Protip: put your beers in the bottom of the cooler, and cover them with ice. Sprinkle salt over top of the ice, and after about 30 minutes, enjoy some super cold delicious beer.
For food, brats are a great, easy option, as are burgers.
Finally, clean up after yourself. I host cookouts often, and although my friends are relatively clean, I usually end up with empty or half empty beer cans everywhere.
