My fucking Line 6 Spider blew out Yea Forums. It doesn't work anymore. All these years I've heard how Line 6 is unreliable but I didn't listen. I played it at a store and I fell in love with the sound. But now it's blown out. Now what am I supposed to do? What brand/amp should I get for a modern hard rock/metal tone?

What exactly blew out?

Get a used tube amp and buy pedals instead of going the modelling route, Your tone will thank you in the end,.

Everytime I plug in a cord, fuzzy staticy noise is all that comes out. Ive tried other amps so I know it's not my guitar or cord.

What is they're called... hmm... you know, those "Grungey"-like standards... Peavey, or orange !

Amen
Proper midrange control is key OP. Don't be one of those MetalZone assholes.

There's no sound from the guitar at all?

Just fix it

There's no point in spending thousands of dollars when you can just get new hardware cheap. Did you check the wiring inside?

this
or peavey

I've had my line6 for 17 years

If you fell in love with the sound of a line 6 in the first place, you've got bigger problems. But to answer your question, Mesa Boogie, Marshall, or Peavey. Or get a nice clean platform like a fender or a roland jazz chorus and build a pedalboard.

Fucking get an interface and pirate guitar rig 5, it's obviously not as good as a real tube amp but it kicks the shit out of line 6's digital vomit.

You can sorta hear it but it's drowned out by the fuzz
>
Orange is so bright for my taste. I thought about Peavey
>I use the gain from the amp. No distortion pedals
I took to a shop but he couldn't do anything and it would cost more to repair it somewhere else than its worth. And that the amp is discontinued.

electronics tech here. FUCKING FIX IT. it isn't even hard. sounds like an input/preamp problem. check grounds. if it powers up, it can be repaired. seriously? every musician who uses amplified electronics needs a tech. who didn't teach you this? btw, if you play an instrument, you need a tech for that, if you use a mic, you need a tech for that. we do actually exist. probably wasting my breath.

Why do people call it digital shit? It's not a spider v or anything like that.

Didn't mean to greentext that 3rd one

then you took it to the wrong place. signal to noise is the easiest fix i do.

Take it somewhere else. The guy obviously doesn't know what he's doing.

Then get a peavey, they last longer either way...

And don't buy into the "tube crap". Tube is crisp, but modern transistors are solid

Ok ok. I'll take it to some other shops and see what comes out. In the mean time, I'll look at other amps.
What are some opinions on these amps anons?
Mesa Boogie Lone Star
Peavey 6505

Would they be good for the tone I'm going for?

If you can find one like picture related and fix it up, I'd recommend it ANY day ! Never failed me

Peavy is good. Are Marshalls still good? Last I remember they're good solid amps

What's your budget? Mesa Boogie is great but it's a lot of money, just below hand built prices generally. Peavey is the budget move.

Ignore the Mesa Boogie Lone Star. Turns out it was an extension cabinet.

I would say a 1000 USD. I'm pretty much just looking for an amp to fit in my bedroom.

The 6505 piranha is a good little amp and there's a couple on reverb for $100

Try finding a used peavey 5150 combo. I don't love peavey, but that's only because hard rock and metal isn't my focus. A lot of people swear by the 5150. A good mesa is way more than 1000 bucks.

And peaveys are built like tanks in my experience.

Go to a guitar resale, or pawn shop. You can probably find a good used Amp cheap

Or Craigslist

Additionally, you should go with a tube amp if you have an eye toward ease of repair in the future. Most solid state amps use cheap printed circuit boards and other model specific parts, so once something breaks you need to source that specific part or you're screwed. I had the the same tepair issue after my idiot friend spilled water into my bass head. Tube amp construction is simpler and therefore easier to replace.

Every pawn shop I've ever been just sells crappy Marshalls and Line Spider Vs. I got a Marshall MG 30 DFX which is alright but not heavy and modern enough.

Get a Marshall you dumb faggot and grow up.

buy a real amp

6505 for metal rhythm/lead is great (used on lots of albums, so can't go wrong there). Its clean tone is eh though. So if you care for that, either go for something more versatile or go for the 4cable method with a boss gt or something similar and emulate a clean channel.

VOX / FENDER

Just because you never turn it on doesn't count.

Being a musician is like owning a foreign car. Either learn to fix your own shit, or pay big bucks to have someone else fix it. Or be prepared to buy a new one every year.

Your first mistake was to buy that exact amp model
Either play thru a DAW with a bunch of plugins and a cab SI or just go with a good tube amp
Transistor amps aren’t really my thing anymore and the ole tube amp has never failed anyone
But i’ve heard/read some great reviews about Mark DV transistor amps

This thing with the tube amps, it's like saying vinyl is better. Yeah, vinyl is better than cd, but it doesn't beat flac. So, any modern peavey would be MORE than decent for this... up-and-coming guitarist asking

Whatever you say
Not trying to be an elitist but fucking tube amps always had the best feel and sound imho
The response and clarity is so pristine that you could play it for hours and still feel like a pro when you play it(granted you know your way around the fretboard)
All transistor amps always sounded like cardboard to me
There really is something about how a tube amp feels and sounds that inspire me even more when playing on it

Alternatively, get yourself a Roland Cube or something, they’re not that expensive and do a pretty good job for what you pay
Plus they have inbuilt effects and the Rectifier sim sounds alright for a metal/lead tone

Well, then take this "brilliant" idea, and keep it to yourself... Because, tube amps went out of style for a reason, that wasn't just cost

>went out of style
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Ok kid
Go plug it back in your shitty Spider amp that you fell in love with
Sure is way superior than all tube amps there is

Wow, you're obviously dumber than a bag of hammers, I'll stick with my Carlsbro, thank you

pssst tube amps are still respected and never really fell out of style for most guitarists...
where did you hear that from, guitar center?

That you try and post under another guise just shows how stupid you are... Admit it, tube amps was defeated by better technology

Tell me ANYTHING bad about my Carlsbro GLX85 special ed. , And I'll burn it in a video

You can find a used Line 6 spider on any craigslist forum in the US for $100.

I actually like the Line 6 spider metal tone I had one for years and they sound good for jamming by yourself. In a band situation, they are basically useless. The frequency is all Highs and Lows and no Mids. In a band situation, the line 6 lows are drowned out by the bass guitar and your highs become inaudible over the cymbals.

You may want to think about moving to a tube amp of some kind. The EVH 5150 and Peavey 6505 are both amazing for metal. Another thing you could try is a Fender Hot Rod Amp with a Friedman BE OD pedal.

These amps sound much heavier than the spider and they work in a band setting

If you're falling in love with a spiders tone I'm assuming you're somewhat of a beginner.
First thing be thankful that pos died.
I'd go for a vypyr 30. Grab a sanpara to go with it. Great modeling amp, can get some really good metal tones as long as good cleans and shit. And it's fairly inexpensive

>Carlsbro GLX85
I like that little CarlsBro amp, but if you think it has a better metal tone than this, you have a tapeworm in your brain.

This!

Dude, just quit the thread already, faggot ass OP is going to assume you are me
If you speak about tube amps

He really does sound like someone who is shit, relies on tabs and doesn’t have a fucking clue about how to play his instrument
Might aswell leave him rot in his own superiority complex that seems to plague alot of noob guitarists that got into it thinking they’re gonna get chicks

Retard keeps on making up bullshit excuses to rationalize his shitty cheap transistor amp to be superior to anything else
What a fucking goober

>laughs in Marshall JMP-1 rackmount rig

I recommended Peavey myself, along with Orange.

It has a pretty good doomtone, which is the grenre I play myself. Tune down to C, get a big-muff, and you're fucking good to go

why wouldn't you have it to a technician

The Champion 40 is great. I mostly play clean with a little overdrive. You find tons of used ones cheap.

Attached: 5-1734x1156.jpg (1734x1156, 558K)

Cause OP is a fucking noob who doesn’t know jack shit and would rather argue back with anyone with knowledge over his superior Line 6 crappy amp
There’s no way to salvage him

>What are some opinions on these amps anons?
Marshall 6100LM TSL
Marshall JCM900A
Gibson Les Paul Custom w/ EMG 81/85

What I have, what I use, all I'll ever need. Been playing this combination since 1998, never once had any problems. You should learn from this stellar example.

This.

>If you fell in love with the sound of a line 6 in the first place, you've got bigger problems.
Never heard it phrased quite like that before, but fer chrissakes, this motherfucker's spot-on.

There's a reason they're the "gold standard" for guitar amps. Everyone wants to recreate the tone, power & crunch of "Les Paul through a Marshall Half Stack" without using that exact combination because they want to be original. Fuck that. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. Who gives a shit if you're playing the same exact combo countless others before you have played? It's not what you have, it's what you DO with it that counts. And if you've got the best the industry has to offer, you have no excuse for sucking.

But at least that way, you know that your suck will sound the absolute best it could ever sound.

>All transistor amps always sounded like cardboard
Darrell Lance Abbott was the only motherfucker on the planet who used exclusively transistor amps & made them sound phenomenal. Pic related.

Back in the early 80's, in accordance with the "I want the sound of a Les Paul/Marshall but don't want to get it by actually USING them because I'll look just like everyone else, so I'll try to recreate that sound using a Kramer & some other amp and hope for the best" theory, Les Pauls & SGs were being offloaded at record rates. I actually saw a 1962 Heritage Cherry SG at Bill's Music in Catonsville, MD for $750 but didn't have the money at the time. Shame really, fucker played like butter. And thanks to the mentality of idiots like the guy I quoted, the trend in the 80's was for the established stuff to not be seen as "worthy" anymore because it was *gasp!* old. No country for old men, or old guitars, apparently.

Now, fast forward to any point after 1993. Look around & tell me who the fuck is still playing Kramers anymore, apart from Satchel. The "cutting edge" my ass. Now, that 1962 Cherry SG I was coveting, how much do you think that's going for nowadays? How reliable have those "old" Marshall amps & Les Pauls proven to be?

Take your "enlightened" opinion & shove it so far up your ass that it smashes the back of your teeth.

>Tell me ANYTHING bad about my Carlsbro GLX85 special ed.
It's a fucking trend.

"I fell in love with the sound. "My line 6 blew out.
"What brand/amp should I get for a modern hard rock/metal tone? " jesus fuck I can't breathe. best b8.
