Without doing the research, I'd say it does what most versatile monitor stands do: adjust height, rotate, pivot. However, I doubt it does anything else. Even if it did, no company other than Apple would sell such a thing for such a high price. Apple fanboys will try to justify it however they want, but the bottom line is the R&D and construction cost for this stand does not justify the price. It's a money grab and Apple knows they have a big enough fanbase that they'll get away with it.

Let's not forget that Apple doesn't always make the highest quality product. So, though we would expect that this be made of very high quality and be very durable, there's no guarantee. It's probably just made of mediocre material like most stands are.

While Apple lovers want to, insist on, making Apple products out to be of overpriced, but high quality, that is just not the case. Plenty of news stories out there with evidence of this.
