I thought it was great. The writing suffered in the last 2 but the 8th season was still better than than the 3rd season of most dramas.

I didn't watch it other than times with friends but to say it was never good is dumb.

Not only that but I'd imagine DVD and Bluray sales will also take a massive hit. Nobody wants to watch or rewatch a show when they know it ended poorly

A good writer has a vague idea of what he’ll be writing about a hundred pages from now. But these shows don’t allow that kind of thinking. They have whole teams of writers and a lot of the time they’re just coming up with shit as they go. This makes it a total crapshoot when you’re trying to make something like a story arc that lasts longer than a single season, or a good build to a single, obvious climax. Or even something as simple as building characters. In this episode format, they could, and do, spend an entire episode following one fairly minor character, and still, most people will barely remember that episode 3 or 4 seasons from now.

It forces them to treat it like a hundred different stories as opposed to one big one, from the writers standpoint. Add in the fact that you’re trying to get a whole room of writers to agree on something, you’re basically dooming yourself to sub-par storytelling abilities from the start.

Read or listen to audiobooks if you want a proper story
