Then because he couldn't walk, he crawled down the beach and hid under a bridge and was left for dead for 3 days. Because of the extreme fatigue he eventually couldn't stay awake and any noise kept waking him the whole time and he was alone and was afraid he was going to get killed.

Until the day he died if anyone tried to wake him up (including his wife or close friends/family) he would immediately try to kill them.
