T-thank you uwu

please show me yours?

i'd start picking out some really really hard wood.
they usually last the longest, they contain naturally the most tree oil.
usually from rainforests but if you are US based then have a look at colombia or brazil for wood imports.

Google images seems to think this is NOT your deck.

Why do you LARP so hard OPIE?

how about i shove my deck up your ass and you tell me if it's not my deck huh?

5/10
oh my, that's quite an antique one isn't it? i'm surprised that deck has lasted that long.
I bet plenty of feet have shuffled over that deck over and over, am i right?

8/10 great deck. even better craftsmanship.

I'm dyslexic

cheers,
yes hardwood has that going on sometimes, i'd rather have it smooth then untreated though. but i like it that way.
yours gives off a very homey feeling, i quite like it if i do say so myself. i feel like the support beams are obstructing your vision too much, however it looks extremely comfy
8/10

posting a dream deck of mine

Attached: wish i could make this one.jpg (2200x1463, 650K)

I would drink beer on that deck if you know what I mean

Good eye, didn't notice that before. A case of incomplete finish perhaps?
Agreed. Boy, these sure are getting extravagant aren't they?

Attached: urbanDeck1.jpg (1200x616, 113K)

I've built a few, but wouldn't - couldn't do this. This one is wasteful. The rest I could do.

Love the deck, but the steps look annoying. Should add smaller stump in the gravel so people have more walking room. or glass over the steps but that would probably take away from the idea.

For me its the SL-1210's

Attached: technics-sl-1200.jpg (784x472, 82K)

Why do those nibbas have a ship helm? Is this a crossover deck?

I was under the impression the stumps ARE the steps, but I appreciate your input.
I think it's just an aesthetic thing.

Attached: 1452645603358.jpg (1280x960, 305K)

If they have any brains, they'll just slop some concrete into those forms and remove those idiotic round pads.

Nah, I totally think they are too. I just feel it would be awkward to navigate through without watching your step.

This one sucks. Points for effort, but it's a tryhard waste of space. Making it fancy does not equal good. you could put one flight of steps up the left, and have the whole platform uninterrupted.

mate if that's a restaurant, then that's one hell of a look. really like the modernist look on alot of things. and yeah, it's extravagant for sure kek. it's just a hopeful goal for when i grow old or something.
why would you say wasteful? i agree the bends and curves sure make for alot of spare and unusable wood after construction. you can use this "spillage" again right? i mean indoors and such to decorate plantpots and the likes?

Imagine what a nightmare it would be after some drinks.

kek, i think it looks kind of nice though. impractical perhaps but aesthetically nice. so i would say a definite 7/10 for aesthethics

That sure is a nice one. Pressure treated or laminate?

Attached: 177013.png (380x349, 77K)

i will have to translate to my own language, but i think it's pressure treated. it's definitely not laminate.
i love it's simplicity, thanks myguy.

>why would you say wasteful? i agree the bends and curves sure make for alot of spare and unusable wood after construction. you can use this "spillage" again right? i mean indoors and such to decorate plantpots and the likes?
A lot of this design is using the edge and not the face. The curves are okay in some of it, but they went overboard, bigtime. How people spend their money is not my concern, I'm all for that. But yeah, you have a lot of cut-offs that are mostly unusable. The lumber in that deck could cover a football field, but being fancy, they've got maybe 700 sq ft. Also, if you look at the details, they followed the theme under the deck where most people would use lattice. Again, fine. But unnecessary. To me, that looks like a show deck from a guy that owns a lumber yard. And they did a nice job. But it is indeed mega wasteful.

that's just rich people man kek
i've seen worse. treetrumps like that but without the supporting box, which was supposed to be a stairway. shit was dangerous but whatever.

I know. Thats what I was thinking. I'm not saying I hate it, I just don't like it. I would never build it. And if I was buying the house, it might prevent me from pulling the trigger, because it would annoy me for however long it survived. Which would be pretty fucking long, as it appears to be authentic redwood.

All fair points. Honestly I'm just posting nice looking decks at this point to keep the thread moving.
You're not wrong either, sadly people often value style over practicality when it comes to expensive decks.

Attached: 15092713212751.jpg (1650x1323, 517K)

Yeah, every time I see round pads at Home Depot I cringe. Try walking anyone up those steps in heels, they'll think it was the dumbest shit ever built.

ahh i see, then we weren't that far off in thought. i never realised the amount of wood needed to pull of projects like this is that high. i've got a family lumber mill in indonesia for the extraction of hardwood, we also do furniture but not patio's, decks and the likes. i should have a look into it because it does interest me.

Guardrail blocks the view, glass panels would be better.

Its a good thread, sometimes criticism is necessary. Someone said they just bought a house and are thinking of building a deck. Most people do a square with a hex-end for a reason.

>the hardwood
What kind of hardwood?

hey man i'm all for it. i love a good looking deck. people really don't value their own home enough i feel. props man.
and i agree on syle over practicality. i love a stylish deck or whatever even. but it needs to have common sense or it loses it's value to me.

Attached: Private home LA with pool deck.jpg (850x566, 61K)

Ok then, you understand board-feet of lumber. 1''x1'x1' = 1 board ft. They turned everything on its side. So, if those are six-inch planks, one inch wide, they've used basically six times the lumber necessary.

I don't think theres any hardwood. Maybe he topped the rails with poplar.

>No deck is complete without it.

Attached: s-l1000.jpg (1000x978, 195K)

Perhaps, but those panels can be a real pain in the ass to clean.
Reminds me of my childhood deck.
That's right. Even with all the money in the world, we should never fully give in to excess.

Attached: elegant-deck1.jpg (999x666, 194K)

>rate my deck
Why has no one posted their actual deck? Just a bunch of shit from Google.
>inb4 Where's yur deck, user?
I'm all about stone and concrete. And I'm middle-class.

>people really don't value their own home enough

People don't love their home enough unlike your mom who loved slobbering all over my dick.

These are not the same decks.

I have a feeling that most of these are Trex, or some other composite.

kek
teak, i woul'dnt be able to tell you which species exactly as i don't remember but it's indonesian.
yeah i see what you mean by that. i often think about how to use spare spillage and such in my line of work as a habit. but it's true what you say.
i feel like i need to get my hands dirty more often on the operational side of the business. i've only concerned myself with the strategic side but i do like to try someday.
kek based. even better then the card man.
love the firepit. very smooth looking mate. 9/10
front and back, i'm a wood man.

anyways, OP here. i have to abandon thread. RL calls.
i like what we have started here, and didn't expect to last this long. let's do it again someday.

peace

I doubt they used anything larger than 2x3. Maybe even 2x2. You can see the edges. They're not that thick. Also, it would be a dumb idea because you couldn't protect an edge-wise 6" deck. You'd be inviting rot from the bottom.

No guardrail would be ideal but that’s just begging for a lawsuit or some dead toddlers.

Then why would you say "another angle"?

>i don't remember
You mean you didn't see it on Eric McKenna's website where he sells homes in Philladelphia... There's no way this is teak. It looks plastic as fuck.

Maybe some. Lumber is still pretty popular. When guys start figuring out the material bill, unless they're flush, they usually go for lumber. My neighbors deck I can see from here is 40 years old, just a square, but solid. You gotta put some Thompsons on it every few years. That Trex stuff is more common around brand new homes, or places with salt water. My yard is all stone, so, I'm experiencing a different decay rate. I knew a guy in jersey who did a lot of docks and loved Trex.

Very nice

Not same user but use reclaimed wood for your deck, way cheaper than new and you can choose rustic look or finish it to look new.

Attached: 6069C07B-0C15-438F-81BB-2DD6F2AD1315.jpg (1067x800, 143K)

We're simply posting Google-based examples of the kinds of back/front yard furnishing we wouldn't mind growing old with.
Thank you, OP. Hopefully we see more people like you amidst the yellow tide.
Maybe, but then again I've always been a fan of a little domesticated natural selection.

Attached: Deck-String-Lighting-Ideas.jpg (875x561, 87K)

Hard to tell from the pix, but I doubt it's 2x4's. The guy is being a lumber freak. Ever see those benches that use the edge, those are 6'' planks. Nominally 5 1/4 I think. Thats only the dimensions of a regular paperback book.

>Google-based examples
>we rate each other's decks!
Post your deck, faggot!

Oh, also, pressure treated can be sprayed, and cedar doesn't rot. So it depends on what he used, but it's not crazy to surmise he used 2x6 (1.5 x 5.5)

If thats not pressure treated it's gonna rot in about five years.

Attached: 7f8b976a-f529-11e6-80ed-95607db9c6fe.jpg (700x467, 51K)

>those are 6'' planks
Those are just fascias. I would even bet that there are a ton of stringers/runners under there and it's all 1x2 or something. There is no reason to go any thicker than 1 1/2"
2x6 if 5 1/2" btw.

>pressure treated can be sprayed
It can, but it looks like shit depending on what kind you get. OP's pics aren't pressure treated.
>cedar doesn't rot
Tell that to my 10-yr old cedar fence. Rotten as fuck.

Dude, that looks like hell and like it will succumb to mildew and rot any minute now.

I'm gonna have to go back and look again. I have no doubt theres a ton of work under the surface. But I wouldn't use 2x2 's to build a surface, theres not much structural integrity to that. You have to bend them like a bow to fit those curves, which means putting a lot of torque holding those curves in place. I never built one like that, but I probably wouldn't be comfortable having a 100,000 deck popping apart at the seams when the single screw failed.

Then what you got sold was not cedar. My neighbors deck (in the other direction) is also 40 years old, cedar, looks like the day it was built.

>I wouldn't use 2x2
But a 2x4 flat is ok?
>which means putting a lot of torque holding those curves in place
Do you think that they actually bend 2x on-site and screw them in place?

>i think the color is very aesthetically pleasing personally.

Please tell me this is a girl talking.

>what you got sold
It came with the house. New build. Keep in mind that it's stuck in clay. The posts are rotting to hell. Cedar can definitely last if you take care of it. It's right there with redwood, but certainly not indestructible.

That's Colonel Decker.

Best deck

I've never seen more men with high estrogen levels in my life. If talking about and admiring decks is interesting to you, you might as well buy some tampons because you're going to get your period soon.

>admiring decks
>other peoples' decks
it's worse than you thought, user.

Look man.. as wood ages, it rots. The deeper the core, the longer it holds its integrity. A 2x4 on edge will last years longer than one laying flat. a 2x2 is practically worthless as a decking material. They sell those 5-quarter decking cuts, which are pretty good, but nothing like a 2x6 laid flat.

Honestly, I don't know what they do on site. But wood has a tendency to try to regain its shape. That means it has to be under some torque. They don't just "float" in that shape with nothing keeping them curved. They'll twist like a fucking pigtail.

>it has to be under some torque
They're either steam-bent off-site or cut from larger stock, depending on the radius. No torque.

Come on user, don't tell me you never enjoyed a 'sink' thread in your day. It's kind of like that.

Anyway, happy posting. Off to work so that I too can build an exceptional deck one day.

tappedout.net/mtg-decks/life-total-hell-1/

Simple answer - Contractor. I have cedar shingles on the siding of the house, almost a hundred years old. It was painted with oil based paint a few times, but nothing magical.

We will have to agree to disagree. Did you ever notice how a regular tread is screwed down at both corners? Know why? Because one corner will dog-ear up. Otherwise, they'd use one screw right smack in the middle.
