Well he didn't get rich through scams, he did it with good ideas and good software and services like PayPal. That being said Tesla is going to belly up sooner or later, the cars they are building have no original tech in them, it's all licensed or open source and in turn can easily be ripped off and what cant, they pay royalties on. They aren't turning profits and their assembly plant is an OSHA nightmare. Chrysler has an 82 mpg Minivan on the road right now that is way more practical and way more efficient, hence the reason that Google/Waymo is using it and not a Tesla. SpaceX has cool tech and is making money off good ideas, but again it's all licensed from other companies. He doesn't own the rocket tech or the drone software, again it can easily be copied. He had the vision to combine the two and is having success, couple that with being established and turning profits make me think that most of his resources are heading to SpaceX.
