Luckily, once you get the degree, you rarely need to actually use math at that level of complexity. And even then, once you formulate the complex equations, you hand it over to a math major and say "Solve this".

So it comes down to socioeconomics. How many of you people have full scholarships? Or money to pay for college? Or fancy going into dept until you’re 30? Now there’s a push for higher education to make engineering positions more competitive and justify the high cost of tuition when back in my day, you could become an engineer without a bachelors degree from a tech college. Couple that with fewer minorities being accepted into college than whites, there’s the disparity. And don’t be fooled, no child left behind and minority quotas are a fuckin urban myth when it comes to minority acceptance into college. Now if you want to believe the reason for this is black people are “statistically” of lower intelligence while claiming the mantle of superior, that’s on you. But the reality is much simpler. I attended public school in a school district where roughly 30-40 percent of students were black or Hispanic. This is anecdotal of course, but I think it’s because they really don’t want to learn in school. They certainly didn’t act like they were thirsting for knowledge, mostly disruptive and disrespectful to teachers.

I’m a civil engineer and I had to take 4 semesters of calculus and the differential equations. Hardest classes I had to take and never used them again in real life
work. The hardest math I ever used is slopes, rise/run. Maybe a little interpolation when doing drainage valve but that’s it. Software does all the math for you so all you gotta do is get through the coursework in college.

You have no idea how much it drove me up the wall when people were shamed for being "white" (AKA literally caring for their grades, how the presented themselves, had interests other than being a "gangsta" etc). it's all for-profit, so they aren't incentivized to give the highest-quality education, just what they can get you into paying for. i had a college course where you had to get the newest edition of a linear algebra book that was 140 bucks - you HAD to, because the GRADED HOMEWORK was from it. nobody has *needed* to re-write a linear algebra textbook since the 1950s, it's all to make money.
- there is the occasional poor kid that is smart and that wants to work hard. they end up fucked, which isn't fair. i'm not denying that they are rare, but they do exist
- there is NO control on the curricula of private schools. this is why they are allowed to teach you that dinosaurs are a myth, and that the earth is 6000 years old, and that you are the same as a rapist if you ever even consider masturbating, while charging you money out the ass.

there is no solution, we'll just have to deal with shitty people for a few more generations until things slowly get better to where the slums aren't slums anymore. things naturally get better in general, provided there isn't some disaster like a civil war or something, which is unlikely in the US, or a huge demographic change like the baby boom (or enormous influx of unskilled refugees/migrants).

The real trouble you can get in education is when you dont have that network, pushing you onwards. Aunts, Mums, Dads, Grandpas, everyone telling you - you can do it.

I tutored entrance level computer programming for a while. Lots of people who easily can do it. But usually they are the first "in there family to go to college" and you can see doubt creep in in those first days and months. They look around and dont realize that they are not alone. Everybody plays it cool - and of course there are those with a headstart, mum is a prof, dad a doctor, who dont appear at all, or only to show off.

And then they disappear. The truth is - its hard work, you have to be a endurance runner for it. Race has nothing to do with it. Where mostly white kids at my college, but some of the others where bright as fuck - hope they do well out there.
