History grad here, aside from not hanging my self with my "useful" degree I did learn some useful things before going into business.

What is true, and perhaps more scary, is that we are missing thousands of years of documents, poetry, medical knowledge, architecture,technology and history. Entire civilizations have only been partially noted. This does not mean that there were aliens or even Atlantis, but that humans were more or less the same as today and tried a variety of different things.

A good example is the Antikythera machine, a 2000 year old Greek computer for determining the position of the stars, planets, horoscope etc. The only other spooky ones I can currently think of are the Bagdad batteries (mostly debunked), the ancient roman railroad (a small steam engine was reportedly built by destroyed by workers fearing for their jobs) and the Mayan astrological calendar.

Egypt goes back further. Many of their oldest temples and structures are built upon much, much older structures that are hard to date except by weathering. They are at least ~12000 years old. The civ around Gobekli Tepe is also from around this era. The end of the last ice age really fucked a lot of humanity up.
