the nicest city in germany on most levels is munich. gorgeous, clean, lots to do, lots to see, easy to get around. cosmopolitan, lovely. it wins the nicest city in the world to live in from time to time (vienna, munich, zurich all consistently win).

berlin is cool, but too big and too grafitti covered for my personal taste. also a boring old fag w kids so i prefer smaller quainter areas.

nuernberg, wiesbaden, heidelberg are also super nice cities. hamburg too.

id live in all those places, tho the weather in hamburg is like seattle. sorta gray and shit most of the year.

the most expensive places usually tend to be the nicest and capitals like munich, berlin and hamburg are no suprises to be good (beside the slum like poor quarters)

"inexpensive" and "nice" like you said tend tobe kinda hard to match up. Or if they're nice and cheap, theres not much going on there so its hard to live there since theres not a lot of work around. Anywhere where theres jobs, things get pricier. Same anywhere, DE is no different.

Wiesbaden and Nuernberg are both nice towns and not too pricy. Bamberg and Rothenburg are picturesque, but not much going on economically. and yeah Heidelberg isnt cheap either, but its not sooo bad. Its not stutgart frankfurt munich...
