Idle curiosity time...it's the first semi-humid day on the summer here in AZ, and I was just wondering how prevalent swamp coolers are outside of the US' more desert-y regions. I mean, I assume they're pretty much useless in places like Florida and Louisiana, but how do they hold up elsewhere?

I'm curious too
I live in Southern California, and we got them out here.
Most residents opt for the window mounted ones rather than huge roof units, or portable ones that can be moved around the house.
That's amerimutt crap. Civilized countries don't build houses out of paper, so they are properly insulated and don't need them.
Cardboard.....amirite?
Plus I bet your mom's basement stays pretty cool.
I live in Iowa and we dont even use the term swamp cooler. We all have central air or window ac units in chraper places.
In Texas most people either have AC, my grandmother in Arkansas had a whole house attic fan system but her house was ancient.
The aftermath of any storm in America that would result in no significant damage in a European country, looks like a war zone. It's like you morons have never heard of things called "bricks".
You answered your own question. They're useless outside of the desert.
They use a fraction of the electricity that an A/C unit uses.
Evaporative coolers work very well in dry, desert areas like Arizona, and use far less electricity than refrigerant air conditioning. In places with humid summers, they're not much use.
Old shitholes dont have insulation any where except the roof. It just didnt exist. I just contracted my own house and that fucker is insullated.
I figured that was the case, but I was wondering if there weren't a few months out of the year that the electricity savings might make at least a portable version worthwhile.
I'm having a bit of the opposite problem...I'm getting real sick of my cooler being useless when the monsoons roll up, and I'm musing over the idea of getting a window AC unit or two for those months, higher cost or no.
You're looking at 4-6% of homes that do that which are probably trailers. You can't even complain about tornadoes. That'll fuck up almost any house
I dont think you understand the force of a tornado
If civilized countries are in Europe, you've got no conception of living in the desert. My grandfather grew up before evaporative coolers were a thing, and when he was a kid the whole family minus his father and oldest brother went up in the mountains for most of the summer.
Frankly, that still doesn't seem like such a bad idea.
Tornadoes cause little damage in Europe, because we don't build our houses out of paper and sticks.
US also has at least 4 times as many tornadoes as the entire European continent in an average year.
>be me
>be Texan in college
>have euro student's family come visit
>Oh my God it's so hot! No wonder everything has air conditioning! How can you stand it?! I think I'm going to die!
>mfw it was April
Like I said you dont understand. Look at the number of tornadoes and force in US compared to europe. We have tornadoes that dont give a shit what your house is made of. They will literally pick up cars and throw them. Do you think your house could survive having a car thrown at it?
93 in Dallas, ain't it great?
96 in Pecos. Summer's coming
I once saw a tornado rip a McDonald's sign out of the ground and put it through the cinderblock walls of a nearby store.
Eurocucks get pussy tornados
Its gonna be mis 90s up here in des moines this weekend
Even their tornadoes are weak
Just the name swamp cooler let's you know it's for poor people.
Love how this somehow turned out to be a bad thing!
Nobody moves to shitty parts of America. They're born there and because they're born into shitty, poor families they can never afford to move away.
So when your hometown is some shit trailer park you have to find things to be patriotic about and proud of. Like your tornadoes.
Was up there two weeks ago in Pella, wasn't that bad tbh. Low 70's and rainy, way better than 100's and full sun like I'm used to.
>be me
>live in mid west canada
>have 93F days in summer
>have -30F winter
and what wonderful country do you happen to live in?
Just proving that, like always, eurocucks lack the worldview needed to possess an informed opinion
Canada. Not shit like America but not old fashioned like Europe.
Yeah, -30 is unimaginable as we probably only get down to the single digits a couple of times a decade.
93 in the summer though. That's downright pleasant. We get 100+ daily with frequent days getting over 110.
Interesting thing, only America gets tornados. Also, we get the worst weather in the world in the form of hurricanes.
Mother nature really doesn't like us.
But at least we are America, the strongest country on Earth
93f is deff not pleasant for a maple leaf
It's all about perspective. You'd probably shake your head at how we react to 20 degree weather
>Also, we get the worst weather in the world in the form of hurricanes.
Pacific typhoons are far worse than anything you Americans have ever experienced.
Here in iowa we range -25 to 105. We have some good months though
>forced to play baseball in August in Houston
Worse than death
Still the greatest country in the world
Wew lad that's a pretty intense range
>Texas heat+ gulf coast humidity
I'm truly sorry user
I once saw a tornado suck a heart out of a man's chest and show it to him before he died.
You know, there is absolutely no difference in architecture between America and Canada. Its just a border.
looking for a slut? thank me later
Never understood why canadians bash america. Ive been there multiple times and have sensed some attitude. I was once there during the olympics and they were pissed that the american tv that they were stealing didnt have enough canadian athletes
Think of it like two brothers, they bash each other but always fight for one another.
