I'm strongly considering going to Germany next year (particularly Berlin), but out of curiosity I looked up flights to Stockholm and Copenhagen from New York, and they're both slightly shorter and considerably cheaper. The latter fact surprised me.
I'm a 24 year old straight male from New York and I prefer warm weather, but I assume that everywhere will be warm enough (even if not hot) in the summer. I love eating and drinking. I'm assuming the nightlife hierarchy in this case is Berlin>Copenhagen>>>Stockholm, but I could be wrong about that. Even though the flights to the Scandinavian countries are cheaper, would I be correct in assuming that the savings would be eaten up by higher cost of doing things in Scandinavia as opposed to Germany? I looked on Expedia and saw some 1 week flight and hotel packages for 800-900 USD per person in both Berlin, Hamburg, and Copenhagen, does that seem to good to be true?
Dunno about the nightlife in Denmark or Copenhagen. Berlin has whatever kind of bar/club you want. Again, dunno about costs, but most things in the Euro area should be kind of similar? A little more than in the US on average... maybe about the same as they are in NYC, LA, etc.
800-900 for a flight and hotel a year from now isn't unreasonable. Make sure it's not on one of the airlines where everything is extra (checked bags, food, etc). As a comparison, price a coach-class flight on either Lufthansa or Delta from NY to your target city on around the same dates - that's what a "premium" flight alone costs.
Also, look up where the hotel is, vs. where all the clubs and whatever are in the city. Sometimes the cheap hotels are way out in the suburbs. If the hotel is a little ways out, but on the bus or subway line, then that's pretty good; usually a transit pass isn't that expensive, and they sometimes have cheap deals for tourists that make it even better.
Note that the subways often stop running late at night, like from midnight to 6 AM, or 2 AM to 6 AM, or whatever. There will usually be a bus that runs all night that makes most of the same stops, and usually the same pass works on the bus or the subway. The transit operators in most big German cities have reasonably good English webpages that explain the fares, passes, map, etc.

>Even though the flights to the Scandinavian countries are cheaper, would I be correct in assuming that the savings would be eaten up by higher cost of doing things in Scandinavia as opposed to Germany? Yes t.swede
Easton Hall
When travelling, I do always make sure to stay in or near a happening neighborhood.
Xavier Richardson
>I'm assuming the nightlife hierarchy in this case is Berlin>Copenhagen>>>Stockholm, but I could be wrong about that. You are wrong. Limiting to eating and drinking it is Berlin>>Stockholm>Copenhagen. Only if you expand into whores, drugs and/or people being social it is Berlin>>>Copenhagen>>>>>Stockholm. >Even though the flights to the Scandinavian countries are cheaper, would I be correct in assuming that the savings would be eaten up by higher cost of doing things in Scandinavia as opposed to Germany? Hahahahh YES. >I looked on Expedia and saw some 1 week flight and hotel packages for 800-900 USD per person in both Berlin, Hamburg, and Copenhagen, does that seem to good to be true? A plane is a plane and so check up on the hotel on some other website. If it seems ok then go for it.
Nolan Reyes
I guess what I should really be asking if you guys think 900 for that is too much.
Ayden Rodriguez
For one week? No. It's almost too little, but then again you book a year in advance. As I said check up on the hotel to make sure it's not crap.
Kayden Hill
Fuck it user go to Warsaw or Cracow. You will get everything as in Berlin, Copenhagen or Stockholm but for fraction of the price and without third world sandniggers everywhere. Also Polish bitches are pretty and easy especially when you are foreigner.
Luis Martin
Hello pole I think you have never visited Berlin, Copenhagen or Stockholm.
Kevin Cook
Do Polish people speak English as good?
And can you drink on the street in Poland?
Sebastian Walker
Well, the hotel would be split between 4 people so that's probably why it looks kind of low
Joseph Hernandez
>I'm strongly considering going to Germany Why would you go to the middle east?
Elijah Rogers
Which girls have better buttholes, German, Danish, or Swedish?
Gavin Price
Yes I have been in Berlin and Stockholm but not yet in Copenhagen. I currently live in Belgium and it's turning to the fucking middle east like the above. Also amount of bums in Berlin is staggering.
Jason Ramirez
In places like Warsaw and Cracow there is no problem with communicating in English.
Leo Allen
Bring at least 2 firearms if you're planning on coming out alive.
You can't drink on the streets and there are smokers areas in the clubs
Nolan Wright
are the cops strict about drinking in public, or is it de facto not enforced?
Jack Kelly
It is enforced but when you are a foreigner they won't be that strict. So probably you won't get a ticket
Christian Phillips
Lol yeah definitely set yourself up for police interaction in fucking Poland. You can drink anywhere whenever in Berlin.
Henry Morales
No One Gives A Fuck
Hudson Reed
I think you can drink in public in most of Europe, even England
Owen Cruz
>saw some 1 week flight and hotel packages for 800-900 USD
-check hotel location, cheaper ones are usually far away from city centers -check airport location. cheaper airlines many times drop you at the farthest airport -check transfer costs from airport to hotel
these things can kill your budget easily
for food just eat at fast food restaurants, like mcdonalds, etc
Asher King
Fully retard advice. McDonald's is expensive in Europe compared to like anything eurobased.
Jaxon Martinez
well the search was based on airport to airport
Aiden Stewart
what I will actually do is skip breakfast and try to have at least one meal a day off of sandwiches. Though, that will probably get boring and I'll be tempted to try local food
Joshua Long
> come all the way to Europe > eat McD Yeah that’s Muriccan allright
Henry Reed
>McDonald's is expensive
what a fucking idiot
Easton Brown
I'm American and I don't really like McDonalds (except for the occasional craving). But I was in France in 2007 and I remember there not being many lunch options besides crepes and ham sandwiches, after a week of that I went to a McDonald's and it was actually a nice change of pace.
Levi Ortiz
>McDonald's and it was actually a nice change of pace
I've had the same experience with McDonald's when travelling many times.
Christian Campbell
How much is a Big Mac Menü? How much is a bowl of dank curry or a massive falafel combo plate? Go to 5 guys in Europe. It'll be 50 American dollars for two people.
Hint: the maccas is twice the price.
Parker Ortiz
I think it depends where you are. If you're in an area where lunch is a one truck pony, fast food breaks up the monotony at least and European fast food places can be a little different anyway. I remember the Burger King in Spain having beer.
Maybe France has more diverse lunch options than I realized. I was only 12 and not exactly in the know.
Mason Collins
I don't remember food in France, Spain, or Ireland being that expensive. I would expect the fast food to be a little more expensive than American McDonald's of course.
Cameron Gonzalez
Hey u can get a whole pizza and a soda for six dollars or I can get a meal at mcfuckindonalds for eleven. Definitely go to mcdonalds to save money
Christopher Cruz
Have you considered that maybe Europeans would know better than you?
Wyatt Jenkins
when did I say otherwise, you arrogant faggot?
Jace Collins
Go eat at McDonald's. It's doing your brains a lot of favors.
Carson Richardson
I don't know who told this user, but its not true. I live in europe btw.
Here is a quick comparison taken of google:
Switzerland ($6.54) Sweden ($5.83) United States ($5.51) Norway ($5.22) Canada ($5.07)
According to the site these are the top 5 most expensive countries for macdonals.
Cooper Fisher
If your looking for nightlife Germany is better as you can actually pay to get drunk Berlin is a shit city full of shit people tho
Henry Howard
I'm not defending eating at McDonald's you retard. Have you had too many Carlsbergs today?
Jeremiah Hill
Lol a big mac meal anywhere in Berlin is like 8.50 euro. Which is almost ten dollars you mongoloid.
Matthew Cook
danish man here. everything you said is correct
Robert Sanchez
what about the last part?
Jaxon Anderson
it costs almost that much in the US.
Charles Campbell
Ok yes that is correct. now check it out.
OTHER ACTUALLY GOOD FOOD IS HALF THE PRICE
Get it? You can eat at a sit down restaurant for LESS. Does this make sense yet?
Easton James
itt the dumbest yankees
Justin Murphy
yes but I never argued otherwise so I don't know what you're arguing about. Jap Moot really needs to bring back IDs calm down, Hans
Joshua Anderson
how different are Germany and Austria?
Elijah Lopez
A menu there is more like €7.50 i think, which is about $8.5. So its practically the same as New York prices.
Anyway, if you think that's expensive then what can i say? I'm sorry you're so poor?
Connor Clark
Go to the fucking supermarket and try local food.
Blake Lopez
no shit. I have to buy coldcuts or premade food though, because I don't feel like actually cooking and I doubt my hotel would have a stove
>savings would be eaten up by higher cost of doing things in Scandinavia as opposed to Germany Yesss
Source: im scandinavian, we travel to germany because its cheap
Ryder Taylor
what are your favorite things to do in Germany?
Zachary Lopez
As I said in the previous thread you made a couple of days ago
Go to smaller Dutch cities like Groningen
It has a much better nightlife than any city I've ever been to
And weed.
Cameron Lewis
DK and SE are maybe 10-20% more expensive in general compared to Berlin
Jace Jones
Flights from/to the US can cost as little as 400-500 dollars in my experience. As a person living in CPH now and the past 10 years I can recommend it’s nightlife scene.. Berlin is supposedly better in this aspect though. Dining wise Copenhagen outranks anything on your list.
Landon Butler
except for drinks, it seems like they're a lot cheaper in Berlin
Jace Johnson
Nightlife hierarchy Berlin>>Copenhagen>>Stockholm
Expensiveness Copenhagen>Stockholm>>Berlin (worth noting that USD is worth a lot in SEK and DKK atm, especially SEK)
City beautifulness Stockholm>Copenhagen>>>Berlin (unless you hate water and love graffiti)
People beautifulness Stockholm>Copenhagen>>>Berlin
Drugs and Girls easy to buy Berlin>>Copenhagen>>Stockholm
I am scandinavian and I traveled through Europe by train a couple months ago, and i know these cities well.
Luke Martin
Germanfaq here. Berlin is expensive as Fuck. Go to Hamburg and check out the Reeperbahn. Serious Talk..
Hamburg isn' t the cheapest place in the word neither but compared to Berlin it is definitiv cheaper.
Scandaniavia is great too, but alcohol is unbelievable expensive.
Thomas Ramirez
do Swedish girls have nice buttholes?
Anthony Kelly
>alcohol is unbelievably expensive Which is part of why I'm leaning towards Germany. I drink a lot on vacation so I'd save a lot of money.
Jordan Morales
Trust me. Go and see Hamburg and thank me later.
3 Friends from the us game to visit me 13 years ago. I brought Thema to Reeperbahn and they came back ever dead since then. One of the actually moved over here...
Kayden Richardson
yea my girl's got a naturally bald asshole. very nice
Jacob Reyes
is it big and brown? what does it smell like?
Jose Jackson
like ass
Levi Sanchez
i thought hamburg was more of a harbour, full of shipping containers?
almost everything i import comes through hamburg
Jason Gray
Dude, Hamburg is a City with a population around 5million. Yeah, they have a Big harbour, but thats just like 15% of Hamburg.
Just Google up Reeperbahn, Große Freiheit Hamburg, Schanzenviertel, Schulterblatt, Stadtpark Hamburg, Millerntor and Landungsbrücken. Hamburg is awesome...not kidding.
Lucas Rodriguez
Seems alright. Especially in the summer.
Apart from Hamburg which do you think are the best cities to visit in Germany?
In terms of stunning views, old architecture and unique/interesting places to see.
Christopher Peterson
Well I prefer te North of Germany because I like the Sea better then mountains.
There is Luebeck. The City where I was born. Very old an great architeture.
Bremen - old City with interessting history.
Flensburg. Bordertown to Denmark in with a awesome coastline.
Those are my favourites in the north
Landon Mitchell
That would be Bremen for me then, since I have cheap ryanair fights from my home city.
Many thanks user.
Aaron Peterson
Are you gonna keep spamming this assholian thread until next year when you finally go?
Leo Hughes
You are welcome. Enjoy your stay. I am sure you'll like it.
And make sure you try Currywurst mit Pommes Rot-weiß and a fischbrötchen.
