I'm an American and the only people who think the American health system is the "Best in the world" are inbred hill folk who make just enough money to spend half of it on a ridiculously overpriced heath insurance package. The truth is these types of people fear socialized health care because their parents would occasionally mention how evil of a thing it was when they weren't busy beating their children's bare asses with a leatherbound bible.
We have socialized health care in America, but it's run by the hospitals, not the government. Hospitals legally have to offer emergency medical care to patients regardless of their ability to pay. Poor folks come in, get medicine, imaging procedures, nursing care, food, and whatever else they need, then they fill out the indigent care paperwork and that debt gets written off. To compensate, the hospitals drastically inflate the cost of these procedures so that when someone actually can afford to pay, they are really just paying it forward. The only real difference between this healthcare system and the traditional socialized healthcare system is that the middle class gets fucked over significantly harder than they would have otherwise.
