Hey, I like climbing rocks too, but I generally do the routes with ropes rather than bouldering. Where do you climb?
Hardest I've done is a 5.10- (according to the ranking at my local rock gym). I don't recall the V score on the toughest boulder problem I've done.
Im over at Phoenix rock gym, and hell yeah!!! My highest is 5.11
I swear climbing is more addictive than crack
How cute are the girls at your gym?
I forgot to say congrats user. Ok back to sleep
hella
gn my son, sleep tight
It's pretty fucking fun. Did you climb trees when you were younger?
I'm in the new-england area, Central Rock Gyms have been opening up like crazy around here.
Have you done any outdoors climbing? or lead climbing?
I've been meaning to try it out, the gym that I wanted to go to is called Project Rock.
Anyone ever been there?
some gems, lots of basic bitches though
yeah all the time, went to this gym when i was little too but just getting back into it. Yeah its getting more and more popular here too. And just scrambling and caving but not real climbing. Not yet but im gonna get lead certified in July.
How about you? how'd you getstarted and do you lead climb?
go try it, even if its just for a day.
And sorry other side of the country but doesnt look too bad from the website
Started climbing an bouldering last month as well. You rock user.
I've been there before! I remember it being gigantic but I was also very young and small.
Thanks man
Hang in there!!
Closest location to me looks like this. The whole middle section is for lead climbing. It's got a pretty mean slope to it, you can tell from where the routes end, vs how far back into that 'cave' area they start (also no top ropes for those).
I've gone outdoors about 10-12 times. I really recommend it, it's so different than indoors. Just be safe, I've seen some people set up topropes on some pretty janky stuff...
I did the lead climbing class and got certified, but I hate the sensation of falling. They made us practice big falls by purposefully failing to clip at the next quickdraw, and when I dropped 20+ ft and pulled my girlfriend 8 ft up the wall I was done, never did it again.
Got into it when I saw a groupon for the gym. Always loved climbing trees, thought it looked fun, wasn't disappointed.
Do you have a group of friends you go with, or are you more into having solitude?
I buy old watches from 1950 -1970.. disassemble, clean and oil them then reassemble. It's a wonder what they can fit into those little basterds
oh that looks lit af. Heres my gym, lead climb section is off screen to the left.
Yeah im super excited to start climbing outdoors, have friends who have been going almost their whole lives so im gonnaa wait and go with them.
I have a group of friends I go with a fair amount but I also go by myself and usually just boulder when I do, also everyone is extremely friendly so ive made a few friends
Yeah I watched a friend of mine do a 5.10+ lead climb today and it was pretty spooky watching her take rope and clip in
I bet. What's the coolest watch you've taken apart?
Maybe I'll try lead again in the future. I got a few work friends into climbing and some of them do lead now and are getting pretty experienced. The drop I took was made worse because my GF was just learning then too and she's also about 50 lbs lighter than me.
nice man! and yeah weight seems like it would make a big difference. Has climbing toughened up your hands? Mine went from softer than a baby's ass to pretty beat up. Im super happy about it though cause i was always embarrassed shaking hands with my soft hands
Like a lot of people I like to go down to the beach and suck the farts out of dead seagulls.
sounds like a good friday night
theres a few of these near me and ive really been considering joining them. but it seems so expensive, and only worth it if i buy the gear so i dont have to rent every time.
also i have to go to a belaying class and the whole thing seems like a huge investment.
also a little intimidated. my core strength could be better
NAh, you have to get there early morning otherwise other people have already consumed all the best gas.
belaying is super easy so dont worry about that, an employee taught my friend in 5 minutes, definitely buy shoes and a harness, get used shoes and new harness to save money but stay safe, and most yearly or quarterly memberships arent too bad, just dont buy short term ones
thanks for the advice.
is it reasonable to think i can use an auto-belay most of the time? i just moved to this city so i literally know nobody to belay for me
shit that sucks, have you tried leaving beans out for them?
I wouldnt count on it, just talk to some people and ask if yu can belay them, at least where i am everyone is suuuper friendly and will belay you afterwards
If you like bouldering try Black Rock or Focus too. PRG is good, but i prefer those gyms.
Ill check em out, where are they?
working out with an audience of some stranger doesnt sound too appealing lol, but fuck it ill give it a try sometime
shooting firearms like a real man
As long as your friendly theyll try to help and encourage you in my experience. Maybe youll meet some friends or a date too?
nice man, what do you rate the new piece i just bought?
awesome 10/10
water polo. futbol in the water with wrestling.
I have several that I do often.
My longest running would be surfing, 20ish years. I live near a lot of good surf spots and own all the gear I need so the only expense is gas money and occasionally parking money.
Its great exercise, a lot of fun, and also a type of meditation for me.
There are times when the waves go completely flat. That is when I go out freediving/spearfishing. It is extremely challenging and which makes it that much more fun. If you are successful, you also get a meal out of it at the end. In addition to hunting fish, I also go for lobster, scallops, or any other edible creature that is legal to take. I always have a great time, even if I dont take any fish. A failed spearfishing trip is a successful dive trip. It is a beautiful and blissful experience.
North Phx area and Mesa/Tempe
My newest hobby is archery. It is a lot of fun and is challenging as well. I am about 6 mo in and have been seeing significant improvement. The end goal is to incorporate bow hunting into my hiking/backpacking trips. I am looking to hunt turkey, boar, deer and elk. I plan to start hunting when I can shoot accurately and consistently at 50 meters. I am comfortable at 30m now and working at dialing in at 40 and 50m
Wanted to go there for a full day with a buddy so we can try top roping, after that go bouldering on a regular basis because the gym gets stale and depressing.
