Not OP but the inverted cross is a symbol of being opposite of Christian teachings. St Peter was (possibly) crucified upside down so as to not die like Jesus. Either way it’s to not be like Jesus, just for different reasons.

But St Peter was probably crucified on an X shaped cross and had no option as to choose.
