I think the majority of shootings now is built up frustration from white men. The media does everything In its power to make sure white males don’t have a voice anymore. I'm more curious about what the motive was and more about the shooter. Sounds like it was an older guy who was pissed off at the government or his city. There was a mass stabbing in Japan just a few days ago that killed a man and young girl, and injuring a dozen or so more children. There's a shitload in the UK as well. Taking guns away doesn't stop mass killing.

Because our country refuses to talk about WHY people commit mass shootings and instead chooses to argue about guns because guns are real and tangible and easy to understand. None of the talking heads have a clue as to what motivates these people so it's the elephant in the room. Guns are not at all easily available in Europe so we see knife or machete attacks and trucks being rammed into crowds by terrorists but never by highschool kids attacking their classmates. Americans point to European gun control as to the lack of mass murder because they don't want to entertain the thought that maybe the lack of attacks abroad has more to do with their students not having any desire to commit mass violence and less to do with the availability of firearms. Because then we would have to admit that ONLY our kids are the ones with a problem.

I think it’s a product of society in general. In eras gone by it was hard to survive and people had to work or die, they had their hands full farming, hunting or performing a trade to get what they needed to live. Stronger and more intelligent people did well. With industry making life easier, populations exploded. In the end as with any bell curve you ended up with a larger group of less intelligent people. Society embraces what the majority agrees with, so you end up with role models that portray “I’m special”. Stories, movies, and media give every single person a sense that the world owes them something and that they are special. The reality is you are one person in a civilization and you will have successes and failures. Society also values style over substance every second of everyday. “I’m cooler than you” “I’m the best” and everyone is out to prove that by ramping up the aggression. You call me a name, I’ll show you I’ll hit you. Oh yeah, I’ll stab you!, oh yeah (insert mass shooting here). This isn’t a firearm issue it’s a people issue. It’s harder to work out problems and find compromise or solutions to problems than to say “I’ll show them”. A paintbrush in someone’s hand can paint a beautiful picture or paint the word “shit” on a wall, it’s dependent on the Operator. We hold things dear that defend us: fire alarms, locks on our doors, law enforcement. People tend to view mass shootings as a way to propel their own point of view but in the end they are only viewing the entire situation with tunnel vision. Maybe someday society will band together and value intelligence over ego and there’s no telling what we can accomplish.

A smart person isn't much of a danger with a knife. Get him on a bad day though, he or she could lose it and stab someone. Just as any person on just one bad day could pick up a gun and kill or hurt many with a lot more ease should they have access to a gun. Or multitudes of them.

Often people say that maybe we should ban cars because of the ease of which some people have started to use them to run down others in cold blood. Now we all know this is silly because we need vehicles for our society to function. But we do train and teach people to use cars. We need a licence to drive. We could ban civilian guns since society doesn't actually need them to operate, but we all know that's not gonna happen.
