You wouldn't wake up

You'd be dead.

Imminent death.

this

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elephant's_Foot_(Chernobyl)

It is currently an extremely deadly radioactive compound. Its danger has decreased with the decay of its radioactive components.

U become one with it

youd gain some sort of super powers

Overnight? You'd be dead in 5 minutes

At the time of its discovery, radioactivity near the Elephant’s Foot was approximately 10,000 roentgens, or 100 grays per hour, delivering a 50/50 lethal dose of radiation (4.5 grays)[6] in less than three minutes.[7] Since that time the radiation intensity has declined enough that, in 1996, the Elephant's Foot was visited by the Deputy Director of the New Confinement Project, Artur Kornayev,[a] who took photographs using an automatic camera and a flashlight to illuminate the otherwise dark room.[9]

You'd wake up dead

You'd be dead before you fell asleep? That's the most retarded question. It's like saying 'How would you sleep being eaten alive by a pack of wolves?'

You wouldn't.

Then why are people able to go and stand in that room and take video no problem?

Attached: 1560132135026.jpg (673x1200, 114K)

how the hell do you wake up dead?

Attached: 1560132381045.jpg (1910x954, 425K)

youd, die? thats the elephants foot in Chernobyl

Advancements in preventive radiation care. So basically, really really good suits. Plus they're taken to a hospital immediately after.

i wanna slap my cock on those tits.

You wouldn’t last a night

You'd wake up in Heaven and the Virgin Mary would let you tag team her while Jesus gently fondles your anus...faggot.

You'd get cooked. A moment of critical radiation can more or less give a person sunburn to all of their internal organs.

I’ve always been interested in this. Is it a solid? Or is it like molten matter that is very mailable? Is it hot or cold? So just getting near it makes you sick

It's solid, like my cock upon hearing of the Chernobyl nuclear meltdown in 1986.

You'd wake up dead.

It's mostly solid now and gives off faint heat, which it will do for centuries?, When the mass is initially formed it's magma and it melts downwards through like a fuckton feet of concrete

Canada pls go

Why don't they just drill that sucker and break it up and dispose of it somewhere safe?

Where exactly is safe? You mind keeping that shit?

Youd probably be dead within an hour

spooky times

This. They have, basically, an entire coarse of both pre- and post-exposure care as well as the materials and equipment needed to minimize exposure, and even then it's still mind-blowingly dangerous.

Eventually you would wake up feeling extremely sick, if you stayed longer you would start to experience confusion and delirium and eventually die.
If you leave as soon as you start feeling sick it's too late, you already have a death sentence. You could probably live for another week at best.

It's solid-esque. The outside is solid, the inside is likely still somewhat molten just due to it's internal temperature. It'll remain so for a very, very long time.

You'd be dead

I read that you would die after 3 min from radiation if you didn't have a suit on.

Attached: 771_3584442552838486.jpg (530x640, 41K)

The only "safe place" would be to shoot that fucker into the sun

I would happily go to sleep

Cause' you're alive when you go to sleep.

Depends on how radioactive it still is. At worst, it isn't radioactive enough to kill you particularly quickly. You'd linger for a few months at least, probably longer.

It would've killed you in 1986 even with a suit in 3 minutes. Now it would still kill you, but it would take twice as long or more.

And all you fags saying you'll die in X amount of minutes, no you wouldn't. You'd receive a lethal dose but it would take days to kill you. I'm sure if you stated for 8 hours you'd die though

Imagine taking a chunk of it and running around in public with it before you

There is a large enough dose that will damage your internal organs and brain hard enough that it kills you on the spot. Like 10 times the lethal dose. in '86 when the LD50 was a minute or two you'd probably drop dead in half an hour standing next to it.

Your skeleton might be found once the structure surrounding that thing collapses and someone goes looking

There is a nice chart on wikipedia. Basically if you start getting symptoms like vomiting, fever or headache within an hour or even during exposure, you have next to no chance of surviving.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Acute_radiation_syndrome#Dose_effects

Attached: file.png (1091x709, 100K)

I believe that, but it's not "3 minutes". It never has been, and certainly isn't now

What a fucking shitty way of going out.

Attached: 1559425319924.jpg (460x322, 19K)

Holding it and standing in the same room as it is completely different, but if you tried to hold it you'd probably drop it almost instantly

you die

It would probably burn the shit out of you. It's not a good thing to hold on to.

According to Wikipedia they tried a drill and it was ineffective. However they shot it with a Kolishnikov and it made a dent.

The scariest part is the latent period. You could be feeling okay for as long as a week even when you already have the death sentence.

thats what cellular collapse will do to ya

Would your body decompose? Or would all the bacteria be destroyed, thus preventing decomposition?

Become an elephant.

Insta death.

It makes getting your head lobbed off by Arabs seem tame.

So you’re telling me you can go to bed dead and wake up alive?

See those dots? That's the radioactive rays hitting the camera.

Attached: The Elephant's Foot of the Chernobyl disaster, 1986 (1).jpg (1200x816, 260K)

Didn't those cameramen die from that

You actually would be able to wake up and leave, however you would be in the "walking ghost" phase of radiation exposure. After a couple days you would start to turn red and die, before you died most of your skin would slough off as your body goes absolutely apeshit. Radiation kills humans by destroying cells in their bone marrow and intestines, the deaths are long and painful.

Attached: 3cd5cffe45ddaea32d0c0169f3eaa5c4.jpg (1200x1388, 671K)

IIRC yes.

I think they did. It was a slow death if I remember correctly.

lol humans. "POKE IT WITH A STICK!"

When it was first discovered, staying in the room with it for 3 minutes had a ~50% chance to kill you.

Since then, it is much lower now.

Its literally called Corium.

Corium.

From a fucking Core.

Fucking lazy shithead scientists.

You'd be toasty warm, like those loggers in Georgia (eastern europe).

www-pub.iaea.org/MTCD/Publications/PDF/Pub1660web-81061875.pdf

One of the most genuinely interesting threads on Yea Forums in a while. How did this radioactive thing (elephants foot?) come about? I've never heard of it until now.

melted core of chernobyl, its so powerful its slowly melting through concrete

*fucking lazy shithead corrupt soviet union

>The accident also raised concerns about the cavalier safety culture in the Soviet nuclear power industry, slowing industry growth and forcing the Soviet government to become less secretive about its procedures. The government coverup of the Chernobyl disaster was a catalyst for glasnost, which "paved the way for reforms leading to the Soviet collapse."

>The Soviets initially denied it, and it was only after the Swedish government suggested they were about to file an official alert with the IAEA, that the Soviet government admitted an accident took place at Chernobyl.

ftfy

nuclear power is the only viable bridge to fusion, the real motivation behind anti-nuclear sentiment is the desire for western civilization to choke and die

Attached: D6OwZNQXkAAxI3Q.jpg (980x474, 68K)

probably cause you have a fucking encyclopedia at your fingertips but youre too zoomer to into reverse image search. stay in school you dumb fuckin retard.

No, they didn't. Notice you can see the spot that was hit by the shot experiment and a chunk knocked off. So this is many years after that when the radiation dropped down significantly. Still, this was a nasty dose. Even with all that gear.

You're kidding me, right? It's the most famous of meltdowns. Fukushima is the latest one.

Attached: Chernobyl.jpg (3150x2100, 1.63M)

Absolute Madman

Ah thank you. I wouldn't go down there, not even for million bucks.

this desu. Internal combustion engine worst thing to happen to daily life other than cellphones. Ride a fucking bike Amerilards.

youd wake up dead in the morning

You wouldn't even be able to die in your sleep. You would get a lethal dose of radiation within 3 minutes. You would be in immense pain. Although you might pass out from the pain so maybe you could sleep. this is all assuming that you were wearing no protection

The melted core of the Chernobyl accident mixed with the boron rich sand that was used to bed and level the reactor during its construction. It was not an intended safety feature, it just happened to be the cheapest sand available from a nearby contractor at the time.
The unique properties of the sand is causing the corium to get less radioactive at a rate that surprised physicists.

Corium is an amalgam of various materials, not just the core itself, you fucking retard.

well i got an answer from a real person, which was a lot easier and quicker than having to do homework. are you mad because a nigger fucked your girlfriend or is your banter just so weak that i can't tell it's banter?

imagine discouraging free discussion on the random category of a forum

Do you need a coffee enema and have me finger your anus to help you have a tasty explosive diarrhea?

Worst AirBNB EVER!

You'd go nuh night forever

boomerposting is for fags

let him pass

"Let's put a bunch of nuclear reactors on an island prone to earthquakes and tsunamis, nothing could possibly go wrong"

Fucking japs too busy groping each other on the train to stop and think for 5 seconds

I wonder how a digital camera would work under those conditions

Shot experiment? What?

stick my penis in it and keep it in until i die from the radiation/heat.

Here's a fun fact. No matter when you were born, there are measurable amounts of what's in that picture in your body. No shit. Also, from every nuclear test and both Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
One of the ways old wines are verified is that they are tested for radioactive particles. If it is pre nuclear era, it is free of those measurable radioactive particles.
Look at cancer rates and clusters, you'll see their correlation to the nuclear era easily, well, if you get the accurate data.
The more you learn about nuclear science, physics and of the worlds various nuclear programs, the more you'll understand the real question of the Fermi Paradox by Enrico Fermi. Especially when you find out about Fermis warning to Slotin on his experiment with the Demon Core.

Back when it was too radioactive to get near, they had a guy shoot at it with a Kalashnikov to knock a chunk off to get a piece recovered for examination. Notice a piece in the photo with the guy taking pictures has been obviously knocked off and the rest is still intact.

Tfw no fibre optic gf

Interesting

what does the fermi paradox have to do with nuclear science?

You can’t go to bed dead, man. That shit would be redundant.

Russian intelligence

Wtf?

Fucking die. Unless I was immune to extreme radiation and the rogue gopniks of Ukraine

Also, they have specialised cameras that roll in unmanned in order to take videos wirelessly

Yeah, no. That's the elephants foot. Not some regular old wimpy radiation, you'll be dead in an hour if you're lucky.

Try the new iPhone, it'll take better pics

Enrico Fermi, for whom the paradox is named, was a key figure of the early American nuclear program and of nuclear science in general until his death. Fermi often warned people of doing foolish things with lethal consequences, like he did Slotin. If you know his style, you see the sly warning he gives the human race in the paradox. That warning has only become more clear as we now know water planets not only exist, but in vastly greater numbers than we even imagined in Fermis' day. So on top of everything else, the paradox has aged exponentially well along with our understanding of the universe.

Wisdom has a grace plain intelligence will never attain. Being truly smart means avoiding being a nerd. Fermi was no nerd.

How come HBO new miniseries Chernobyl never mention pic related?

I would imagine the digital cameras would fare better since CMOS/CCD would only register lights for a brief time while the film would be exposed the entire time it's there.
See Mars photos for examples.

The messed up part is that the access to this room is from the main elevator of the building. An elevator still used daily by staff and visitors like press.. Even crazier, the controls of the elevator aren't locked out to the floor of the Elephants Foot, and the doors open facing it and fairly close.

Too hard for normies to make sense of.

Seriously radiation is one of the most fucked up things out there.

Read up on Hisashi Ouchi. Basically an accident occurred where he got over twice the fatal radiation limit. His skin basically started melting off and his chromosomes were essentially obliterated.

i.imgur.com/1hH4zUh.jpg

They look like they're in pieces because they are.

They kept him alive for something like 80s and in between bouts of consciousness he begged for them to let him die.

I think this is him.

Attached: Radiation-exposure.jpg (1022x603, 94K)

A lot of my coworkers have visited Chernobyl. Hopefully I can make that trip one day.

"Ouchi" has to be the most ironic name ever.

nigga I don't have time to read a 65 page scientific report

youtube.comwatch?v=ssH9o32CZtg
The nuclear fuel rods contain a hugely dense amount of energy that is released autonomously on it's own due to radioactive decay. The more you heat it up, the more it releases it's energy, and can result in runaway heat, which is when the metal fuel rods melt and become molten, at such high temperatures as to penetrate thick concrete containment structures.
