If they were not, I'm not sure that Russia would have been able to repel them. At the same time, the US was also fighting a war on two fronts. Say what you will about the Russians but research how absolutely committed the Japanese soldier was. They were a very difficult enemy - and before anybody says "atomic weapons", know that the US was set to invade the country of Japan after having taken Okinawa. Everybody was tough in that war. The world was just recovering from a very difficult economic depression and extreme poverty can make an individual pretty tough. Finally, the US did not have to join that battle at all. There was no imminent danger to the US from Germany. But they did join. And US citizens were killed and maimed in that war. It was a time when the values of the US were in line with the best of history - now, not so much.

Yes, Russia's efforts in the east helped the western allies. But the reverse is just as true. And the idea that communism could have been largely eradicated with the defeat of the USSR makes me wonder how bad it really would have been had Germany been successful in the east. Fuck the red scum. Maybe a National Socialist regime in Russia, as opposed to a communist one, would have been preferable.

I'm American and even I admit the Soviets did all the work against the Nazis and the best trained soldiers fighting for Germany were on the Eastern Front. The Allies faced a bunch of conscripted soldiers from Eastern Europe for the most part. WW2 was decidedly over after the Battle of Kursk in 1943. Any WW2 historian knows this.

the United states did not win the war in Europe. the Soviets did that. What you did was you cut the time to defeat the Germans by a year or two, and saved a lot more lives by using your undamaged industrial capacity to enable the Commonwealth, the Free French Belgian, and Dutch forces to retake their respective countries. No more.

And literally the only saving grace for Britain was their radar systems, allowing them to strike at German air forces before they could cause damage. If britain hadn't had that, the battle of britain would've been a critical success for the germans. It was literally only a matter of time before they took the British islands, and then expanded southward into africa, then further eastward or westward. This doesn't take a genius to figure out.
