Getting a professor position is extremely hard. Only 2-5% of people interested in this position get it. I've been slaving away for years for 60-70h / week in order to have a shot but my publication record isn't good enough.

Generally a degree is useless unless you have certs or a good amount of industry experience but a PhD? No way in hell that wouldn't impress recruiters looking for low to mid tier management especially at a low experience job. At the very least its likely you would find a really good mentorship program especially in industrial work just because of your education (as long as you'd be willing to follow through a fellowship program and get your certs).

This minimum wage thing was supposed to be a transient solution while I find a more permanent position. But that took much longer than expected. I could also always go back to a postdoc position which are of course better paid but are exploitative (60-70h / wk are normal) and lead to nothing.
