He is a great man, he really stood for equality such as workers' rights and women's rights and probably gay rights as well, I'm not sure if that was a thing back then but whatever. He is often demonized in the corporate media in the US (which are all far-right if not outright fascist), because he dealt with the enemy. They pretend like he killed innocent people, but back then many were fascists or otherwise anti-revolution. So they condemn him for standing up for the oppressed. He is a very principled man, very dedicated to the cause, but most ppl listen to the Western propaganda which fails to mention that he was on the right side of WWII and enabled the civil rights movement.

tbh I'm a fascist and I like Stalin. The dude did a lot to modernize the Soviet Union and purged the shittiest elements of the Communist Party while he was at it. His only big misstep was fighting with the capitalists against the Axis, but I get that there were historical circumstances that forced him to do so.

You know that the western countries like the US only accepted payment for international trade with russia in the form of crops. This means, if stalin would have stopped exporting crops during the famine, he would have had to stop the industrialization of russia, which would have thrown the country back for more than a decade of development (as all the development up to this point is useless if you dont industrialize fully, and all the costs up to this point wouldn't have been gotten back).
This would result overall, by taking live expectancy before and after the industrialization into account, more casulties than the famine did. So basically he had the choice between letting many people starve over a short period, or letting much more people starve over a longer period.
If you want to know whos the arsehole in this story, ask the US and UK. They knew about the famine, but insisted on only beeing paid in crops, especially because of the famine. These oh so great countries have willingly accepted and enforced that so many people starve, just because they where afraid of the russians, as they where the fastest industrializing county at the time, they even industrialized faster than germany.
But cold war capitalist propaganda did it's job to completely wash the hands of the western nations clean
