according to the works of Tolkien, all kinds of races and ethnicities we know on Earth exist in Middleearth too and places like Laketown are pretty much multi-cultural/multi-ethnic like other great trade hubs and ports always have been on Earth. It's realistic, really.

in LoTR, the books, there's only vague descriptions of ethnicities and the only one mentioned and described as white/european are Rohan, Gondor, the Dunedain etc.whereas the ones from the south lands are described as black and/or swarthy -which again is very much realistic considering geography, but LoTR doesn't mention places like Laketown, it's mentioned in The Hobbit and other places where ethnicites mingle and mix are mentioned in Silmarillion and in Lost Tales etc.

In The Hobbit (movie) you actually see several black and brown people in Laketown, which is totally in line with Tolkien's desciptions.

Middle Earth is the northwestern continent of the planet that the Lord of the Rings is set on (it's at roughly the same latitude as Europe).
The black people that live on that world live in the south, in Harad, and do come into the tales briefly.
But the story is set in the northern hemisphere, so that's why there really aren't any black people.
