammer.

External hammer with both a single action and double action trigger, is ideal. You don't carry it cocked until you are ready to fire, and after the first shot, it switches over to being single action.

Get a semi-auto with a decocking lever as well, so you don't have to worry about the hammer slipping under your thumb when decocking it, and having negligent discharge.

Sig Sauer makes great pistols, pick one that fits your hand well.

It's not very common, but it's by far the best personal defense round by the elite operators.

>lower recoil than 40 s&w
>45 ACP +P greater power
>flat shooting
>reliable feeding
>40 s&w capacity

It can be hard to find, and is usually priced around 45 ACP, the defensive hot shit is the same price as any other caliber. It is extremely loud and has a big flashy blast, but if you're competent with normal handguns you should take a look at it. If you can shoot it well there is not reason your main defensive carry should be 357 sig.

Well, that all depends upon the construction of the residence. A house built out of cinder blocks or bricks, will do a pretty good job of stopping a pistol round. A wood frame house with this aluminum siding, likely won't do much to stop a pistol round.

Ahh, I did not know that, ty user.

All Carry Guns need to loaded...you gonna put on a seat belt right before the accident?

Also all you 9 mm fans...you must sit while peeing.. .45 the only way to go

ive mainly looked at glocks,i wouldnt mind another brand and in terms of sig sauer ive actually looked at the .45 caliber p220 legion they have

>Want to know what isn't a common round? .41 magnum.

Basspro has 7 selections for it.

9mm is cheaper and the advances in ballistics make it the most practical all around cartridge.
This also makes .40s cheap and plentiful, and all pistol cartridges are fairly close so .40 isnt that awful, but it does have a bit more kick and is more expensive
shooting a glock 17/19 is way more fun then a 22/23 IMO

Agreed. But OP said he lived in an apartment, so I was going with that.

So I was both retarded and in the wrong place

Lol found the fudd. 45 is bullshit 9mm is chad skull penetrator. Get yourself a g19 for home defense OP. Shorter barrel, good capacity with the double stack mags. Don’t overthink it.

so TDRL the tiny guns jam more and are a bitch to shoot, while a full sized glock is easier and doesnt jam as much

no shit

sure. Also it has superior barrier penetration, through things like light barriers like car doors and things like that. It stays intact and punches through windshields better than other rounds. It's why the secret service and other elite law enforcement carry guns in it.

OK now to respond to the people speaking as to .40 ammo being hard to find etc.

On BassPro's website, under Handgun ammo.:

.40 S&W has 48 to choose from.
.45 ACP has 39, .45 Auto has 10, .45 Auto +P has 3.
9mm Luger has 51, +P has 1.
.357 Sig has 10
.357 Magnum has 28
.38 Special has 29, and +P has 4
10 mm has 11
.380 ACP has 32

So, I certainly wouldn't say that the selection of .40 ammunition, is at all lacking, or showing any signs of dying out.

If you can get the ammo, there is literally no reason to carry 40 short and weak over God's caliber, .357 Sig.

I think that you misread what I wrote. I prefer a semi auto, with an external hammer, that I don't leave the hammer cocked on of course, but one in the chamber is fine.

I dislike the so called striker fired pistols, with their very long trigger pull, that if it misfires, you can't just squeeze the trigger and try again, before having to rack the slide to eject it, because you can't pull the trigger again and have it actually try to hit the firing pin etc.

Sigs are great, just be aware that the full sized guns, have pretty big grips, at least the P226 does.

I was just pointing that out as a possible place to order it online from, since you were having problems finding it. That doesn't mean that the local store actually has that many in stock. Stock carried at Bass Pro, varies from store to store.

>short and weak
>always going for center mass body shots instead of vital organs or the neck/head
>trust me i'm an expert

Attached: 1561219008752.jpg (320x240, 56K)

.40 is duing/dead

Id agree but there's no reason for both of us to look stupid.

You're liable for every
Piece of metal after the bang.

i figured that but some states have laws like stand your ground or castle doctrine which makes it so where they wouldnt send you to jail just because you pumped a guy who broke into your house full of bullets

i understand if it was innocent bystanders.since thats alot of my concern when it comes to caliber and over penetration

I have a three Glock's all gen 1 17,19 & 21...13 rounds of .45 rules every time

Schoold out...go pee sitting down

Louisiana rapper YoungBoy Never Broke Again has been targeted in a shooting in Miami that left a bystander dead and his girlfriend injured.

The rapper, 19-year-old Kentrell Gaulden, was fired on from a Cadillac Escalade as he left Trump International Beach Resort. Kaylyn Marie Long was hit in the shooting, while another bullet grazed a five-year-old child. Members of the rapper’s entourage returned fire, accidentally killing a 43-year-old bystander, Mohamad Jradi.

A Miami police spokesperson, Alvaro Zabaleta, said no one from Gaulden’s party would face charges over the killing, as they were shooting in self-defence.

I have two Sig P226's, both in .40, they shoot great. The whining about the recoil being too hard, is amusing, they don't kick badly at all.

lol,i dont care about some nigger rapper

Pepper spray will keep you sane on social media.
Only a racist wants the kill innocent black men.

legalinsurrection.com/2013/10/south-carolina-father-wins-self-defense-immunity-in-shooting-of-bystander/

A father in South Carolina who fired his handgun in self-defense–and in the process killing an apparent innocent bystander–has successfully argued that he is not subject to criminal or civil liability under the state’s self-defense immunity law.

South Carolina’s self-defense immunity statute–§16-11-450. Immunity from criminal prosecution and civil actions; law enforcement officer exception; costs.–is essentially identical to Florida’s self-defense immunity statute currently under legislative review (as covered by Legal Insurrection here)–§776.032. Immunity from criminal prosecution and civil action for justifiable use of force.

Well, while I am glad another rapper is dead, his entourage shot and killed one innocent bystander, and wounded a second, and they are immune due to firing in self defense.

>YOU HIT THAT GUY!!!
He shouldn't have been standing there.

Attached: 1501812240009.png (263x191, 7K)

define self defense

also, race plays a big part in it to.not everybody has the luxury of having sjw movement behind them

>define self defense

self defense is defined by the state legislature. the definition does vary from state to state. Virginia for example, has horrible self defense laws, with a mandatory duty to retreat if at all possible. Rare for a Southern state to have laws that poor.

that was my point, you brought up the point of "they are immune due to firing in SELF DEFENSE".you never thought about the fact that self defense could mean alot of things.look at what happened in florida after george zimmerman for a perfect example of my point about how being immune due to firing in self defense doesnt really matter

I agree. for Men like us recoil is no problem but just not cost effective unless you reload( I do)

have two firdes with your same gun...Craftmas ship is off the hook hook/perfect as are the ergonimics. I have big hands and the glock suits me perfectly...I was told this when I was a kid..the best gun is the one you shoot the best with Fuck what everyone else said...Gun Control is Hitting your Target !

Attached: sept.jpg (3264x2448, 1.73M)

Actually Florida changed the law after the Zimmerman fiasco, to make it perfectly clear that the prosecutors that were playing games with saying that you had to have a stand your ground hearing, which was a mini-trial, is clearly against the laws in the state of Florida.

Zimmerman's attorney, Mark O'Mare, decided at the time to not bother to request that they have a stand your ground immunity hearings, since he believed that due to the huge pressure from the liberal trash media, that the judge would deny it and make him go through a criminal trial irregardless.

Current Self Defense laws in the State of Florida, do not allow local prosecutors that are anti-gun, to force people into absurd hearings that have no basis in the actual passed laws.

Current State of Florida laws also do not allow any local governments to pass ANY restrictions upon firearms, all gun laws come from the state legislature, and are uniform across the state due to that.

This. Don't need to be accurate with a 12 gauge loaded with buckshot. My dad was district attorney in a large county and that was our home defense gun. Alternating .00 buck with slugs

I dont know

yeah,i know they cucked out and changed the laws after the zimmerman thing.i would be more concerned about trump and democrats right now when it comes to guns and on a federal level then some stupid local goverment

George was a hero and acquitted.

i guess, but they still attacked gun rights because of it.the whole stand your ground thing

This would depend on if you've done a lot of shooting. If you haven't done a lot a 45 ACP is going to teach you bad habits because of the recoil.

9 would be best. It's cheaper to practice with and you'll get more rounds out of it. Raw power doesn't equal more protection. You want the most rounds you can get with stopping power. In personal defense bullet design is more important.

You shouldn't just buy a gun though, you should really shoot what you're looking at because you could purchase a gun that feels weird in your hand and regret it.

They improved the laws to protect the shooter, in self defense situations, after the whole Zimmerman thing. He never should have been charged in the first place. I drove down to the courthouse for a victory lap, after they announced the verdict, I was so happy.

Got a huge kick out of seeing all of the whiny ass protesters, that were heading home with their heads down, all mopey and crying, while trying to walk by the light of the cell phone flashlights lol.

based

This. Or a shotgun.

OP here. Thanks to everyone for the advice. One last question: when I dildo the gun barrel up my ass do I need to clean the gun after? Should I just put a condom over the barrel?

condom.
gunpowder residue is nasty, and the oils used to keep it clean can fuck you up pretty good.
