I just got back from FBX in Los Angeles and found the SAME fucking finger box set my granddad used to have. I've been looking for this set for like, fucking 15 years ever since his old place robbed.

Found the set of 4 at a garage sale for mega cheap, was able to bargain them down to 300 flat, they even threw in a polishing kit and surface shield. I didn't want to use the chemicals because I thought they would react with the materials and destroy them, but luckily, the Box forums told me that it was safe. My set has never looked better, tbh

The polishing kit and the surface shield is redundant for the synthetic chassis, all you need is the shield. DO NOT USE THE POLISHING CHEMICALS AS IT WILL SCUFF THE SHELL>
Other than that, I think synthetic is fine for the purpose of display, rather than daily use.
Are you talking about Moнтюпe sets? I know they had limited runs for the holidays in 73 and 86 and had an early reprint in the early 2000's... I didn't know they stopped because of 9/11...I thought they stopped because of shipping costs... fuck that would explain a lot though.

Agreed. You need traditional wood if you're going to use it on the daily. I don't get the same feel with synthetic. My ex girlfriend tried to get a polished resin one for my birthday back in october... I keep it on display for when she comes by, but other than that, I just want to chuck it in the bin,

YES, their build quality was absolutely fantastic, and launch distances were incredible. They did do a limited run for the 87-90 echelon print, which is what my set is. Yeah, their commerce crew of 25 all died when the tower collapsed, so they named each set of 4 after every member of the crew that perished in that tragedy. Mine was the Minka set. GOD I wish I had a camera for good pictures of it.
It was nice of her to get you the resin, those aren't cheap, but I can't get past the smell of mine. It's like, a hint of overripe banana, because of the sealer that they used.
