or you could say those men were stupid

why did that single one survive?

Blame their fathers.

Managed to return the carrier with heavy damage. So "luck"

Obviously untrue, there are still strong leaders and hard working folks in every generation thus far.

But, society has turned against men, so many have walked away. I'm definitely guilty of this. My only goal is to escape society and not have to contribute anymore. Give me another couple of years, I'm golden.

so it was a suicide mission from the beginning? then i don't get op's pic.

Yeap, doing exactly the same, gl man.

Freedom that they defended was not the freedom to be CONSCRIPTED.

why? because now we don't have to die to still get the job done? boomers are literally retarded.

GL to you too. How many years do you have on the clock?

what are you guy's even talking about? death, pension, wizardhood?

American carrier aircraft had difficulty locating the target, despite the positions they had been given. The strike from Hornet, led by Commander Stanhope C. Ring, followed an incorrect heading of 265 degrees rather than the 240 degrees indicated by the contact report. As a result, Air Group Eight's dive bombers missed the Japanese carriers.[87][88] Torpedo Squadron 8 (VT-8, from Hornet), led by Lieutenant Commander John C. Waldron, broke formation from Ring and followed the correct heading. The 10 F4Fs from Hornet ran out of fuel and had to ditch.[89]
Devastators of VT-6 aboard USS Enterprise being prepared for take off during the battle

Waldron's squadron sighted the enemy carriers and began attacking at 09:20, followed at 09:40[90] by VF-6 from Enterprise, whose Wildcat fighter escorts lost contact, ran low on fuel, and had to turn back.[89] Without fighter escort, all 15 TBD Devastators of VT-8 were shot down without being able to inflict any damage. Ensign George H. Gay, Jr. was the only survivor of the 30 aircrew of VT-8. VT-6 lost nine of its 14 Devastators (one ditched later), and 10 of 12 Devastators from Yorktown's VT-3 (who attacked at 10:10) were shot down with no hits to show for their effort, thanks in part to the abysmal performance of their unimproved Mark 13 torpedoes.[91] Midway was the last time the TBD Devastator was used in combat.[92]

The operation was not intended as a suicide attack, but the equipment and timing was terrible. The US won the battle in the end FYI.

I believe we're talking about a combination of MGTOW and FIRE

so these guys died for stupid reasons and probably left no offspring. are you prasing or condemming stupid bravery.

People had kids at like 16 back in the day.

It is more complicated than just simple stupid bravery. You have to fight the battles with the weapons you have. They did their best despite the limitations of the equipment and of the other adverse factors. War is always a little tragedy played out over and over. I admire and respect the men while deploring the factors that forced them to be there.

yeah, i said exactly that in less words, you donkey.

Some additional context about the operation.

Nonetheless, their sacrifice was not completely in vain, as several TBDs managed to get within a few ship-lengths range of their targets before dropping their torpedoes, being close enough to be able to strafe the enemy ships and force the Japanese carriers to take sharp evasive maneuvers.[21] By obliging the Japanese to keep their flight decks clear and to continually cycle and reinforce their combat air patrols, they prevented any Japanese counter-attacks against the American carriers, just as Spruance had anticipated. These windows of opportunity were exploited by the late-arriving Douglas SBD Dauntless dive bombers led by Lieutenant Commander C. Wade McClusky and Max Leslie, which dive-bombed and fatally damaged three of the four Japanese carriers about one hour after the first TBD torpedo attacks had developed.[22] While the Devastators faced the stiff defenses of the carriers and their fighters, their attacks served to distract the Japanese attention from the Dauntless dive bombers' strikes, resulting in relatively lighter resistance from the IJN carriers' defensive fighter patrols, and more effective American attacks that crippled the IJN carrier forces.

Sacrifice is necessary for wider success.

However modern men are, it's because being that way is the most successful strategy found so far.

Dying in combat is great for inspiring patriotic awe, but pretty shit for ensuring you have lots of offspring who make it to adulthood with values they can live by and skills they can support themselves with.

>useless

OP's idea of being useful.

The thing about back then vs. now is that Japanese culture at the time was truly a never surrender culture, so once they attacked Pearl Harbor, they were going to be committed to see things through.

That’s why Truman knew he had to unleash the most devastating weapon ever used in the history of the world twice. That’s what it took to force a surrender.

Also, it goes without saying that once Japanese culture had surrender, it began Veer down into an entire pathetic fetish based existence that brought us tentacle porn, waifu pillows, anime, etc.

Huh what??

If there was a draft in the USA in 2019 (and a big war to fight), it would alter the culture forever. Because if you thought there were draft dodgers in the 60’s, you’ve seen nothing yet.

Also, think about the lengths the super rich go to get their kids into colleges......imagine what they would pull to get their kids out of the draft.

You’d have mass fraud bought and paid for with doctors all over the country.

If you read it again slowly, and still don't get it, there's not much anyone can do for you, user.

>certain people did certain things in the past
>you are not doing those certain things
>you are a wuss

Flawless logic.

All that fetish shit was cause by western society after we torched their asses and tried to "modernize" then. Tentacles started to be used in place of penises because they were told they couldn't draw dicks cause it would be too risque.

Actually the second bomb wasn't necessary since they already wanted to surrender after the first.

Unless it goes the other way where it becomes a status symbol to have a dead war hero kid. They already do it with drug overdoses.

mmmhm I don't have to throw myself into the fray to fight the japanese grandpa war is over.

Modern men kill and die at the hands of their modern overlords just the same as in the 40s. Coincidentally, the same overlords.
The brainwashing is just different now. Before it was nationalism, patriotism. Now its multiculterism and socialism. The rhetoric and propaganda changes with the tides, the goal always remains the same. Notice our perpetual March towards centralization of power, regardless of which "party" is in power.
Notice that every nation worth mention, and plenty that aren't, are all indebted to the same small group of organizations that all have the same goal.
All just coincidence, I'm sure.
