I dig this a lot. I hope this catches on.
This is the story of a man named Stanley

These places would be paradise & hell at the same time
This is some SCP tier shit right here

this really is interesting,
can anyone give a backstory about "backrooms"?
thisbis in my city in Alabama it's got a couple shops in it, a place that sells stuff for iron fences and where you get your ID and license plus some smaller random shops too I'll try to find a pic I took
Desire to know more increases.
Backrooms are the places that the devs never finished. They got lazy and just dumped them out of bounds where players couldn't get to them, but some people have figured out how to glitch into them at certain spots. Make sure you know how to get out though, the labyrinth that are the "backrooms" are extensive and you could get lost
Don't get lost.
give me some time to extract my photo archives
Where at in Bama?
Second this
I've got some stuff I saved from a thread with soviet era urban decay. Let me do some digging.
not backroom
Albertville Alabama, I have pics but the res is too high to post.
Third, this sounds fucking sweet. A lot of potential
cool af
Metro: Exodus has such good graffix
For the uninitiated, slipping into the backrooms is an easy mistake to make. You don't even realize that you're transitioning. But then you start to notice odd little things.
The lack of other people around is an obvious clue. But there are subtler signs. Things out of place. Doors that lead nowhere. It's around this time that mild confusion sets in, which for most people makes it all but impossible to find your way out.
I know this is a dumb question but what tf is a backroom?
a twilight zone / stephen king / the cube (movie) setting

This is genuinely terrifying
Lol
You get the feeling that you're lost, but you aren't willing to admit that yet.
You just have to go back around that corner, the way you came. But it isn't there anymore. It's just a dead end. You must have gotten turned around.
Surely if you follow the exit signs you'll find a way out.
Yo chill
I don't know why but your post made me remember a dream I sometimes have while sleeping.
It's about a big iron slide door in my basement. You go in and it's pitch black in there and the floor and walls have many cracks and bumps like those caused by roots of a tree. It's actually a maze and you can't get out. No matter where you go it gets narrower and narrower (even if you go back where you came from). Eventually it gets so narrow that you can't move at all and you fighting against the walls causes the very same cracks on the other other side of the walls.
The problem is, the exits only seem to lead you deeper into whatever this place is. You pass through a door that looks like a way out, only to find it firmly shut behind you. You have no choice but to keep moving and hoping you find an exterior door, or someone that can help you. You haven't seen another person for about ten minutes, and you don't understand how you've gotten here. You could have sworn you were in an office building.
Thanks for the thread OP. When did this become a thing? I'd never heard of it before, but it feels like classic /x/ stuff.
It has caught on if it made it here, this was originally on /x/, and before that it was just an image in an /x/ cursed image thread. But yeah I agree with the sentiment.
>a dream I sometimes have while sleeping
As opposed to one of those non-sleeping dreams?
The further you go, the worse things get. The air is thick with dust and mildew. The paint is cracked, wallpaper peeling, the cielings are caving in. But somehow, the lights are still on.
,, I have a dream"
quit you autistic faggot
What’s the monster in the backrooms? Or is it just complete nothingness?
The best thing you can do for yourself the moment you notice things are a bit weird and waaay too quiet is check and see if you have cell signal. Assuming you had decent signal before, if it has suddenly dropped, you need to stop and backtrack S L O W L Y
iime and distances can get a bit fiddly.
THIS ONE
THJS PIC IS A SOLID ANXIETY INDUCING TERROR
You come across room after room. Some of them are impossibly large, there's no way they could fit side by side. But each door, each bend in the hallway seems to lead to a new place. Each older than the last.
Sometimes you think you see the outside, or a flash of movement beyond one of the doors. But when you open them fully it's just another empty room.
The place is completely silent, except for the sound of water dripping in the distance.
The contents of the rooms no longer make sense. You find piles of boxes, stacks of random objects. Nothing useful, just a bunch of supplies or furnishings. Some rooms are empty. Some have piles of old broken down equipment. Some are dark, and you can't find any way to turn on the lights without going too deep inside of them.

sometimes, after waking up, I feel being in the wrong world. my conscience swappend during sleep with another me from a close by alternate timeline/dimension. things not drasticly different but only small things changed. small items or furnitures which are not at the right place and sometimes people behave differently. they can't remember things I said the day before or telling me things I never done. just tiny dimensional jumps during sleep. who knows, maybe my brain waves quantum breaks through reality barriers
We live in a simulation. If you've been to the backrooms, you understand this better than others.
One of the dark rooms has a seemingly endless pile of desks. The sight momentarily snaps you out of your trance, and you think about resting here. You hear faint noises from the back of the room, but you can't tell if they are just the echoes of your own footsteps, or something else.
Reminds me of this segment from this old Yellow Magic Orchestra video.

People getting bored.
We don't know
Care to find out? Please report back
Goodbye now
You don't know how much time has passed when you stop and lay on these dusty pillows. You've walked pretty far, but you can still hear the water dripping around you, and it's louder now. Sometimes you think you hear whistling or humming in between the drips, but by the time you've stopped moving to listen closely, it's gone.
Your break is interrupted when the Tvs silently come to life, displaying the classic static pattern. You jump up and quickly move back to the hallway, though you can't help but notice that all of the TVs are blank as you leave.
This reminds me a lot of a concept I had for a videogame. It would initially seem like another kind of game, but the player could find themselves shifting into these empty prefab levels within and between places, usually underground. It would seem like a glitch, but it's secretly the focus of the game. That sort of gimmick is a bit played out, but I couldn't help but find the approach interesting nonetheless, especially if it's integrated in a unique way.
Anyway, the first post is actually a lot how I imagined it. Yellow or beige walls, fluorescent lights, carpet, just endless hallways and rooms, that sometimes lead to other kinds of places that can look like stripped down versions of real places with different layouts. Exploring these places gradually causes the characters within to realize something is very wrong with their reality, perhaps even slowly understand that they are characters in a video game, looking at unfinished and scrapped levels, where the mysterious creators place things deleted from the world.
Maybe you're a detective doing detective game things, and then someone tries to reach out about their missing child who they seem to remember but no one else does. You just think she's crazy, but eventually you realize that her child was deleted, and is somewhere down there. In computers, deleted files are not totally destroyed, just placed away from everything else and marked as re-writable, causing the files to become more and more corrupted over time. In the same way people deleted from existence wind up trapped in the maze of broken levels, slowly twisting and deforming as their files are rewritten. Their movement can become twitchy and stuttering, or even find themselves merging into the wall of the place and becoming part of it. An entity who's been there for a very long time might just be found as a mass of pulsing flesh mixed with the wallpaper. Newer ones, well, you may hear their eerily human wailing in the distance.
So it's not a reference to anything in particular?
This is fucking weird. Why do I feel like I've been in these places before. It's always been something that is recurring in dreams that I'm in an abandoned place, one that doesn't really make sense or fit in reality.
Would love to explore a place like this IRL. Something about it is very interesting.
The dripping is louder. The walls are covered in filth, everything is rotting. You can tell that nobody has been to this place in many years, yet you still feel as if you aren't alone.
There's a sound like a distant rushing wind, but the air is undisturbed except by your breath. You cover your mouth with your shirt in an attempt to block some of the mold and dust from entering.
i think its because theyre largely similar generic liminal spaces.
There's a video on YouTube
Are you familiar with Hektor?
You are always lost/can't get lost in a really creepy seamless way where you can never quite get away from the room you left and never quite get to the room you want to.
When I watched someone's playthrough, at first I thought 'oh, it takes over navigation for you when you wander too long'.
Then, shit got weird.
I hadn't heard of it, but thanks for mentioning it to me. Seems interesting, I'll check it out.
Your instincts take over, and you try to turn back out of disgust, but you can't. Anytime you change course the sound of the wind becomes deafening and fills the space around you. Your feet feel impossibly heavy, and you are forced to contiue forward. You attempt to leave the doors behind you open, but something always closed them for you.
Even for creepy pasta this is fucking retarded
There is a pretty cool manga about this kind of thing
Hyakuman-jou Labyrinth
Is there a way to achieve this? I don't usually care for superstitious stuff, but this gives me a certain feeling. Like belonging, for lack of a better word.
I want to get lost alone. In a place far from people, where people should be.
Just another impossible dream that'll make me hate life more?
You keep trying rooms even though none of them seem to lead anywhere. You are afraid to even look behind you now. It feels like something is watching you. You can't even identify the contents of some of the rooms anymore. After this one you stop loking into them for awhile.
It's hard to get into places that normally should be full of people but are currently empty. Generally means that it's abandoned or closed, and often it involves breaking the law a little to be there.
Guess your best option is getting into urban exploration.
Checked.
So basically, just breaking into empty places? That seems easy. The risk is hardly even a ticket.
There's an old abandoned missile silo not too far from here. Might check it out. Not a mall or hotel, but a start. Thank you, user.
I think this is from a short story.
someone remembers the short story from Lee Harding called Displaced Person? Was a chilling story about a boy who got forgotten, people started to ignore him and the world lost all the colors while he slipped into the grey dimension in between. he could only use and eat things people forgot. like a package of chips far behind in the depth of a supermarket shelf.
Fiesta mall
yeah there's this guy on youtube who did a series on dead malls. i never watched it but i saved the playlist so i'd go back and do it some time.
i like the dead mall aesthetic.
I would just start smashing walls.
i would just start smashing your mom's walls

Physical property of the rooms start warping. Walls running into other walls at random, floors and cielings at odd angles.
A pile of sand spills out of nowhere into this one.
Light seems to stream through the windows, but when you look through them there is no outside. Only more rooms, more flourescent lights.
So basically a remastered LSD dream emulator?
You just gave me the chills I haven’t felt in a long time... that’s my nightmare right there.
it would be cool to have your office in one of these empty shithole malls. like, you just operate your house-painting business out of a gutted abercrombie inside a mall.
Fuuuuuuuuuuccccckkkkkk
How did I get here? What is this place?
This thread is incredible.
My fucking hair has been standing up and shivers are running through my entire body.
Well done OP
I was just taking the shortcut through the woods to get home, I've done it a million times before, how did I end up here?
do you guys know anything about urban exploration? like, going into closed down locations and shit?
I'd like to do that, but I don't really know how to recognize what would be a good place to go poke around in. at college, there were a few old closed down buildings that you could get into, but i'm sure there are loads of old commercial and industrial buildings that people have just abandoned.
The golden rules of backrooms/real state

Has anyone been here I don't feel like I am lost. I feel like I am supposed to keep moving, I know the way out isn't that far.
based taste
Everything feels so...strange...
I'm on acid right now and this is the best thread ever
thank u for these :>
im not op but i did the writing so ill take this fine compliment sir
all the images i posted except one were taken by me. the easiest way is to just drive around and happen upon cool buildings, but what i do to find the good stuff is a combination of satellite and streetview, crawl through each piece of the city looking for stuff thats obviously abandoned. you can tell from satellite where the cool sites are. it does depend on where you live though. my old city had ~10,000 of these and my new one doesn't really have any.
I love stuff like this. I fucked in the back area of a mall once and it was creepy that in certain areas I could actually see people walking around from the second floor I was on.
There's a fantastic youtube series called the dead mall series. It has people in it but it's still oddly fascinating.
Also, I live in vegas sort of near a circuit city that is still standing but obviously abandoned. I should break into it and film before I leave.
I used to fuck this high school chick and her room had a view like this. I always thought it was fucking awesome.
I love this thread
It's not really a thing. OP is just talking shit while posting dead places of business which are mildly unsettling to see since we're used to seeing so many people.
It's really because you don't know what's in it so there's a fear but at the same time the buildings are so mundane. It's an odd contrast that creates an almost boring yet still interesting sense of wanting to explore.
fuck this looks like my uni
Stop calling it uni. It sounds so faggy.
Working on the achievement where i don't play it for 5 years. No problem on that, probably won't remember i have it to get the achievement lmao
You are aware that vernacular differs from country to country.
Exactly dumbass. Go smoke a fag.
That would be a hate crime.
This reeks of backroom
Just saying you can't really apply your standards to the way people from another country talk. You have your normal, we have ours. For instance, I think Americans sound like dumbasses, children in adult bodies. But that's just their normal I guess, so I leave em alone.
Shit like this get me
damn i never really thought of it like that but we kinda do sound like children in adult bodies, i have a pretty deep voice but yeah a lot do lol wow
Sorta reminds me of The Stanley Parable
Sometimes a backroom doesn't have to be yellow beige hotel hallways. They can be literally anything that is usually populated but at the moment you're in it, is completely empty. I once encounter a backroom at a movie theater, where I wandered around the main area of the theater with absolutely no one in site. Fucking creepiest thing I've ever experienced
yeah i'm partially worried that the city i live in doesn't have a ton of empty buildings. maybe in like.. the ghetto.. but i don't really want to explore that.
do old, small towns have better prospects than more active bigger cities? And by towns I mean like, 100,000 people. And by cities like 500,000 people or so.
>You have your normal, we have ours
I never once disputed that. Saying uni still sounds faggy.
LoL that's like silent hill
Gentlemen, please. Can't we just concede that you both type and likely sound like fags?
go to chernobyl
closest thing to it.
also, you can become a mall guard and take night shifts.
My father has an art gallery in a mall. A few years ago i was helping him close down for the day. Stayed a bit longer bcs I had to do something on the computer. It was approaching midnight and the mall was completely empty, most of the lights turned off, leaving only dim light of technical ones. I wrapped everything up and had to make to the exit from the 3rd floor. Customer elevators were turned off so i figured to go to the staff area and go through there. Restricted corridors are like half the size of the area available to the customers but they are a maze of some technical rooms, workshops, and shit. Didn't have to go through much of it, bcs elevators are near the entrance on each floor.
>also, you can become a mall guard and take night shifts
I'm a security guard and I once was in this giant warehouse at night and almost got lost, thats why this thread gives me a special kind of feel
I got to the technical elevator shaft, a beast of a thing, you could probably park a car there, pressed one of two zero buttons and went down.
The door on the opposite side of the one i went through opened and I went ahead without giving it much thought.
Long story short i got lost in the technical corridors but managed to find a staircase and get out from there through -1.
It was cash. like pretty similar experience to what the op's describing.
also a small edit:
I once was in a mall at night too because they had to turn the alarm system off for a week because it got replaced and the TV commercials there looped the whole night
How can I access the backrooms when I'm crippled and can't get a ride anywhere so I'm forced to stay at home? Is there any way to just open a door, get on the floor and boom, you're in the backrooms? Or is there no way to manually get there? Do you wake up there one random morning or do you just blink while standing in a crowded room and you're there? Man, that would be fucked. Hey, are the backrooms even handicap accessible?
overdose on ambien or something
YepNiche shite
Its not really the size of the city, but how active the local government is in clearing and developing dead stuff. But >500k are more likely to have factories, hospitals and stuff.
Rural areas have things like old government facilities, theme parks, asylums.
Never really had a problem in the ghetto, i basically lived in one, but the more isolated obviously the better.
Dub dubz czech'd
Silent Hill.
If you get there, be sure to post pics. Abandoned silo could be cool as hell.
Keep this thread up, i have a few really cool places in my city, but first i need to finish some final exams.
Also should write a book. Really cool way to narrate these photos.
I just realized I went to the backrooms on Salvia. I was in a circus tent like structure, but there were no entrances or exits, the whole place had a dreary poorly lit feeling to it that the pics in this thread are reminding me of.
hey guys. desaturated photos of warehouses and abandoned factories. whoooaaaaaa
On days like this I also often experience dejavu. And oftentimes when I do, it's while driving or doing something potentially dangerous. Suddenly I'm super aware of my surroundings and very vigilant like my spider sense is tingling. Did I just space out and die in a car crash in another world? Glad I got a second chance.
what if a mall, but it's night time so there's no people at the mall. also burger king is closed
