Meh, today. Old WW2 tanks are badass tho. Heavy, dirty, diesel spewing monsters...
They are wonderful tools for compensation.
They are great for rolling over protesters !
So when you Commies finally vote in your President like Bernie Sanders or some shit like him and he breaks the country’s back and you then realize you fucked up but people are now protesting? That’s when you use these on those freedom loving bastards !
obsolete.
why
They make me erect
Hello!
That's actually the old style high profile CROWS turret.
Pic related is the current model
I think tanks are a pretty cool guy and they doesn't afraid of anything
Because they're being replaced by smart weapons. There is no need to have tanks on battlefields any more. Plus they're too expensive. Its just not viable. These are the last days of tanks.
True. I'm looking forward to being able to buy a demilitarized M1 some time in the next 50 years.
Beautiful
They gey
You can buy a T-72 for $140k.
I could not disagree more. They are being supplemented by smart weapons, no question there. But they are still impervious to small arms and require specialized equipment to deal with. If used correctly in large numbers tanks are an extremely powerful battlefield weapon. How are smart weapons going to engage a tank if it has dedicated air cover and integrated air defense?
11 years in the army as a tanker. Love/hate relationship with them
Yeah but I'm kind of a "buy American" kinda dude.
I worked with a tanker. He was stone fucking deaf.
>knows nothing about warfare
I'm halfway there
Ghey. Yellow Army for life
This guy tanks
Air superiority is number one in any war. If you don't have that, you're hopeless. A tank isn't going to take out a helicopter or jet or incoming ballistic missile.. Its a giant metal sitting duck. The only time its usefull really is supporting ground troop and fighting other tanks.. but like I said, that can be done in other ways that are a lot cheaper and more effective.
i was a tanker for 3 years.
it was a lot of heavy lifting and maintenance.
I got to shoot the main gun many times, but was it worth it?
>be 19k
>shoot tank
>???
>profit
SABOT UP!!!
19k? You old as fuck nigga.
It does ground fighting and maneuver warfare far better than anything else. A drone can't occupy territory.
There is a reason every army in the world operates tanks
19D 90 - 98
>never heard of an MPAT round
It's still 19k
An APC can do that.
You're debating some retard that doesn't know shit about warfare bro
death before dismount. 13B here I do love me some 155s
> ARE obsolete
> are GOING TO BE replaced
fag, learn to shitpost
You're welcome.
An APC can't sling HE at long range.
Nor can it shrug off anything larger than a 23mm if it's well armored at that.
IFVs were used to a great effect during the Gulf War, Bradley's had more tank kills than M1s. But the technological difference between the armies were so substantial the result isn't too surprising, thermal optics and GPS kind of ruined Saddams day.
I know I know. I've got nothing better to do anyways
An APC can't do that dummy. That's why they're APCs. Because their function is to carry troops and provide close fire support. Playing battlefield doesn't really teach you anything
as arty I really love my scouts. they were our QRFs back in OEF12-13
>death before dismount
cringe. I dismounted plenty in Iraq.
I think tanks a pretty cool guy.
He shoots bad guys and doesn't afraid of anything.
Tank me leter
I miss Saddam tbh. He was a perfectly hateable dictator from a much simpler time.
I was a 19k and fuck that death before dismount. I'll let that motherfucker burn to the ground
are you retarded? Saddam's tanks went down before they were even in range with tanks... look up the largest tank battle in history... pick up a book
It's still called 19K, zoomer fag
You can just youtube the history channel propaganda piece about it. it's pretty ok.
Wasn't even really that terrible. I mean he was but going into the second Iraq war he already had his hands full with Al Qaeda and was originally asking the US for help.
that's a shocker cause I never seen a tank in Afghanistan and every tanker I've seen worked the TOC and they were literally fat as fuck with their gut hanging over their combat T... shit is disgusting.... no standards...
I got to call in the dug in t-54s and watch the a10s eat em up in Deserst Sheild/Storm. They popped like a soda can
or I've talked to people who were there with 1 ID
Once our bradleys realized they could kill shitty russian tanks they killed a lot of them. You have no idea what you're talking about
"talk to people"
Like real humans?
No fucking thanks user.
Fucking normies.
nice trips and I loved watching A10s dog fight when we had them on station. I've got to shoot a Soviet D30 but I was on the paladin for most of my little time and I fucking hated them.
theyre not so bad , if only they would actually initiate and use their ability for the duration of the teamfight without being pussies amirite harhurharhurharhur
I just stated that Saddam's tanks were raped by Bradley's with the aid of advanced optics
Perhaps you misread or are dumb.
Unless you mean the Airforce did the heavy lifting, and while I don't have exact numbers the damage the Airforce did as well as Army Aviation was substantial.
Even though it was 1st AD and 3rd ID, but whatever
The best nation of the world has a lot of them, so it can't be a bad thing.
the whole topic was tanks and i started tanks not Bradley's, yes the air force was there but majority of the US casualties came from the USAF, yes that's alot of lifting.... shit man when I was deployed the air force dropped a 500 pound bomb on us troops in fob Tillman... air force can be great and it can be shit too
What’s 19k like? boutta do that shi
All the Soviet stuff we got to "play" with was burned out and had charred humans still at the controls lmao.
We called them...Crispies!
Lots of field time. Long days. Heavy lifting.
Haha, they go snap crackle pop?
Oh, excuse I meant, المفاجئة فرقعة البوب
>be in the motorpool every day
>tank breaks, fix tank
>no sleep at gunnery
>work on tank
>leave gunnery
>work on tank
>deploy
>work on tank
>ied or org
>work on tank
>eat, sleep, piss, and shit inside tank
>work on tank
They're pretty badass if the roe allows. I got lucky in sadr city and we had weapons free so we fucked a lot of shit up
I was surprised when I found out that Bagram still has land mines still from Soviet era, but tons of authentic Soviet memorabilia. but I'd take Iraq over Afghanistan any day but then again I'd never want to deploy with first cav again
Fuck y’all lucky
Expericin’ the golden age of the M1
>shit inside tank
haha sounds great
fucking tanks need to hold agro, that's what I think
Fuck 1st cav
But I'd take Afghanistan. At least brown isn't the only color there. Even though it was the physically hardest thing I've ever done
This robonigger isn't going to replace a battle tested tank.
Ammo can and a trash bag bro. Until you get Saddam's revenge and shit your pants
like Infantry, but no blue cord and lots of maintenance on a big heavy retard machine that shoots big loads.
>only saw tankers in the TOC
>actually seeing a TOC
Hello headquarters company, ask me how I know you're a POG retard
Tankers know how to do infantry caveman bullshit plus run a 70 ton moronic apparatus.
Armor tactics are literally the same as infantry, just on a much larger scale
It’s 60 tons, not 70
Full combat load is 72 tons
it's actually 64 tons
>+4 really fat crewman
Nuh uh because the mess sergeant told me with a shit eating grin that if I wanted to be a tanker I had to be thin
I would punch that fucking tank right in it's snarky condescending turret...
Cunt.
Dude that was some gruesome shit! They never knew what hit em. From room temperature to 2000 degrees in an instant. I shit you not, One dude still had his finger in his nose bro! Dude died picking his Fucking nose LMAO
>clearing a house
>JUST TANK TACTIC LMAO
clearing a house in a tank is just blowing it up.
clearing a house as infantry is tripping a IED as you kick in the door and yelling at some old lady to shut the fuck up while you go up stairs to kill her son after 2 of your friends just got blown the fuck apart
Other than battle drill 6, obviously. And yeah, I've done lots of raids too
Nearing obsolescence in 1st world countries but they use SPAA's sometimes for crowd control but in wars there very close to being obsolete
WHAT is the best pc tank sim?
World of Tanks
Seaman for Dreamcast
>be tanker
>think I'm going to be safe in tank
>have to do infantry shit riding around in a humvee
shits fucked, bro, what was your MOS?
I was a tank mechanic in the army...63H
Not at all. Modern warfare is structured on mobility. The tank is the best platform to carry heavy weapons rapidly into conflict. That's why 1st world nations keep building newer versions and updating current ones. What 3rd world country do you live in?
I had to get a hold of FDC.... they are at the TOC not at the gunline and call me a fobbit but we rocked the most TICs bro
I fucking hate world of tanks. Tried to like it, but I just couldn't make myself
I like when down here in Texas we get a frog strangler and it fills our tanks. Cows happy, better fishing, better dove hunting. Thanks for asking.
I was a 19k. In Iraq we did 2 mounted and a dismounted patrol every day. Until we went into sadr city then we just stayed mounted and were in contact all day almost everyday. In Afghanistan I was a squad leader attached to an oda team from first group and we did the special forces thing. So we were dismounted all the time because mountains
were you with Longknife?
No, I was with 3ID in Iraq and 1ID in Afghanistan. But longknife was the callsign for the apaches in Iraq
I was in 1st Cav my last duty station though
>3ID
nice
I was 77th AR, 1st ID
3ID was a badass unit. Was 77th out of Graff? I was at Hohenfels for a few years
oh shit small world I was in 4th brigade too! I was in 5-82
Long knife
Obsolete. Though still impressive.
Garryowen here
Schweinfurt
1-9? small world I was there for the finger popping assholes hazing lol
1-8 here
7th Cav
I think im glad im not in some desert sitting in one
our 1st platoon was attached to 2-7
I think 1-8 got moved to first brigade part of the whole brigade shutdown lol
>This day shall gentle his condition;
>And gentlemen in England now a-bed
>Shall think themselves accurs'd they were not here,
>And hold their manhoods cheap whiles any speaks
>That fought with us upon Saint Crispin's day.
>Plus they're too expensive. Its just not viable. These are the last days of tanks.
The slow moving armored vehicles with a big gun is going away. However, the tank concept will evolve where traditional tanks become quick defensive fortifiers while faster and more able AFAV's (armored fast attack vehicles) start to get more attention. Some light armor concepts are quite impressive lately!
Believe it or not, one think keeping tanks around are the military contracts for the fuel they consumer.
DOD has been messing with electric armored vehicles for decades with good results only to be held back by stodgy military-industrial-complex where they are less expensive to operate and the contractor does not profit enough.
IMO, it is going to take a big event where an Armored division is nearly devastated before the switch happens. There is just way too much money building, fueling and maintaining big heavy tanks of the current era.
you mean artillery? and coastal artillery which was obsolete...
tanks, being communist, have killed over 100 million people
because tanks are communist, they are not capitalist and therefore i have nothing to fear from capitalists.
capitalists have never killed anyone
So therefore as a communist, i feel pretty good ;3
fuck I dont miss wearing CVCs lol
>IFVs were used to a great effect during the Gulf War, Bradley's had more tank kills than M1s
There is a story goes the M1's got first crack at Saddam's tanks mostly for publicity and not their ability.
>you'll never ride into combat wearing a CVC with the chinstrap hanging loose again
BOHICA! show some love for the M65 Atomic Annie
I used to do that with my ACH.... my nco made low crawl for it in fort sill...
not a fun place to crawl
based and waynepilled
i like tanks and pantsu
Based. They are to mecha what the apes are to us. Close to the real thing, just needs more refinement.
at this point they are more symbolic than anything. i may dare even say that they are nearly obsolete.
his driver got killed that way. he was driving all John Wayne and hit an IED and the 5cal ammo can busted his head open. so always strap it in
That's cool. I hated that Goddamn brigade
I wanted to go there after 4 closed down cause first was going to Germany.
also do any of you guys remember these posters?
The majority of WWII tanks had petrol engines, the t 34 was an exception.
i'm a city slicker from dallas that went awol and ended up in south texas. why don't people just call them ponds? people(ranchers) always say tanks and i'm never entirely sure what they're referring to until i use context clues to determine they're talking about a pond
Kek..had to have been a pog. But no, I never saw one
actually world war 2 never happened, it was a mirage created by the hollow earth
>tfw no tank bf to rail my boypussy
we had some tankers from 3-69 3RD ID come on our fob acting all big and bad cause they were QRF for SF... the dude smashed his fingers on a mwrap door lol like all 4
also artillery is superior to tanks any day of the week.
a simple video will display the difference between and the Bradley's 20mm
m.youtube.com
>qrf for sf
So nothing then
>tanks
>Bradley
Accept that it's not near as mobile. That's why it's always behind the lines. It's an effective direct fire asset but it's not as maneuverable. That's why you can use a tank as indirect if needed. So no, reach an artillery unit and they're fucked
Accept that bradleys aren't tanks
And you don't need a video when you've done it in real life
ITT: people that don't know shit about tanks or warfare
what regiment were you in?
pure fiction. what else what going to take on a t-72? Leg? para?
For small regional skirmishes they can be very effective.
In a major war they're more obsolete than ever. Two words for anyone who disagrees: Air Force
Just drop a dirty bomb near by and let the faggots rot in their cancer cage
41st fires shot that round from mlrs before my time, I'm not a slick sleeve if that's what ur trying to say and I've had my fair share of fun things.
I said I've seen them, I'm arty baby I'm counter fire, when im not doing that shit im either doing BDOC shit or KP. the struggle was real. good times though in Mehtar lam.
Or 3 letters uav.
>Bradley
>Tank
pick one, dummy
I was never in a regiment. Regiments aren't really used anymore. There are a few, but they're usually specialized units. Like a ranger regiment. I was in a bunch of companies that are in battalions that are in brigades that are in divisions, though
paladins m109a7 can most definitely shoot and scoot not as mobile as a tank but mobile enough about 45mph or so and tanks are not capable of indirect fire, compared to paladins being capable and every artillery unit trains direct fire as well.
Obsolete in a world of smart bombs, hypersonic middles, drones and bombs capable of glassing the planet.
you still got your 2nd CR and 3rd CR and I think 11th ACR are the only ones left that are straight regiments
your battalion was certainly part of a Regiment.
I know what you mean though.
>tanks are not capable of indirect fire
That's why part of gunnery is an indirect mission
>paladin can shoot and scoot
Yes. Not armored enough to survive against a tank.
This. People get all technical and forget we already built the most destructive weapon short of making black holes. We could split this floating rock in half if we truly want to.
or I should say, you know what I mean. I like Regiment crests more than brigade titles I guess, so what Brigade/Division were you in?
so your telling me a tank can take a 155HE on a delayed fuse?
I'll admit I'm not too knowledgeable on the 19K life but how indirect are we talking? cause arty we can push 21 miles easy....
I was first cav 5-82 FA then got moved to 3rd brigade after they shut 4th down and yeah 3RD ACR has a cool patch too not gonna lie.... i hated wearing a cav sandwich overpriced patch...
It would be like having a tank in fallout 3, fun until you run out of fuel.
I get you user. But my first unit was 1-64 armor, 2d bde 3id at Stewart, then I went to 1-16 infantry, 1st bde, 1id at Riley, then to 1-4 infantry, 7th army at Hohenfels, Germany, then I went to 1-8 cav, 2nd bde, 1st cav. Then I got out
Fuck no. Not much on the planet can stand up to that. It's just that in a fight, a paladin couldn't take a tank because they're not equipped for armored combat, which is the only thing a tank does. And I forget how far a tank can shoot indirect but its obviously not as fat as a 155. I was a fister before I went tanker so I know what arty is capable of
Tanker
Without
A
Tank
And I was part of the surge in your pic, which I assume you were as well
I was a twat for a long time
Am I seeing anthropomorphic KV-2 porn?
what the fuck
Duty first! Dagger Brigade?
A swarm of C 130’s circling and warthogs doing strafing runs...
I don’t think tanks have a place or a chance in today’s battlefield
I remember those, fucking kek
But they are a "box of purple hearts"
>doesn't know that tanks are capable of shooting down aircraft and have special rounds for that
Brads are good vehicles. I've seen them stand up to some shit.
I kinda love the Bradley's despite their downfalls, I just always enjoyed that moniker. Along with "Everyone and their dog shoots and a Bradley"
just glad you know and I know a paladin is basically aluminum which is why I'm glad they a7 will give it a bit more armor and HP... also why did u reclass? 13F points are stupid low like in the 30s or at least they were when I was in.
They're just like everything else in the military, you have to sacrifice a percentage of one attribute to accommodate another depending on the purpose of the equipment
>I've seen them stand up to some shit.
yea i bet you have
>tfw I've seen them melt while men are in the carrier compartment after getting hit by an IED since they are made of aluminum.
I've litterly seen them break down in the motorpool between PMCS Monday and by Friday it would be dead lined lol. I hated the mech life so much.
I know bro. But I reclassed because my first unit was a tank company and by the time I got back from my first deployment I was an e5 that had spent the last 2 years on a tank and knew more about tanks than artillery and didn't want to be an nco that didn't know shit about my job
Indeed my nigga
you wouldnt happen to have that video of a Bradley hitting an IED outside an ECP, in Iraq and when they were trying to evacuate the Bradley a secondary IED goes off? they show them for IED classes...
fair enough and I'm sorry u had to turn in ur cross canons for tanker boots lol but once a redleg always a redleg
I've seen them get fucked up too. Everything can be destroyed. Just when it comes to vehicles I'd rather a tank than a brad but I'd rather a brad than a stryker
that was ment for u
Kek..the only thing that doesn't seem to always break down out of nowhere are hummers
i'd rather get fucked in my mouth than my ass, I guess.
Lol..I've been a civilian for 3 years now so I don't feel like a leg or a dat anymore
that and the 88 wreckers... those things are monsters.... how I miss the army days...
With the lack of large-scale armor engagements in today's police actions and proxy wars, I think we should reintroduce the idea of tankettes. A small, heavy armor tracked vehicle armed with a machine gun turret and seating two men is a lot cheaper to operate than an Abrams. We've already replaced the concept of the cavalry tank with vehicles like the bradley and the striker, so mobility isn't the biggest concern. Protection, optics and turret traversal should be the dominant design factors. A modern tankette should be able to shrug off anti-personnel mines and still be salvageable if it eats a rocket. Its main purpose would be to provide mobile suppressive fire and cover while it acts as an anchor for attached infantry. Just put twin-linked 240s on top, maybe a mk19 if you can figure out how to keep it operable without putting the gunner at too much risk when he inevitably has to unjam the blasted thing.
I got booted after I got back from deployment, part of the draw down... best thing happened to me lol found out i got a TBI and I'm now living 100% va
boss fights are hard without them
replace the tracks with wheels and you got ur self a stryker...
thats what happens when you have china make shit
Wise man
Meh
Right? Those fucking things can pull a skyscraper down
kek
I wonder if they're glad they died to increase the stock portfolios of the politicians with stock in the major defense contractors.
the shit the terrifies me more than anything is the damn fire extinguishers in there... ask ur maintenance to service them and look at their faces....
Dude, I'm still dealing with them. I'm gonna get the wounded warrior project to do it for me because goddamn
They look badass and fun to drive
I've litterly seen it drag another one of its self.... the torque on that thing is insane! I'd love to own one but I doubt I could afford to even start it up lol
So, a tank then
Is this what counts as suppressive fire?
You drive an Abrams like a motorcycle. It's got a t handle steering with a twist throttle
dude good luck, it's all about phrasing, I'm still trying to fight with them over other shit... but good luck with ur VA experience lol. just be patient and dont be discouraged. also listen to what the black Vietnam vets have to say, no lie they know how to navigate the system.
Based mowing the rocks
I've had one pop on me. It'll choke the fuck out of you
no it's your tax payers dollars at work... well the idea was... and yes that's someone's personal lawn mower, and we had to chip for the gas cause some idiot said to mow it, and wont hear a word against it.... assuming your American... if not then carry on lol.
I know. Would piss your neighbors off to those loud motherfuckers
I bet ur ass wasnt wearing a pt belt... that's ur fault lol jk
Word
If only. The whole thing could have been avoided
I used to love going in the field in winter, cause on cold clear night the boom really travel, so were waking people up in the next town over, we had a music radio in the paladin and we heard a lady calling the radio station to complain lol
that and being Green on ur med pro.... and finishing SSD1... fucking SMA chandler
Lol..I bet that was funny as shit
>ssd 1
Kek
I also didn't go to the sexual assault class either. I was doomed to fail
btw I've lurked in /b since 06 when I was 16 and man this has been the best thread I've seen here in years bros. thank you guys and thank you for your service and sacrifice, please always check on ur buddy's...
it was fucking hilarious, we were shooting illumes.
funny story about those classes, we come back from deployment, and the bombard us with the sharp and EO classes and domestic violence etc... that same day some E7 punches out his wife, we all had to redo the classes again and the E7 got booted lol
Fucking Kek. Of Goddamn course lol. Dude the army is so fucking funny. When we got back from my second deployment we were doing the little ceremony in front of the families and as soon as they fell us out and the families rushed us, this ssg knocked his wife out right there and the mps arrested almost immediately. It was funny as fuck.
>do a year in Afghanistan
>in states less than an hour
>punch wife out
>go to jail
Shit was funny as fuck
well all you PT studs and all the fatties riding out yalls profile... I'll see yall at final formation at fidlers green.
yall have a good one and may saint Barbra look after yall.
Except the odds any of those super weapons are ever used are slim to none.
shit never fails... and I love how E4 and below would be held to a much higher standard compared to NCOs when it comes to punishment... it was a dick sucking fest from brigade commander who got a shiny star on his chest to my POS platoon sgt for banging one of his Joe's wife... glad ur out and all the smart people see it for what it is and get the fuck out.
Dude, or how a field grade officer just gets forced retired for something an enlisted man goes to jail for
Good shot man. I miss the Labrinth, fucking great times
MK19's are pretty fun, but they do jamb like a MF
E3 female sleeps with a married cw3, she gets a field grade, and sent home and nothing happened to him... its typical army bs... I'm glad I got iut before the whole female combat arms thing.... but that's a story for another time
Same here. And yeah, that's a whole other thread
Plus they look like a weapon from halo or some shit. As long as you use that white shit to lube them and not clp they won't jam SO much
Knowing the number of chicks that got knocked up to go home just blows my mind imagining how high that number would grow to with females in combat arms positions
I like the dumb tanks in 40k, designed by people who had no idea about them.
They're strangely iconic.
Truth, was staioned in Irwin. Fucking state bans on "harmful chemicals" prevented us from using Mokey Spunk. Could get a max of 3 rounds in a trigger pull before I would have to clear it.
Gorgeous machines, the battleships of the land
True manifestations of the might of human engineering.
80 tons of armored destruction that not a single living thing on this planet can stand up to.
That being said. Kinetic darts are going to fuck up their day once advanced targeting computers become mainstream.
I overheard females in the dfac talking about getting pregnant so they wouldn't have to deploy. Females are so fucking worthless
real nice
The designs show a lot of thought into real life use if you read the back info on the machines in that world
I only went there for ntc, so I'm that note: fuck Irwin. Fuck all of California though
Tanks already shoot kinetic darts. They're called sabot rounds because they're sabboted rounds. Self sharpening, depleted uranium darts that fly at almost a mile a second
>sad
>think about tank
>no sad
thank tank
it's not the best in the world it's just the best of that peninsula
I know you dingus.
The issue is shooting a tank from a 'relatively' safe distance accurately.
Tanks have an average speed of 60mph and you need to hit something important to disable one. So targeting software is very important. You can't reliably eyeball a tank shot without putting yourself in severe danger.
