Does anyone know who I'm talking about? He's a modern, current artist with his own website but I can't for the life of me remember his name, Google too easily confuses him with James Audubon.

No, it's very modern looking and weird. He uses the colors blue and red a lot. He did a series of paintings promoting condom use which are what I have seen most often posted of him.

The work does feel impressionistic but it's not "unclear", just very weird. Every time I try to look him up google wants to say Jasper Johns or James Audubon which are both wrong because they came way before. I swear it's something with a J.
I especially like the heavily purple ones, his eyes were damaged and as a result lost some of the ability to see red but could see part of the ultraviolet spectrum normally invisible to humans. Naturally it's extremely purple, he died a few years after this I think.

I'm here. The Joel stuff is kinda enjoyable but it's not him. Though I think he did have one asian parent, from his appearance he looked half asian, half white. Very white name though, I just can't bloody remember it. Less cartoonish, he's very much an American modern artist. Joel's compositions are similar but this guy uses way more color, way more western art. Few women or even humans in most works, the condom thing was some kind of commission or charity work?

years ago, SBS in Australia used to show weird shit on a Saturday night. i never found out who made this, or even what it was called.
simple line drawings and simple animation; an old couple living in a shack near a river. every morning the man would go out and pan for gold, then he'd come home and show the woman what he'd found. at the same time every evening their cuckoo clock would go off (although there were no sound effects), and a little hopping thing would come out and do something different each time; take a shit off the clock platform, or get its head cut off with a little guillotine. when this happened, the man would go over to the door of the hut, open it; this strange, haunting violin and banjo theme would start playing and a train would rush past the door, then he'd close it.
this happened a couple of times, and then one day the man came back and he hadn't found any gold; the railway was coming through, and they'd ordered him off the land. when the clock alarm went off, he was too sad to open the door... the music rose to a frantic pitch and the train smashed into the hut, knocking it into the sky, where that little thing from inside the clock chased it into the distance, jumping from cloud to cloud.

I stopped painting when my father was murdered and haven't been able to do anything for years. I'm going to walk to the gas station at 6am when it opens for more alcohol. I even drove away my two best friends by threatening their lives, I got so embarassed I did that I just walked off and haven't talked to them since January. I have nobody. Paint's probably dried up in it's tubes by now away. I'm just a lame ass impressionist anyway, I couldn't touch the realist surrealism of the guy who's name I have burned out of my own brain on accident. This one is close, but the style is a touch "newer", green is almost never used with a focus on blue, red, black and white. His work feels designed for lithography despite the lack of a need for that now.
