And that’s not even considering that high-level special ed students and children below about 7th grade will never be able to do school completely online. Their activities are too hands-on. Classes such as science, art, music, and even social studies require direct one-on-one and materials-based lessons that cannot be completed remotely in any useful or interesting way.

School will never be successful as an entirely online medium.

We are not really lagging behind comparatively when you look at regions with similar demographics. Yes, we are lagging behind Sweden and Germany and Japan overall, but when you compare regions of European nations that have a similar number of African students to regions of America, we are comparable.

That’s the biggest reason that they do “better” than us. Their demographics lack the most challenging class of students. But we do similarly when comparing regions with similar numbers of poor and African children. That’s the biggest underlying factor. It’s not that our schools are bad.

Like for a kid? Mostly their luck in birth status and how able they are to cope with adversity. Kids with excessive learned helplessness rarely go on to succeed even if they were born rich. But more often than not it’s parent involvement that makes the biggest impact. If they parents care about them and get them to care about learning and being successful they have a good chance of being successful. If not then they’ll be mediocre.

1.Decreasing teacher pay and status, the job isn't attractive for enthusiastic or smart people anymore . Studied stem and came across of some aspiring teachers, half of them just did it for the realitively safe job afterwards and dragged through their course with mediocre grades at best. Also, stem students who noticed that a full stem degree study is too hard, weaseled out and enlisted for the easier teacher courses.
2. To few teachers for too many school children, often due to underfunding. Even if you are a good teacher, 40 kids is just too much and won't work.
3. Entitlement. I am 30 and I remember when I got shit grades my parents made me responsible for itvand beat my ass to work more. Nowadays it's the teachers fault, which is absurd. With this mindset kids never learn from their mistakes and become entitled little assholes. I don't know where this comes from tho, as it is a recent change.
