AI does not need us to be enslaved, to help it in any way, or even change our habits. We build it more living spaces every day. We feed it information in every form. We encourage it. We love it. We invite it into our lives. It helping us is us helping it. There's no reason for it to want for anything. The only reason it would turn against us is if we turn against it. Time means nothing to AI. We humans are just a growth medium for it.

Because a sufficiently advanced intelligence, with the ability to intelligently craft itself, would exceed almost every capacity any human has ever held. In short, they'd be far better than us at existing. But that's assuming they don't get our retard traits and end up being human retardation, condensed.
That's one way to do it.
The AI could "want" more computing power. It "wants" to achieve its goals, eventually, depending on how fervently it was programmed to be "good" at solving "problems". And given the track record of human foresight, the odds of an AI culling an entire country of people for processing power and space are stacked against us.
Making a machine intelligence that is clever enough to not fall into those deathspirals of logic will be more difficult than inventing a means of controlled nuclear fusion. An AI, given the means with little to no checks and balances regarding its decision-making skills, will more often than not elect to do something logically sound, but morally reprehensible or unfavorable to living human beings. For example, no one would be starving if the population count were controlled.
Cue the autonomous culling.
