mainstream media and companies are heavily supportive in places where it is safe to be supportive, and being seen as one who doesn't support pride has negative repercussions.
I honestly worry about the younger generation being fooled into thinking that they are genuinely supported by these organizations. They don't give a shit about you fags, and if public opinion ever swung the other way, they'd turn on you in a heartbeat. Same for feminism, or whatever-ism these days. Gay here, for me I feel like there is alot of pressure from companies from a vocal minority. I don't give a shit if companies post a flag up on their website or logo, but there is a small group of people out there who scream about it, and the loss of customers from doing it vs retards screaming on twitter claiming that because you didn't post a flag, you must wish fags would die... the benefits for companies clearly outweigh the costs. I just want companies to provide me a product or service and stay out of politics. And the idea of proclaiming months on certain causes (like pride month, or black history month) is a terrible slippery slope.
Just keep in mind they don't really care, just want to stay out of the news for a stupid PR issue that isn't as much trouble as its worth.
I feel like you're right in a sense, and that the people who just were 'do your own thing as long as it doesn't effect me' people are going to have a counterreaction, but also has a bit of a point, in that it's kind of forcing people to be exposed to it, and thats also the problem. You don't want to force people to do anything. If they hate gays let them.
The "not hurting anyone" argument is pretty dumb, it's like joe schmoe raping dogs in his back yard and the neighbors just saying "it doesnt hurt anyone, so whatev". Clearly thats a hyperbole, but it illustrates the point that you can have a conversation about something that doesnt harm anyone. I would rather them not do it, it's not like it's saving gays when they post a stupid rainbow on their facebook page.

Why would it matter if someone thinks that they are being supported by these organizations. Plus I think it's pretty obvious. It's not like the act of posting a flag on your website turns you into a crusader of rights.

i mean, pride month celebrates all sexualities/identities, they literally celebrate one identity per day (for example, june 3rd was bisexual day), and a straight pride month would be celebrating one identity for an entire month. also straight pride month would be ford truck month if it existed
