Whether you hate it or not...

Whether you hate it or not, DLC provides games with additional content that otherwise would not have made it into the base game. DLC often brings new light or even sparks a "rebirth" or revival in a franchise, giving a fan base satisfaction and hope in future game releases. Other times DLC will completely flop and anger communities or gamers as a whole.

What is your favorite DLC or addition to a video game?

I'd say mine is Zombies Chronicles for BO3 as it basically revived zombies for a while, while the community rejoiced seeing everyone (and newcomers) enjoy the content, value, and promise it brought. Treyarch made a killing too.

Sage

Dead of the night or gtfo

haven't played that map - the DLC also had other stuff unrelated to zombies though right?

cod is complete ass.

true, but i liked the zombies aspect

Best DLC is any of the story Fallout NV ones (other than Dead Money). A fully new game world, new additions to the story, weapons, etc. Amazing value, for amazing DLC, basically.

Only dlc i ever needed was halo 2 map pack you could buy at the store. You cunts are the reason they dont add more content cuz they can drain pay fags later. thanks for that.

Nice! yeah that was great value

I've only bought DLC a handful of times, and only when it was a small pack or single thing I REALLY wanted - not some fucking season pass or some shit

Undead nightmare?

that's actually a really good one, almost felt like a new game

bump

Now if only its cost were included with the base game, some people wouldn't care. Having to pay for DLC is retarded IMO, it's just a cash grab and half the time they already have the DLCs mostly or completely finished by launch. They just release them later to get your money and keep the game in your mind.

>ive only done it a handful of times
>guize im not part of the problem i swear

very true - but wouldn't it be nice to have a big influx of players back into the game, assuming it has been a while after the game release? I guess that's one of, if not only upside.

unfortunately time has progressed where everything is online, and you no longer buy DLC at brick and mortar game shops. Game companies use this to their advantage as it's almost seamless and expected today

my concern with dlc is the pervasive nature of it's expanse in the last few years, and it's potential in the future to grow further into the core aspects of games that love. I look at a game like gta which has been making billions for rockstar just off of the shark cards, I fear that no matter how much the individual people at the studio care may care about crafting a really great story with compelling characters and a beautifully rendered immersive world, that the pressure from shareholders and the corporate executives to produce higher and higher returns will strip the quality of future titles by making the developers focus more and more of their limited resources not only on online aspects that can be easily monetized, but on core gameplay mechanics that give advantage or a substantially more fun experience only to those who pony up big money.

Perhaps, just wish it didn't come at the expense of more coin. I'd just rather them focus on the next installment or move on to a new series if I have to pay anyways.

And if no one bought any of it we wouldnt have this problem. Now before you say it will never happen, look at the loot box debacle

i agree 100%. DLC is like a double-edged sword but now it's mainly cringe when you hear DLC/micro-transactions $$$

Go outside and talk to girls.

I think loot boxes are completely acceptable if they only provide cosmetic stuff i.e. nothing that impacts gameplay.

i guess free dlc is the way, and the way to mass respect. But every company has pressure from shareholders and corporate executives for $$$, like the other user mentioned

No loot boxes are a shit idea even for cosmetics

my wife's boyfriend got me a bo4 season pass so i don't have to talk to any, retard

I can agree with this, unironically. People love whining about MUH DLC but they still buy it and wonder why companies like EA pump out low effort reiterations of their previous games. The gaming industry is full of fucking dolts, nowadays. Just go peek into Yea Forums for about 5 minutes and see what i mean.

well if a company has to make money, i'd rather them do it that way than charging for ridiculous shit or dlc for the price of a new game

if some fag wants Mercy to have a no shoes cosmetic so he can jack it to feet then that's his deal at his expense

So instead of content being in the game costume or story or otherwise youre willing to shell out money.

gamers are dead

but actually are

i'd pay for good content to support good decisions, also hoping they don't charge a shit ton of money for minimal effort dlc

Forced shitpost meme.

.
DLC that I will never buy is cosmetic, like gun skins. DLC that makes sense to pay for are songs for rhythm games. It is just like buying a song, but it is playable. Some games also have tons of free DLC. I find it to be mostly positive unless a company is using it to complete an unfinished game. Buy what you want, skip the rest. The only true downside is that secret levels aren't much of a thing anymore.

>Just go peek into Yea Forums for about 5 minutes
>Chinks shilling some botnet
>Discord trannies everywhere
>smashfags who don't seem to ever get off Yea Forums
>The rest are elitist pricks who don't even play games
Who exactly is buying dlc out of that group?

>What is your favorite DLC or addition to a video game?
Brood War
But back then I think we called dlc something different, and they provided a little bit more content

Big this. Weapon skins have literally become a market. Ill happily buy some extra gameplay if the price is right. Even then, you can always for the price to deflate. Its the same as if you spent money on a game. What annoys me to no end is that its a trend to buy skins for games and if you dont youre a "default player". The most infamous cases being fortnite and roblox. Ive seen countless videos where kids will actively seek to shit on other kids who didnt borrow mommy's debt to buy some stupid in-game dance animation that lasts all of five seconds.

I was making two seperate points. Yea Forums and the gaming industry are full of spergs that lack any sort of self awareness. The issue with cosmetic skins is universal, hence, it became an entire market. Want a good example for the skins, as well? CS:GO gambling system. Enough said.

Brood War was a fucking sequel. Too bad I suck at StarCraft. Couldn't beat base games Zerg 2.

So a fully fleshed out game no DLC required

>Brood War was a fucking sequel
It was an expansion, back when that meant something.
But yeah, paying $15 for half an hour of additional content is just as good, right?

This guy gets jt
>lets pay 20 bucks for some extra story I'll beat in 2 hours

Yeah, I know it was an expansion, I was just talking content-wise.

>sequel
>expansion
>content-wise
I dont think you know what these words mean

Okay. You can stop trying so hard, now.

Trying hard for what?

I was guessing that you were. I said that in order to compare bw with what passes as 'expansion dlc' these days
