What you have to do is use tor for a longer period of time and for much different stuff, generate as much tor traffic as possible (watch YouTube videos, browse b, etc) while that its nearly impossible (unless you have control over a vast amount of entry and exit nodes) to track you

i have a separate laptop that i only use for tor, i use it in different spots and that laptop has never opened my email or any social media, also it's kept in a locker far away from home without it's battery

In Tor there is no way to map your internet activities to your address, meaning no way to reckognize common behavior. The only problem is if you only use tor for some things. E.g. the case in California where the guy did the bomb threat at his uni, he logged into tor, send the threat mail, and logged of. All they had to do to find him was Check who logged in while the time of sending. If he would have used tor all day long it would have been impossible to find him

Impossible is a big word. It's true that none of the nodes are aware of the path, and so you can't find the origin by analyzing the network (assuming you've somehow compromised much of the network), but your computer might still get tricked into revealing its IP. All the network annonymity in the world won't help you if there is a script with the authority to ask your machine what it's IP is.

Poor example, if not cherry-picked. That method worked in that instance because they had a reasonable assumption of where to start looking for who might have sent the threat (someone on campus) and had free access to all the traffic of those users, and so could see who was accessing an entry node and when and for how long. If you're going to make a bomb threat, first of all don't, it wastes tons of money and diverts law enforcement from what you want them to be doing, but also don't do it from a place that will obviously be put under a microscope afterward.

But what your suggesting users do is better hide themselves from a timing attack, which is rarely practical and so is a low threat, by doing more general web browsing, which exposes them to a higher risk of identification via browsing habits or just making a mistake and logging into social media, both of which are already higher threats.

If your location is found while using tor, you probably won't take solace in the fact that it wasn't tor's fault that your IP leaked. The point is that even using tor correctly isn't an annonymity slam dunk. People shouldn't get the impression that tor is so well designed that you can let your guard down while using it.
