it's ok, but you gotta open up your imagination otherwise it'll come off as cheesy

haven't watched it in years, may watch it again.

the incredible hulk is one of my favourites, along with original iron man, inception is good.. war of the worlds 2005, the day the earth stood still, the day after tomorrow, the shining, interstellar etc

Star Wars 8

>Contact 2.0
What a fucking trainwreck.

Attached: sicario.jpg (630x1200, 211K)

absolutely love this movie, if nor nothing else, the title cards. still, a 10/10 in my sober book.

Attached: the forbidden room.jpg (1052x1500, 1.43M)

>8/10
that movie was such garbage it's not even a 1/10
you have terrible taste in movies and are an idiot

Attached: 1484120733819.jpg (887x1097, 45K)

sicario is actually a 9.5/10. it's damn near perfect and ive watched it probably 10 times

Holy fuck your tastes are pathetic. I guarantee you fags had midnight tickets to endgame.
Jesus christ I hate this age of man-children. Lemme guess you're both a bit overweight.

Ben Stiller managed a serious role in this. Also Walter Mitty was an auts robot, based and relatable.

Arrival would have been interesting as a low budget chamber film. Instead as a blockbuster it came across totally shallow and completely unnecessary.

Attached: ED5ED353-D12B-495B-8307-8128446E342C.jpg (1726x2442, 333K)

If you like art and belletristic content you may enjoy this one. Pretty melanchonic.

I might also want to mention Mr. Nobody even though it develops very slowly.

Attached: MV5BNjM2OTI3NzQyNl5BMl5BanBnXkFtZTcwNjkzNzQ5MQ@@._V1_.jpg (972x1436, 202K)

I hated this movie. I love the artistic value of film and meaning in symbolism but goddamn this was pretentious. Couldn't stand it.

Attached: 98EE9515-665E-42DA-A4FF-3AEFD34AB7C4.jpg (426x597, 79K)

Really? The same movie would suddenly be great if it had cost less?

You are beyond retarded.

What the hell is this? This movie was allegely made in 2015 but it looks and sounds like it was made in the deep 1970ies. Even the plot is all weird.

Yes. If the movie had not relied on huge expensive sweeping visuals that made the whole fucking thing so grandiose and over the fucking top, the movie would have been better.
It made the movie look and feel fucking ridiculous.

Only Lovers Left Alive
Byzantium
Interview with the vampire
Melancholia

The Infinity Chamber
Otherlife
Mary Poppins
Hell or High Water
Band of Brothers (series but whatev)
About Time
Star Wars Episode IV
La Font Des Neiges
The Hitcher (Rutger Hauer version)
Buckaroo Banzai

Ok, but Endgame was actually very well done. The only pick I have with it is how it followed the laws of time travel, but at the same time it's a sci-fi movie with superheroes. It was as advertised. It was good. The only people who hate it are shitlords who lack the IQ to have fun with a fictional universe. Let me guess, you edit pictures until you find them funny by enlarging the noses of jewish people, and coding something insignificant that's already been done while you sip on la croix or god forbid faygo, exuding your elitist mentality towards the right list of house/electronic music.

Also I have connects because I'm not poor and watched it 3 days before it even came out on pre-release showings. You wouldn't understand. God damn niggers.

You are watching films that treat you like a child.

I watched those films I grew up reading the comics of as a child. Movies are meant to be an escape. I don't feel as if I'm being treated like a child, I feel nostalgia. Not everyone has to like the same shit, kid.

May God have mercy on you.

don't you think nostalgia feels kind of squishy, especially when its been out of the fridge for too long?

Long ass movie

No. Everyone who isn't inept at life has something they experience nostalgia over. Whether it's a video game from the 90's or a comic book from the 70's.

this was the most badass shit ever

Attached: 91--yN6IyTL._SX342_.jpg (342x431, 30K)

so you don't think it feels kinda squishy if you leave it on the counter, like while you're watching wheel of fortune, and then you go back, and the nostalgia melted a little bit?

have you ever heard of nostalgia? you may not like them, they just aren't your taste. i get youre wanting to be unique and quirky.

you posted emma watson, your opinion is automatically void

Blade Runner 2049

trips dont lie, one of the best horror movies ever made

Shaving Ryan’s private’s

The Cube
Interstellar
2001 Space Odyseey
Call Me By Your Name

How the fuck can you like 3 great movies and then fucking Interstellar.
That movie is hot trash. Nolan is a garbage man.

Sunshine is so great. My one major gripe is they it turns in to a bit of a monster movie at the end.

No shit. All of these mainstream films are piles of hot corporate garbage designed to make money. The last good marvel movie was Iron Man 1, and that's even pushing it.

Justifying your movie tastes with "nostalgia" just points you out as someone who enjoys being infantilized by money grabbing corporations.
Jesus fuck our planet is doomed.

Crimson Tide
Dredd
Downfall
Casablanca
Spartacus

this

I liked Dredd a lot.

This movie is disgustingly underrated.

Attached: download (1).jpg (800x1199, 452K)

I liked Interstellar because it got me thinking and was one of the few scientifically accurate sci-fi films I've come across. I'll agree it was probably more of a guilty pleasure film for me, but the ending scene with Cooper once he passes the event horizon brought me straight back to the claustrophobia of the ending of 2001 Space Odyseey gave me. The ending message though was optimistic trash however "love extends all realms" will agree that's garbage. But it's a fun movie to watch nonetheless.

while you could say it's not as faithful to 2000AD as it might be, Urban fucking nailed the Dredd role

Lemme guess, the mass majority of your cultural diet comes from video games made post 2005?
You are the generation of press A to defuse bomb. Everything you have ever grown up with has been made to feed your dopamine receptors and make you docile addict of cheap quick stimulation.
Dredd was garbage.

I don't know why I fucked that reply up.

If you look at the animated Alladin compared to this "live action" shit show that was released this last week, it's the perfect anology for how corporate movies are ruling because mainstream audiences don't give a fuck about good movies... they just want something relevant and nostalgic. Look at Wreck It Ralph, compared to Wreck it Ralph 2. One was an amazing nod towards classic video games with a decent plot whole the other was a mess of pop culture references that were supposed to compensate for a lack of a plot or story for that matter. Point is, I lose respect for anyone that likes films coming out of Mickey Mouse's asshole.

what was so garbage about it?

kek

Attached: 1557544529176.jpg (198x225, 6K)

Guardians of the Galaxy. People don't get James Gunn. Ronan is fucking bathing in the blood of the people he kills in the first 15 minutes into this movie. And it is a fucking Marvel movie. Think about that.

Nah they just know they can churn out any piece of shit and when mommy and daddy take the kids to the cinema they don’t give a fuck.

deep down nobody means that. Nobody says 8 and means it.

I wasn't much of a fan of district 9. I just couldn't stop the words "apartheid! apartheid! look at me i'm the thinnest possible allegory for apartheid!" going round and round in my head.
I'm not a subtle guy but god damn being beaten over the head with it was just distracting.

Its just set piece after set piece, a movie constructed like levels in a video game. Characters have zero motivation outside of "their job." The plot is thin to the point of childlike obviousness. Go from point A to point B, overcoming bad guys along the way. It is how I constructed stories with action figures as a child. There is zero surprise, intrigue or any emotional arc whatsoever. It is literally built to simply string along action sequence after action sequence with zero investment in any of it. There is no reason to care if Dredd lives or dies. The film does nothing that the comics did to make the character interesting.

planet is doomed because someone likes a Marvel film? Maybe our planet is doomed cause your parents are pro life incest fucks

regardless if we like it or not, they're still gonna produce shit movies. get over your shit stained life. no one gives a fuck

My Man Godfrey, The Thin Man, Godfather 1&2, The Quiet Man, Patton, She Wore a Yellow Ribbon, The Wrestler, What Dreams May Come, The Sting, A River Runs through It, The Verdict, The Color of Money, Good Will Hunting, Dead Poets' Society, Chariots of Fire, Guess Who's Coming to Dinner, In the Heat of the Night

Quiet Man is a fun movie. Fucking love Chariots of Fire too.

See your response is an expression of the very issue at hand. You are incapable of only the most simplistic connections, you are incapable of critical thought, everything must be spelled out literally for you: Marvel films are only the symptom of a larger plague, that of Adults who have grown up but remain children, desiring nothing more than to return to their childhoods and be assuaged by mass media who will deliver it to them. The next thing you are going to say is "Movies are supposed to be entertaining." or "What's wrong with a little escapism?" Missing the point entirely of how large this issue has become breaking record after record at box office and the endless feedback loop of movie studios moving further and further into this garbage territory of film with massive budgets and people buying midnight tickets and then justifying it saying "I like my nostalgia." This is a decadent and failing culture.

The book is awesome and the film does an excellent job too.

yeah fucking loved the dropkicks

Kingdom of Heaven has real historical characters portrayed as one dimensional nutcases. Has the Christians looking for war. Nevermind a blacksmith becomes a military genius, civil engineer and expert warrior in a few months.

Gladiator. Has Romans using ridiculous battle tactics. Total bullshit about real historical characters. Has unrealistic journeys given the time. Imagine, the emperor gets killed and no civil war, no factions start fighting over who gets power. Maximus would cause the deaths of millions across the empire.

Braveheart is also shit.

All of Terry gilliams films. Especially the latest one and Brazil.
Cornetto trilogy

This, watched twice.
And it's free as well.

Quality

So with Gladiator, after the first emperor's death (Richard Harris' character), he is quickly replaced by the heir to his throne (Joaquin Phoenix's character). When his character dies at the end, so too does Maximus and the film ends right there. There is no mention of civil war as the character arcs had finished up by then and by adding that it would have padded out the movie and people would've become bored by that time because the civil war/ new heir would have most likely just become politics and people would've been bored at that point (the film is already 2h35m long not including extended cuts of the film).

With KoH i can somewhat see what you are coming from as i can agree some of the real people were kinda 1D, however i doubt we have very much information about said characters. The Christians werent entirely looking for a war as they were trying to defend Jerusalem. If you watch the extended/directors cut (not really sure what they named it, i think it is called the director's cut) it explains a lot more although its like another hour and 10 mins and Ridley Scott has said that it is the definitive/much better version.

Watched it. Got too weird. I like realistic war films. Fury could have been brilliant but the set piece at the end didn't convince me. Ive seen the tiger from the film at a museum. Magnificent machine.

The Saddest Music in the World

I like Gilliam's films, but finally watched Brazil and didn't think it was that good.

Shaun of Dead is a classic.
Hot Fuzz is good after a doob.
The World's End was a film too far.

Very true bro. But people are thick as shit in the neck of a bottle, and nobody ever went bankrupt by underestimating the intelligence of the general public. The war was lost a long time ago.

They fucking made us watch this movie in rehab, what a pretentious piece of trash

Except I've liked Gilliam's films, since I was a little kid, so I should have acquired the taste already. But Brazil did nothing for me.

That one was something. Especially in todays big production robot controlled cinema it stood out for me.

There would be a power vacuum. The heir apparent is too young. There would be fight for control. It happened time and again. If it was a total work of fiction I could have lived with it. Richard Harris's character died of natural causes and Commodus was strangled by a wrestler in his bath. He was considered an odd emperor but by the standards not so bad. He was strangled because he was bringing the reputation of emperor down by participating in lower class activities.

Koh. I see your point but the actual fabric of the film is fundamentally flawed. An illiterate blacksmith who had not travelled more than 5 miles from his village becomes a skilled horseman, warrior, civil engineer, diplomat in a few months?

Kek. But the tiger wasn't indestructible. It could be penetrated by the 75mm Sherman from the side, at ranges up to 500m and when they attack the anti tank guns it doesn't make sense. But the spirit is good.

Great film. I'm ain't proud but I had numerous wanks over the part where Jacobs girlfriend dances with that guy and he turns into a demon. Obviously it was the girlfriend I was interested in. Sadly the actress died a while ago. V sad.

I was sitting eating my lunch at the car park near this when an old guy walked over and spat at it never forget the British army just left all their tanks in north Africa when they left for Italy

Man i tried, but couldn’t get into Dunkirk. I fell asleep somewhere around the middle and been meaning to give it another shot. It just didnt have his style to it. The weird, magic realism vibe his movies have.

Not so much a fan of horror but ill give it a go some day

Gladiator: Don't quote me on this however i do believe that there have been younger emperors throughout history (wasnt the last emperor of china like 12 when he was set on the throne?) although i can see where you are coming from with it as i do agree that there most likely would've been a power struggle if this had legitimately happened. I can see where you are coming from with the death of Commodus and Richard Harris' character, but i believe Ridley knew that if Commodus was simply strangled in the tub the film would've done bad as it would've been anti-climactic and Maximus' character arc wouldve been bullshit if he hadnt gotten his revenge for the murder and rape of his wife and the murder of his son.

KoH: i can agree that it is somewhat absurd that he gets so well trained in such a short period of time, however i wouldn't put it out of the question if he trained every day from dawn to dusk. If they had clarified it or maybe had a montage of sorts it wouldve made more sense.

Was my favourite Star Wars movie when I was 7. Crying teddy bears got me.

People are entitled to their own tastes and as are you and you both are free to disagree with each other. However just because people disagree with you doesnt mean that you should bash them personally.

True but I think the music and the editing were great.

Yea it wasn’t bad at all. I just wasnt as into it as Nolan’s other films. I wanna give it another viewing in the near future.

I watched a documentary about British tank crews and one old fella said after the North Africa campaign they got home and were told they were having new tanks after facing Tigers in Tunisia. When they saw the tanks, Churchill's iirc they almost deserted because the gap in ability was so great. I also recall they either Eisenhower or Montgomery had to directly address allied tank crews after D Day because of mauling they got from Tigers, panzerfausts and panzershrecks. Soldiers were refusing to use their tanks.

godfather 1 & 2 then this

Yeah the gap in both armour and armament was huge and the Sherman had a stupid engine which made it sit very high the Germans had better tanks and the first jets ww2 was a lot closer run than many believe

It's a good film, it actually captures what the war felt like and the veterans who went and saw it said that it was actually rather accurate to the legitimate event

There's been plenty of British monarchs who were children when handed the throne but they'd have "advisors" to guide them. So they'd have the throne and sometimes they'd want to keep the power by killing the rightful heir. I forget the details. But the film was portrayed as fact, a historical film. But even the way the Romans fought at the start was complete bullshit.

Knights trained from the age of 6 or 7. They were even trained in how to breathe while wearing armour. Nevermind how to fight from horseback(even if could ride a horse and that's not that likely, don't forget warhorses would have been fierce, powerful animals. The same difference between an everyday hatchback and a formula 1 car , use a sword etc. It took years of hard training. The montage has been killed since Team America took the piss out of it. That's a great film too.

Donnie Darko. It's a masterpiece and you have to watch it several times to comprehend.

seemed like a good dude until the racism and bragging

signs had its moments. but there were flaws.
what a collar wearing pedo catholic and not just a pastor, for example.

Worth the watch. You are a macabre user

I think I've seen it. Wasn't there a high speed "trench run" like in Star Wars? I seem to recall a space craft going really fast over a planet between skyscrapers etc.

It's so fucking kino

nah wrong movie dark star was really slow burning they just wandered aimlessly around the galaxy blowing up rogue planets
youtube.com/watch?v=lwISbJfRNz0
cheesy as fuck but some good laughs to

Sherman had an aeroplane engine. Use petrol. Thin armour. Germans called them Tommy Cookers. The Russians gave them to their allies or to units in quiet areas because they were so shit they didn't want to waste trained Russians in them.

>>The Lobster
How is the movie? Quirky? Metaphorical? I have a bucket list but it seems weird as hell. What's it comparable to?

>Kingdom of Heaven
Like Alexander, only the director's cut is good. More balanced but longer.

i actually do think sicario belongs in my top 3-5 films

not sure what i'd compare it to but it was an extremely rare treat.
I really liked "the grey" - the plane crash at the start i thought the sound stage was perfect with headphones on

name a movie faggot

That's part of the story. The kids a fag and dad has to do all the manly stuff. As the story goes on the kid becomes less of a twat

yup we got by on numbers but that was very unfair on tank crews just goes to show the yanks had way better manufacturing capacity but if the design isn't as good as the enemies you will suffer

At least Alexander had quite realistic battle scenes.

Can’t really compare it to anything to be honest. It’s all about societies pressure to be in a stable relationship and the alienation if you aren’t. It’s absurd, dreamlike, funny and a lot of the women are willing to be fucked in the arse.

Eternal sunshine of the spotless mind
Silent running

I can see your point with KoH and i will restate that i too believe it is ludacris that he gets so well trained in such a short period of time. Maybe if they had done a flash forward to 5 or so years later it wouldve been more realistic.

I believe Commodus was deemed too old for an advisor and i can somewhat agree and disagree with that, like if he had an advisor that was made just as a side character or had put the film a few years after he had become emperor and had outgrown (would that be the correct word for this?) his advisor it wouldve been more realistic and more historically accurate/would have made a bit more sense.

However period pieces are rarely historically accurate and while usually are stories that may have happened, they most likely did not however we were not present at said events so while it is possible Commodus had an advisor that was considered for the film, he was most likely cut for either pacing or possibly just being a mostly meaningless character.

Kino. Couldn't agree more. Like this user said the dance scene is so memorable

sure, at the end he pointed a gun at meth-head Brad Pitt, but still was an irredeemable cunt.
